Love Island USA's Cierra Ortega Loses Nearly 200K Instagram Followers For Using Anti-Asian Slur

Yahooa day ago
The glittering rise of Love Island USA contestant Cierra Ortega has come crashing down as fans abandon her en masse amid a growing racism scandal. In less than 48 hours, the 25-year-old influencer has hemorrhaged over 200,000 Instagram followers after a TikTok video and an old Instagram post resurfaced, both showing her casually using a racial slur against Asians.
At the peak of her reality TV stardom, Ortega seemed poised to cross the million-follower mark on Instagram. Now, she's teetering at 726,000 and plummeting fast.
But what exactly happened, and why is social media calling for her immediate removal from the villa?
The social media eruption began when a TikTok clip originally posted in June 2020 was dredged up by users who noticed its disturbing language. In the video, Cierra, then 20, is seen in a doctor's office undergoing cosmetic procedures. The initial caption appears harmless enough, standard influencer fare about Botox and facial expressiveness.
But buried in the middle of her caption, Cierra wrote:
'I can also be a little chubby when I laugh or smile, so I love getting a mini brow lift to open up my eyes and get that snatched look. This is not me encouraging, but more so sharing.'Then she added:'My smile's a little ch*nky.'
If that weren't damning enough, internet sleuths uncovered a 2015 Instagram post in which Ortega once again used the same slur, captioning a selfie:
'Still ch*nkin' at the top.'
The screenshots from both posts have gone viral, fueling fury across Twitter, TikTok, and Reddit. While some have attempted to excuse her words as 'self-deprecating,' others argue that the use of a known racial slur twice over multiple years reveals more than just poor judgment.
The backlash was immediate and merciless.
'Cierra racist, saying slurs, and overall a fake person. Please get her out of the villa immediately along with Austin, Ace and Zak,' tweeted one angry viewer.
'Cierra literally said a racial slur but no one gives a f**k and everyone is saying it's not offensive. Racism towards Asians will never be taken seriously,' wrote another.
A growing contingent of Love Island USA fans are now calling for Ortega to receive the 'Yulissa treatment', a reference to fellow Season 7 contestant Yulissa Escobar, who was abruptly removed from the show after old podcast clips surfaced of her using a racial slur.
Escobar's exit was swift and unceremonious. Narrator Iain Stirling briefly addressed her disappearance during Episode 2, saying only that she was 'no longer in the villa.' No explanation. No segment. Just gone.
Now fans want the same for Cierra.
'If we kicked someone else out for using racial slurs, why should she be treated any different?' one user posted. 'Her ass needs to get gone, I'm so serious.'
The scandal is also reigniting criticism of the show's producers, who have been accused of showing favoritism toward Ortega throughout the season. Viewers have pointed to edited footage, unbalanced screen time, and favorable pairings that suggest a narrative bias in her favor.
'Last thing… Cierra posted this TikTok ON HER OWN FREE WILL on 6.14.20 using the same slur she did in the IG story,' said one user. 'If the producers choose to ignore this, they're rigging and for what? To defend a racist?'
The backlash has now spilled beyond Love Island USA fandom and into broader conversations about anti-Asian racism in media and the selective enforcement of consequences.
Before the controversy erupted, Ortega was rapidly gaining followers thanks to her steamy villa flirtations and Instagram-perfect looks. At her peak, she boasted 921,000 followers. Now, she's lost nearly a quarter of her fanbase and counting.
Tracking tools show her losing thousands per hour as #CierraOut and #DumpCierra trend across social platforms.
Despite mounting calls for Ortega's removal, Love Island USA producers have yet to issue a statement or take visible action. As of July 3, Cierra remains in the villa, smiling in slow-motion montages and enjoying curated dates while the internet burns.
If producers thought the storm would pass, they may have miscalculated. Because if the show can eject Yulissa Escobar for one slur, what happens now that Cierra has been exposed using the same one twice?
In a post-#MeToo, post-#StopAsianHate reality TV landscape, audiences are less forgiving than ever. The demand is clear: equality in accountability.
Fans aren't just asking for justice, they're demanding it. And unless Love Island USA takes action, the show itself might suffer a loyalty loss of its own.
As one user put it best:
'I am so disgusted by the amount of people dismissing Cierra saying a literal slur against Asian people TWICE. Give her the Yulissa treatment immediately.'
The villa may be in paradise, but this scandal is anything but.

