Body of missing father of five found in Georgia lake after kayaking trip
Dustin Valencia, 43, was reported missing Wednesday by his wife after he did not show up to pick up his children from school, the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office said.
A search ensued and authorities tracked his last location to Lake Lanier in Georgia, where they found Valencia's car parked nearby, along with his flip-flops and the bag used to store his inflatable kayak.
On Friday, the department announced that game wardens with the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, using sonar equipment, located a body in the lake. Divers from the Forsyth County Fire Department recovered the remains from about 51 feet of water near the center of a cove.

On Monday, the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office confirmed the body was that of Valencia.

In the days following his disappearance, Valencia's kayak and paddle were found floating near the outer edge of the cove. Friends say he was training for a triathlon and had likely gone kayaking for exercise.
Authorities said the 43-year-old kayaker was not wearing a life vest at the time of his drowning.
"My understanding is that he was not wearing a life vest," an official said, according to Fox News affiliate Waga-tv. "Even strong swimmers can have a medical emergency or cramp. If that happens, and you're not wearing a life jacket, you're at serious risk."

An official cause of death has not been released. The case remains under investigation by the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office Major Crimes Unit. The sheriff's office referred Fox News Digital to the department's press release.

Lake Lanier, where Valencia disappeared, is home to a popular local legend. The ghost story of the Lady of the Lake involves a woman in a blue dress who is said to haunt the lake after dying in a car accident there in the 1950s.

The Justice Department has escalated efforts to investigate those behind the years-old probe into Russia's interference in the 2016 presidential election by launching a grand jury probe. The Justice Department has opened a grand jury investigation into allegations that Obama administration officials broke the law when they investigated Russia's involvement in the 2016 presidential election, according to news reports. Attorney General Pam Bondi signed an order Aug. 4 directing a federal prosecutor to present evidence to the grand jury, Fox News and the Wall Street Journal reported, citing sources familiar with the investigation. The Justice Department declined to comment. The move marks a major escalation of the Trump administration's efforts to investigate the investigators behind the years-old probe. Robert Mueller, who ultimately took over the probe as special counsel, concluded that the Russian government interfered to help then-presidential candidate Donald Trump defeat Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton, but that there was not evidence anyone in the Trump campaign colluded with Russia. The new criminal probe follows allegations National Intelligence Director Tulsi Gabbardmade at a July 23 press briefing that the Obama administration pushed a 'contrived narrative' that Russia interfered in the 2016 election to benefit Trump. That same day, the Justice Department announced it was creating a "Strike Force" to assess evidence highlighted by Gabbard and "investigate potential next legal steps." Miranda Devine says Trump told her he regrets being 'so merciful' to Hillary Clinton in first term
New York Post columnist Miranda Devine told Fox News host Will Caine on Monday that President Donald Trump wanted accountability over "Russiagate" against Hillary Clinton and former President Barack Obama. "I think the reason that I think there will be accountability this term is because President Trump told me that he regrets now being so merciful to Hillary Clinton in his first term," Devine told Cain in his podcast, "Will Cain Country." Devine interviewed Trump on her "Pod Force One" podcast last week, where he claimed Obama had committed treason after DNI Tulsi Gabbard accused his administration of promoting a "contrived narrative" that Russia interfered in the 2016 election to benefit Trump, which led to a sprawling collusion investigation that dominated his first term in office. "He realizes now that accountability is a deterrent, that these people, they need to be heads on pikes," Devine said. "So whether it's Barack Obama or Hillary Clinton, certainly John Brennan and James Clapper, there are allegations quite firmly evidenced of perjury and also conspiracy," she added. Attorney General Pam Bondi directed her staff Monday to act on the criminal referral from Gabbard related to the alleged conspiracy to tie Trump to Russia, and the Department of Justice is now opening a grand jury investigation into the matter, Fox News Digital reported on Monday.
