Man travels 500 miles to meet beauty queen and 'future wife' - before discovering sad truth
A lovestruck man was left dumbfounded after a 500-mile journey to meet a beauty queen ended in the discovery that he had been catfished.
Michel, a 76 year old from Belgium, believed he was on his way to meet his ' soulmate ', the renowned model Sophie Vouzeland. However, upon arriving at her residence in Saint-Julien, France, he was met by her husband, Fabien, instead.
The smitten senior announced himself as her " future husband", only to be shocked when the man at the door said: "Well, I'm the current one."
Michel had been under the impression that he was communicating with the 2007 Miss France runner-up via WhatsApp.
Convinced of their bond, Michel had even transferred a whopping £25,000 as a loan to someone he thought was Sophie, reports the Mirror.
The couple took to social media to share a poignant video of their encounter with Michel, hoping to raise awareness about romance fraud. In the footage, a disheartened Michel admits: "I think she played a dirty trick on me. I am an imbecile."
He proceeded to show Fabien the messages they had exchanged. "My wife, no, it's the fake accounts," Fabien clarified. "You have to be very careful."
The video was uploaded to Instagram with a caption expressing sympathy for Michel: "I feel so sorry for this man. Watch out for fake accounts. I'm sharing this video to show you it's real and to be vigilant! Take care of yourself."
Sophie, who is expecting a baby with Fabien, expressed that the incident "hurts my heart". The scam has since sparked reactions on social media, with users finding it alarming that their address was known.
One individual warned: "Let us all be vigilant! Fake accounts and scams suck."
Another sympathised: "Poor Sophie in the middle of this being pregnant. Fingers crossed this doesn't happen again and ends well. Cheer up to both of you."
Grateful for the support, Sophie replied in the comments: "Thank you, it's not easy."
A third shared their astonishment: "Oh crazy what a story! Poor gentleman. It's horrible to know that there are still people scamming people. I hope it won't happen again and that you can live your life peacefully."
One more person highlighted the risks of online exposure: "The danger of social networks. But I'm surprised how he could get your address. It's absolutely not normal."

British teen falls to death at Ibiza Rocks hotel two weeks after Scots tourist died
The 19-year-old fell from the third floor of the hotel in the Ibizan party resort of San Antonio. A teenage British holidaymaker has died after plunging from the third floor of a hotel in the Ibizan party resort of San Antonio. The tourist, who was 19, died instantly in the fall at the four-star Ibiza Rocks Hotel where a Scots holidaymaker lost his life just a fortnight ago. Two ambulances were sent to the scene but paramedics say there was nothing they could do to save him. The tragedy, which is being investigated by police, occurred just after midnight. The Civil Guard confirmed this morning he was a British national. The hotel where the latest tragedy has occurred is the same one where a Scots holidaymaker fell to his death on July 7. Evan Thomson, 26, from Aberdeen, was on holiday with pals celebrating his birthday. Paramedics were called to the scene but could do nothing to save him. His mum Lel Kellighan revealed the news on social media a few days after her son died, saying: 'I'm absolutely heartbroken to write and tell you all, earlier this week my son Evan was in a tragic accident whilst on holiday with his friends in Ibiza and sadly passed away. 'We are all absolutely broken. Please allow us some time.' In the days after Evan's death his loved ones raised questions about safety and blasted the hotel where he died over the way the situation was handled. Evan's sister Teila said: 'Ibiza is known for its partying and it just stuns me that they don't have higher safety precautions. 'Pray nobody else suffers. And, once it did happen, the hotel's response was just completely heartbreaking; almost as if it never happened. I pray no other family has to go through this." Friend Blair Robertson, 25, who had been with Evan before he died, said: 'Security took us away to front desk. Paramedics didn't arrive for about 30 minutes. Forensic officers didn't speak English. "We were just standing there, not knowing what was going on. Reception gave us false hope." Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community! Last Monday a 25-year-old British tourist died in hospital from injuries he sustained in a fall from a supermarket car park in San Antonio the previous day. He was rushed to an intensive care unit at a private island hospital following the incident. The Nuestra Senora del Rosario Polyclinic confirmed he had succumbed to his injuries, saying around midday last Monday: 'Regrettably and despite all the efforts of medical personnel, the patient who fell yesterday in San Antonio has died due to the severity of his injuries."