AC/DC Energize As ‘Power Up' Tour Continues

AC/DC perform on stage during the 'Power Up' tour. Saturday, May 24, 2025 at Soldier Field in ... More Chicago, IL 'Hello!' greeted singer Brian Johnson as AC/DC took to the stage in Chicago as the American leg of their 'Power Up' tour wound down. 'It's been too long. Where you been?' joked the singer, rejoining the band for this tour for the first time since 2016 (following a one off performance in 2023). 'We're gonna play some rock and roll so let's have a party!' A party atmosphere is indeed what AC/DC has created over the course of 17 albums spread across five decades. Their 1980 effort Back In Black, a tribute to original vocalist Bon Scott, remains the second best selling album in music history, part of a catalog that's sold in excess of 200 million records worldwide, rendering AC/DC one of the best selling groups ever. Brian Johnson (left) and Angus Young (right) perform on stage during AC/DC's 'Power Up' tour. ... More Saturday, May 24, 2025 at Soldier Field in Chicago, IL In 2016, Johnson left the band due to hearing issues, replaced for the remaining 22 shows of AC/DC's 'Rock or Bust' tour by Guns N' Roses vocalist Axl Rose, eventually returning for 2020's Power Up album, with the group finally taking to the road in support of it following the quarantine of pandemic via the 'Power Up" tour, an outing which resumes Tuesday, July 8, 2025 in Düsseldorf, Germany, before wrapping up this December in the group's home country of Australia. 'Chicago, we have officially hit my favorite part of the set, where the sun has gone down and the horns have gone up,' mused The Pretty Reckless singer and guitarist Taylor Momsen on stage at dusk inside Chicago's Soldier Field, clad in a Chicago Bears jersey. 'Get your hands in the air - every one of you!' she continued, setting up 'Going To Hell' late in the band's energetic 55 minute opening set. Momsen was referencing the group's patented red, light up devil horns, of which a quick look at the sold out crowd of nearly 62,000 indicated a staggering number of sales of the $25 souvenirs numbering easily in the thousands. Taylor Momsen performs on stage with The Pretty Reckless as the opening act for AC/DC. Saturday, May ... More 24, 2025 at Soldier Field in Chicago, IL Guitarist Angus Young marched straight down the runway from the stage set up in the football stadium's north end zone, stopping about the 10 yard line to rip his first solo of the evening as AC/DC revisited their momentous sixth studio album, the Mutt Lange-produced Highway To Hell, Scott's last. Johnson's vocal wasn't perfect as the group moved to 'Back In Black,' but it was good enough, with the vocalist, 77, smiling wide as he continued a well-deserved victory lap on stage in Chicago. Cool white lights bathed the crowd as black and white images of the band appeared on three massive screens, with Young skipping the megahit to conclusion. New bassist Chris Chaney (Jane's Addiction) chugged along, adding a backing vocal during 'Demon Fire' from the Power Up album. Stevie Young (left) and Angus Young (right) perform on stage with AC/DC during the 'Power Up' tour. ... More Saturday, May 24, 2025 at Soldier Field in Chicago, IL Power Up is AC/DC's first studio effort since the 2017 death of co-founding guitarist Malcolm Young, one of the best rhythm guitarists in rock history, who received a co-writing song credit on each of the album's dozen tracks. Rounding out the group on this run is Chaney and Malcolm's nephew Stevie Young on rhythm guitar alongside drummer Matt Laug, who steps in for Phil Rudd (who performed on the Power Up album). 'Alrighty, here we go,' said Johnson nonchalantly as the crowd began to simmer, fully aware of what was to come. From the group's 12th studio album The Razor's Edge in 1990, 'Thunderstruck' remains a showcase for Angus' still immense guitar playing prowess. Brian Johnson (left) and Angus Young (right) perform on stage with AC/DC during the 'Power Up' tour. ... More Saturday, May 24, 2025 at Soldier Field in Chicago, IL While the song's opening trademark riffage was a tad slow early, the band soon kicked in to drive the rollicking take on the number, with Angus, 70, jacket off now, pumping his right fist as he marched on stage. Stopping for a moment, the guitarist faced off with Johnson during a quick respite. 'I was shaking at the knees!' exclaimed the singer, kicking it back in. 'Thunderstruck' signaled the start of a murderer's row of AC/DC hits, with 'Have a Drink on Me' and 'Hells Bells' following. A giant bell bearing the iconic AC/DC logo descended from the stage as the unmistakable intro to 'Hells Bells' was struck, with Johnson pumping both fists in the air triumphantly as Laug began the legendary anthem. Angus Young performs on stage with AC/DC during the 'Power Up' tour. Saturday, May 24, 2025 at ... More Soldier Field in Chicago, IL No one does rock anthems better than AC/DC, with pyro flaring up beneath the massive video screen, soaring as the house lights went up, lighting up the ocean, as the band tore into 'Highway To Hell. Angus came running back from the b stage as the song neared its conclusion. 