Ford says Trump tariffs to cost it about $2bn this year
Motor industry giant Ford says it expects tariffs to cost it about $2bn (£1.5bn) this year, which is more than previously expected, despite building most of its cars in America. The company says it had already paid an extra $800m in duties in the three months ending in June. It also suffered losses related to cutting an electric vehicle programme. It is the latest indication of the impact of US President Donald Trump's tariffs on major American firms and the challenges ahead as he seeks to reshape global supply chains. But Ford is seeing a less pronounced tariffs impact than some of its competitors as much of its manufacturing is in the US. Ford's finance chief Sherry House said the firm had raised its forecast for the cost of tariffs on its business because levies on Mexico and Canada, where it has facilities, have remained higher for longer than expected. She also pointed to US tariffs on imported aluminium and steel. Last week, rival carmaker General Motors said tariffs had already cost it more than $1bn, while Volkswagen put its hit at $1.5bn. Jim Farley, Ford's chief executive, said the firm is in regular contact with the White House as the company tries to secure lower tariffs, especially on vehicle parts. "We see there's a lot of upside depending on how the negotiation goes with the administration," he said. Trump has raised duties on most goods, with special tariffs targeting cars and car parts, as well as the key materials used to manufacture them. He has said the measures are intended to convince companies, in the US and abroad, to make their products in America. Ford's shares were about 1.5% lower in extended trading in New York on Wednesday after the earnings announcement. 擷取數據時發生錯誤 登入存取你的投資組合 擷取數據時發生錯誤 擷取數據時發生錯誤 擷取數據時發生錯誤 擷取數據時發生錯誤

Mayor Bass orders ban on SB 9 applications in Palisades Fire zone
Mayor Karen Bass signed an executive order on Wednesday, prohibiting Senate Bill 9 applications in the Palisades Fire zone, which would bar the construction of multiple homes on a parcel of land typically zoned for a single house. Bass issued the restrictions shortly after Gov. Gavin Newsom signed a state executive order that delegated regulatory power on SB 9 applications in high fire hazard severity zones to local governments in Los Angeles County. Newsom's executive order also places a seven-day pause on SB 9 developments in fire zones in Altadena, Sunset Mesa and Malibu. "We will continue to assist communities in rebuilding safely in ways that are responsive to local concerns," Newsom said. "This executive order responds directly to requests from local officials and community feedback, recognizing the need for local discretion in recovery and that not all laws are designed for rebuilding entire communities destroyed by fires overnight." In a statement released a day before issuing the executive order, Bass claimed that SB 9 developments could potentially create a bottleneck in evacuation and emergency situations. "The ability for developers to use SB 9 to change recently destroyed single-family home lots into multiple residences could drastically further challenge ingress and egress in a Very High Fire Hazard Severity Zone (VHFSZ) following the worst fire disaster the city has ever faced," Bass said on Tuesday. "It could fundamentally alter the safety of the area by straining local infrastructure." During the opening hours of the Palisades Fire, the sheer amount of evacuees fleeing the flames created a gridlock along Pacific Coast Highway and the surrounding roads. When the fire grew closer to the area, authorities told drivers to abandon their cars and flee on foot. "The fire came right down to the road and the fire department came up and said get out of your cars now — because the fire was right up against the cars," said Marsha Horowitz, who was driving down Sunset at the time. "There were three lanes of cars, and the fire was right down and there was nothing to stop it." Firefighters used a bulldozer to clear the roads filled with abandoned cars. SB 9, also known as the Housing Opportunity and More Efficiency Act, took effect in 2022 and changed the limits on the number of homes that can be built on a parcel of land typically reserved for a single house. It was touted as a way to increase the availability of homes amid the state's housing crisis. Once approved, people could build up to four homes on a parcel and split a lot into two. SB 9 projects were restricted to urban areas and could not be in a historical district. The law also states that parcels in very high fire hazard safety zones or earthquake fault zones may not be eligible for the program. "SB 9 was not originally intended to be used in the rebuilding of a community that was decimated by the worst natural disaster L.A. has ever seen," Bass said on Wednesday. "I thank Governor Newsom for working with my office to provide some sense of solace for a community working to rebuild."

Here's How Much Traders Expect Carvana Stock To Move After Earnings
Carvana (CVNA) is scheduled to report earnings after the closing bell on Wednesday, with traders expecting another big move from the volatile used car retailer's stock. Options pricing suggests traders are anticipating Carvana stock to move roughly 11% by the end of Friday's trading session. A move of that scale would lift shares to a record high of over $373 or drop them to about $299, their lowest level since May. Carvana shares were down 2% at $329 in recent trading. Carvana stock has swung dramatically this year, dropping from about $285 in February to $163 in early April—and doubling in the months since. The "meme stock" that has captured the attention of retail investors on social media has rallied enough that its shares are approaching their all-time high of more than $370 in August 2021, back when COVID-19 lockdowns and stimulus checks fueled a surge in used-car sales. Oppenheimer analysts said they believe Carvana stock could grow another 30%, issuing a strongly bullish price target of $450 in a note to clients last week. The broker described Carvana as a 'unique, digitally-driven disruptor' poised to gain traction in the "expansive and inefficient domestic used car marketplace." Heading into earnings, 10 brokers covering Carvana have buy ratings for the stock, compared to three hold ratings, according to Visible Alpha. Their average price target of around $371 represents a 10% premium over Tuesday's intraday price. Carvana stock has registered an average post-earnings move of 13% over the past four quarters, rising in three of those instances. In May, shares jumped 10% after the company reported record profit and retail units sold. Read the original article on Investopedia