Viewers of the show could not believe what they were watching when Emma unveiled her masterplan to get her man. Later in the conversation, she added: 'We're stuck for life', while Harry confessed: 'I can't compare anyone to you,' before adding, 'Of course I love you, of course I always have love for you.' Emma and Harry were together for three years, but split after she claimed he cheated and brought other girls back to their home — something she revealed in explosive scenes during her return. Now, Yasmin's sister has shared her thoughts on them having a master plan. In a recent clip, someone said to Zara that Emma reminded them of Fiona from Netflix hit Baby Reindeer. Zara replied: 'This comment made me laugh. Feel free to disagree with me but I don't think Emma and Harry ended up on the same season of the same show was a coincidence. 'There's something weird going on between them and I can't figure out what their plan is but something is going on. This wasn't a coincidence.' She continued: 'Didn't Harry say he sent her flowers or something in February? There's something that doesn't match up. Love Island bombshell Yasmin slammed as 'game-player' as she throws villa into chaos by snogging Harry AND Dejon before row with the girls 'I don't know them personally but the fact she said she'd get back together with him at some point… I think with most people and their exes they think 'Ok that's done now.' 'But for Emma the door was still open so I really don't think it's a coincidence that they've ended up on the same show.' Casa bombshell Emma, who arrived on Day 27 in a shock twist, has been plotting to rekindle her romance with Harry — despite slating him in brutal Instagram DMs only a month earlier and knowing he's coupled up with Helena. And another of Emma's exes believes she's gone in there for one reason and one reason only - to get Harry back. The source told us: 'Her ex and everyone else don't think there's any other reason to go on that show apart from to get back with him. "That's been the plan the whole time, everyone is 99% sure it was planned.' The lad dating Emma called it quits after the Love Island line-up was revealed and she told him about Harry. In a string of cutting messages exchanged on Instagram, which have been seen by The Sun, Emma ripped into Harry's looks, calling him 'butters' and saying he had 'got so skinny since I haven't been feeding him.' 'She literally said he 'wouldn't stand a chance now' and told me she couldn't be bothered with the producers messaging her about going on the show,' the insider added. 'It was all very strange because she was asking for a serious relationship with this guy but at the same time she was talking about Harry and Love Island all the time.' They tell us she was initially very against the show and ruled out entering but in a dramatic u-turn that left fans shocked, she made a surprise entrance and then set her sights on him once again. 'She said she wanted to be the bigger person,' they told us, 'but now she's trying to win the whole thing with the same guy she was mocking.' 5 Yasmin's sister has shared her thoughts on them having a master plan Credit: zarasworld17/TikTok

Liam and Noel's epic gift to Manchester Gallagher Hill fans resold for huge amount
Oasis fans without a ticket have been gathering on Gallagher Hill at Manchester's Heaton Park to watch the Wonderwall stars on their incredible reunion tour Noel Gallagher's daughter has revealed the epic gift Oasis gave its fans at the band's final gig in Manchester last night. The Wonderwall stars brought the house down again at Heaton Park in their hometown after performing for five sold-out nights to an adoring crowd. Those not lucky enough to bag a ticket for the reunion have been gathering on the newly-named Gallagher Hill in the park to try and catch a glimpse of the gig. And last night, a thousand were given an exclusive Oasis t-shirt, branded with 'Gallagher Hill', which went down a storm with the fans as they soaked up the electric atmosphere. Revealing the unexpected gift on Instagram, Noel's daughter, Anais, shared a photo of two revellers proudly wearing their new shirts with the caption: "Giving out these on Gallagher Hill is [love emoji]. Now I just need a Gallagher Hill bracelet." Sisters Claire and Kerri Davis told the Manchester Evening news the were handed out by a man on a golf buggy. 'He just came and was handing them out, he looked official. He said 'they're from Liam but I've only got a thousand,'' they said. The sisters looked like they treasured the but didn't stop another eager opportunist from taking to eBay making the most of the shirt's exclusivity. In a listing that has popped up on selling site overnight, one fan is selling their Gallagher Hill t-shirt for an eye-watering £1026.68! The description reads: "Official Oasis Gallagher Hill T-shirt handed out to fans at last Manchester gig courtesy of Oasis." A source told The Sun that the Gallagher brothers wanted to thank the fans after Manchester City Council tried to to fence off the hill last week. Revealing that the band could only get 1,000 printed with such short notice, they said: 'Noel and Liam wanted to do something to honour their fans who'd been given a kick in the teeth from the council. 'Their fans had gathered on the hill to listen to the show if they didn't have tickets and those in a good position could get a sight of the screens until the council bores tried to stop the fun. 'Noel and Liam wanted to make a point to their fans who couldn't get tickets so had these T-shirts made especially for them." On Friday, Liam dedicated Definitely Maybe and Bring It Own Down to the crowds that had gathered on the mound despite the council's best efforts to shut it down. Oasis also screened Gallagher Hill as part of their final Heaton Park show - so everyone was involved in a triumphant final Manchester gig. Liam paid tribute to 'wonder kid' footballers Phil Foden and Ballon D'or winner Rodri, who was at Sunday's show. The screens then showed black and white footage of the fans on Gallagher Hill. Liam said: 'Right now it's Poznan time. And want you lot on the hill to be getting involved as well. 'Even if you are Manchester United fans, I've seen you up there. Jump up and down and stop sulking.' Noel then added: 'we're going live to Gallagher hill,' before he began the opening rift of Cigarettes and Alcohol and the Poznan began. Acknowledging the thousands of fans who gathered on the hill now named after him and his brother, Liam told the crowd: "I've been hearing there's loads of people over there behind some hill or something. Yeah I wanna dedicate this tune to them. "Right, so if you lot are listening on that f*****g hill, Bring It On Down" he said, before the band kicked in to the song of the same name from Definitely Maybe. Police have confirmed they made no arrests during the final night of Oasis' epic run of five dates in Manchester's Heaton Park, however video footage has now emerged of groups of fans clashing Camping chairs, loo roll and bottles were thrown as ticketless Oasis fans 'scrapped' on Gallagher Hill during the final gig at Heaton Park on Sunday (July 20). During the concert, witnesses claimed tensions escalated between groups of fans. who were involved in 'football chanting', reports the Manchester Evening News. There seemed to be clashes between Manchester City and Manchester United fans as well. " Football fans were chanting, camping chairs were thrown," one witness recalled, adding: "Then a scrap. Then bottles. One lad got punched in the face." They continued: "They were launching glass bottles at each other and then in the crowd. Loads of people seemed to leave where I was. It went on for about half an hour. [It was] horrible."