'Are you ready? Do it with us!' instructed Johnson, delivering the song's iconic close as the lead guitarist threw up the horns to the delight of the massive throng. Angus spastically shredded, racing up and down the fretboard as Chaney's bass drove a propulsive take on 'Sin City,' cupping his ear as he egged on the crowd. Chipping in on vocals, Angus joined Johnson during 'Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap,' tearing through a solo out of nowhere as the track wrapped. Brian Johnson performs on stage with AC/DC during the 'Power Up' tour. Saturday, May 24, 2025 at ... More Soldier Field in Chicago, IL While Rose dusted off 'Riff Raff' in 2016, a classic deep cut from the band's stellar Scott-fronted 1978 fifth record Powerage, Johnson took his first ever stab at it in 2023, with Stevie Young ripping away on rhythm as Angus rocked out in Chicago (the backing band was particularly crucial on the sped up, unrestrained effort). 'Knocking me out with those Chicago thighs,' sang Johnson with a wink, reworking the lyrics of 'You Shook me all Night Long' as AC/DC cruised toward the finish line in the Windy City - but not before a guitar solo for the ages. 'Let There be Rock' isn't exactly slow but on stage in Chicago, AC/DC managed to speed it up nevertheless, with Young taking his tie off as he began a guitar solo that would ultimately clock in excess of a whopping 20 minutes. Angus Young performs on stage with AC/DC during the 'Power Up' tour. Saturday, May 24, 2025 at ... More Soldier Field in Chicago, IL At the four minute mark, Young stepped onto a hydraulic lift, soaring into the air. Two minutes later, he laid down on the runway as confetti soared. At around 14 minutes, the song itself ended and the band departed - but Angus refused to stop, moving to an upper tier of the stage above the drumkit for the first time as he laid waste to his axe. The crowd was right there with him as the band returned, with Angus taking a bow a staggering 22 minutes after 'Let There be Rock' actually began. The crowd pumped their fists in unison to the 'Oi's!' as AC/DC kicked off encore with 'TNT.' A 12 gun salute rang out across Soldier Field, with a dozen functioning cannons firing in real time as the song progressed. Fireworks soon soared overhead as the group closed up a two hour and 15 minute performance with arguably the ultimate AC/DC anthem in 'For Those About to Rock (We Salute You).' 'Thank you, Chicago,' said Johnson, taking stock of the immense AC/DC audience. 'You've been brilliant.'

This Washington-Distilled Rye Has Flavor Well Beyond Its Age

Woodinville Rye Aged 8 Years Among American whiskey fans, Woodinville Whiskey Co. has gradually made a name for itself with reliable bourbon and rye. Perhaps even more standout are the brand's forays into cask finishing. While other producers often use secondary maturation to differentiate sourced whiskey, Woodinville has shown a penchant for experimenting with its own distillate, utilizing port, tequila, and a variety of other casks to push flavors. But Woodinville's most noteworthy whiskey this year—at least so far—doesn't lean into cask finishing at all. Instead, it's the brand's oldest-ver rye whiskey, and eight year-old that, depending on personal flavor preferences, might just border on stunner. On June 7th, the Moët Hennessy-owned distillery officially released Woodinville 100% Rye Aged 8 Years. The grain for this 100% rye recipe—meaning it contains no other grains, a relatively uncommon practice for American rye whiskey—comes from a family farm in Quincy, Washington. The train is transported to Woodinville for mashing, fermentation, and distillation. It's then trucked back to Quincy for maturation. That aging environment has done a number on this rye, and even proofed to a relatively normal 50% ABV, the color is incredibly dark, like a deep, unfiltered molasses. The nose is big on fruitcake, brandy-soaked raisins, dark molasses, sweet mint gum, cured tobacco, and birch bark. That's all underpinned by a hint of rosemary, which builds in intensity with time in the glass. A first sip once again brings lots of dark fruit like black raisins and plums, along with a pleasant interplay between hefty oak and (surprisingly) agave syrup. Clove, rye spice, cedar, spiced cherry, leather, and funky brown sugar BBQ sauce round out the palate. The finish leans further into sweet, funky molasses before sticking the landing with a bit of sherry and (though I wouldn't have minded a touch more viscosity here). If you're into oak, enjoy, because there's lots of it at the end. It's a somewhat dry final act, which could be a positive or slight negative, depending on the drinker's personal preference. Ultimately, Woodinville has produced one of the most fascinating American rye whiskeys thus far in 2025, with bold flavors that don't pull punches. It's not the most classically 'elegant' pour, instead unabashedly showcasing aged rye grain for all its sweet, herbal, and fruity notes. To some, it may sound like sacrilege to experiment with dilution for a 100 proof rye, but there's lots more a little water can unlock here. Woodinville 100% Rye Aged 8 Years retails for a suggested $129.99.

