Cracks on 1 arm, residents demand audit of entire GMLR
Senior BMC officials, however, claimed that there is no cause for concern as they are carrying out rectification work, which will be completed within a month.
On April 10, a VJTI expert team conducted an inspection of the arm after some panels of the flyover's reinforced earth (RE) wall were found to be destabilised, and cracks seen on the RCC crash barriers. The VJTI report had stated that a jacketing pit, excavated for an underground network adjacent to the RE wall by BMC's sewerage project department, had led to the bridge foundation being damaged, resulting in destabilisation of the RE wall panels and cracks on the crash barriers.
VJTI had then recommended that BMC prohibit heavy vehicles on the arm until rectification work is carried out. It had also advised iron reinforcements for the foundation to prevent further erosion.

According to BMC officials, the SP department's contractor has started rectification works and the arm is temporarily closed for heavy vehicles. The contractor said the work is expected to be completed within a month.
But residents are not convinced. Expressing concerns about the cracks on the Deonar dumping ground arm, the Govandi Citizens Welfare Forum has demanded a full structural audit of the flyover. "And the audit report should be made public," said Shaikh Fayyaz Alam, convener of the forum.
The 2.9km flyover connecting Veermata Jijabai Bhosale Marg and Sion-Panvel highway was inaugurated in Aug 2021. Motorists from Eastern Express Highway, Eastern Freeway, and Santacruz-Chembur Link Road use the flyover to head towards Navi Mumbai, Western Maharashtra, Karnataka, and the Konkan region. — Sanjeev Devasia

Belgian Grand Prix results: Oscar Piastri beats Lando Norris once again to register sixth win of the F1 season
Oscar Piastri wins Belgian Grand Prix (Image credit: F1) The order on the podium continues to remain unchanged, with Oscar Piastri winning his sixth race of the season at the Belgian Grand Prix. The McLaren driver was followed by his teammate Lando Norris in second, and Ferrari's Charles Leclerc in third. Max Verstappen, however, missed out on the podium by finishing fourth in his home race at the iconic Spa-Francorchamps. Belgian Grand Prix 2025 highlights Sunday's race in Belgium was delayed by around 80 minutes due to heavy rainfall. The podium finishers were the same as the top three on the grid after Saturday's qualifying. While Norris started from pole, Piastri joined him on the front row in second, and Leclerc started third. All three drivers managed to maintain their positions on the wet track. Talking about his strategy after clinching victory, Piastri said, 'Lively, very lively! I knew Lap 1 would probably be my best chance of winning the race. I got a good exit out of Turn 1, lifted as little as I dared, and yeah. We had it mostly under control from there. I was a bit disappointed with the rolling start as I thought that would take away the opportunity. But when I was that close through Eau Rouge, I knew I was going to lift a little less than Lando. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like No annual fees for life UnionBank Credit Card Apply Now Undo Proud of my first lap. I had the same plan as Norris if I was second — I knew that was a likely decision for him, but the medium was the sensible tyre for me.' Norris, who started on pole but lost the winner's trophy to Piastri, said after the race, 'Oscar just did a good job, nothing more to say. Committed more through Eau Rouge, got the slipstream and the run. That was it, nothing else I could do at that point. Oscar deserved it today. Shoulda, woulda, coulda. Oscar deserved it. I'll review my things, but still happy for the team — another 1-2, and our first 1-2 here in many, many years.