Seth Rollins vs. Penta WWE Raw advertised Jey Uso vs. Bronson Reed, Sami Zayn vs. Bron Breakker and Roxanne Perez vs. Kairi Sane. Raw also advertised a live appearance from Becky Lynch and El Grande Americano, and a main event pitting Seth Rollins against Penta. WWE Raw Results On July 7, 2025 WWE Raw Ticket Sales WWE Raw Highlights, Winners And Grades Seth Rollins Kicks Off Raw Bron Breakker immediately went into business for himself and cut a long promo on Sami Zayn. Seth Rollins could be seen in the background giving Bron an awkward look. This lines up with recent reports that WWE is already laying the groundwork for a Breakker-Rollins split. Bronson Reed cut a promo of his own, but was met with 'what' chants. Reed, who faces Jey Uso later on, reminded fans that he stuck Rollins with six Tsunamis and gained Seth's respect. Seth Rollins and Paul Heyman each cut promos as well. Chants of 'OTC' and 'CM Punk' went unanswered by the babyfaces. Heyman cut a promo in Spanish on Penta, whom he vowed would take a beating from Rollins. Kairi Sane Def. Roxanne Perez Backstage, the Judgment Day held a vigil for Liv Morgan, but Raquel Rodriguez reminded them—particularly Roxanne—that Liv wasn't dead and she's be back soon. Ever the pessimist, Finn Balor said it took him eight months to come back from his shoulder injury. AJ Styles left a 'Get Well Soon' cake behind for Dominik Mysterio, who continues to heal from injury. Despite backup from Raquel Rodriguez, Roxanne Perez suffered an upset loss to Kairi Sane. Perez and Rodriguez ganged up on Kairi, but Asuka made the save. Adam Pearce booked the Kabuki Warriors in Sunday's women's tag team match. Bron Breakker Def. Sami Zayn Sami Zayn was ambushed by Karrion Kross during his entrance. Zayn, who already had his ribs taped up, was bludgeoned by a pipe-wielding Kross. As Breakker entered the ring, he looked at a wounded Zayn the way a predator looks at his prey. Predictably, Breakker dominated the match from the offset. Zayn fought back valiantly, but was cut off in midair with a wicked Spear from Breakker. Rhode Island barked in approval as Michael Cole begged fro the match to start. Breakker followed up with a 360 Spear as Cole begged Adam Pearce to 'Stop the damn match.' Rhode Island disagreed as they chanted 'One more time!' Breakker split Zayn in half with a third Spear for the win. Becky Lynch, Lyra Valkyria And Bayley Brawl Becky Lynch cut a delusional promo about being Intercontinental champion. She was interrupted by Bayley, but before Bayley could make it down the ramp, Bayley was interrupted by Lyra Valkyria. Lyra cut her best promo to date. She was confident, if not heelish. After Bayley said she doesn't need any partners or friends, Lyra said she needs to be more like Bayley and become more selfish. Bayley mocked Lyra for losing to Becky Lynch only to 'Raise her hand like a little bitch!' A brawl ensued, building to Sunday's Triple Threat match. Jey Uso Def. Bronson Reed By DQ Jey Uso fought from underneath early on, but then it was relatively back-and-forth. Uso went for a Suicide Dive, but reed threw a chair in Jey's face for the disqualification. After two Tsunamis, WWE officials hit the ring to top Reed from doing more damage. Cole insisted this match was never about winning. El Grande Americano Def. Dragon Lee Fans cheered El Grande Americano (Ludwig Kaiser) during his entrance. Micheal Cole spent the entire match doubting this was the real El Grande Americano, while Corey Graves played dumb. Cole pointed out hos small El Grande's mask looked on him, and Graves said it he was wearing it snug so it didn't slip off. Michael Cole pointed out the fact that El Grande Americano had no tattoos, but Corey Graves said he had a tattoo removed this morning. El Grande Americano won the match with with a steel plate in his mask. Seth Rollins Vs. Penta
