Blade Tidwell earns first career MLB win with Mets
The Brewers won game No. 1 of the doubleheader, 7-2.
Former Tennessee pitcher Blade Tidwell (1-1) earned his first MLB career win in Wednesday's second game. New York defeated the Brewers, 7-3.
He pitched 4.1 innings in relief and recorded three strikeouts. The former Vol allowed five hits, two home runs, three runs (three earned) and two walks.
Tidwell totaled 80 pitches, including 51 strikes, against 20 batters: 13 first pitch strikes, 15 called strikes, three swinging strikes, 18 foul balls and 13 in-play strikes.

Wednesday marked his fourth appearance in 2025. He debuted in Major League Baseball on May 4 at St. Louis.
Tidwell (13-5) played for the Vols from 2021-22, appearing in 31 games (27 starts). He recorded 141 strikeouts and a 3.53 ERA, while leading all Tennessee pitchers with 18 starts as a true freshman in 2021.

Who's representing Iowa football at 2025 Big Ten Media Days?
Now that we're into the month of July, Big Ten football season is right around the corner. But before each team hits the gridiron next month, they'll send representatives to Las Vegas, Nevada for Big Ten Media Days. Big Ten Media Days will take place over three days this year, spanning July 22-24, with six teams speaking each day. Fans will have to wait until the final day, July 24, to hear Kirk Ferentz and his three team representatives talk about the 2025 season. Iowa joins Michigan, Michigan State, Purdue, UCLA and USC as the six teams to speak on the final day. Who's representing Iowa football at 2025 Big Ten Media Days? Ferentz is going veteran heavy with his representatives this year, bringing along junior Koen Entringer, sixth-year Logan Jones and sixth-year Ethan Hurkett. And by looking at each player's time in Iowa City, it's easy to see why Ferentz chose these three players. Entringer, a 6-foot-0 207-pound safety from Ypsilanti, Michigan, played in 12 games last season for the Hawkeyes. He made the first start of his career against Michigan State. In 2024, Entringer had 18 total tackles, one interception and one pass break-up. He figures to start at safety for Iowa this season. Advertisement Jones, a 6-foot-3 260-pound center from Council Bluffs, Iowa, has had a storied career with the Hawks so far. He's start 38 games in his career at center, earning a first-team All-Big Ten nod from the media and a second-team All-Big Ten selection from the coaches last season. Entering 2025, Jones is a Walter Camp preseason second-team All-American player. Hurkett, a 6-foot-3 260-pound defensive lineman from Cedar Rapids, Iowa, is coming off his best season as a Hawkeye. He was named an honorable mention All-Big Ten player by both the coaches and media after a 2024 season where he had 56 total tackles, 11.5 tackles for loss, six and a half sacks and three forced fumbles. Entering 2025, Hurkett was named an Athlon Sports second-team All-Big Ten player. Hawkeye fans will be curious to hear what those three players and Kirk Ferentz have to say at Big Ten Media Days. Source: Guardians pitcher Luis Ortiz placed on leave due to MLB betting investigation
CHICAGO — Guardians pitcher Luis Ortiz has been placed on 'non-disciplinary paid leave' through the end of the All-Star break as a result of an MLB investigation, with multiple sources telling The Athletic that the probe is related to gambling. The league announced that Ortiz would be placed on leave Thursday morning; MLB said in a statement it would not comment further until the conclusion of the investigation. Advertisement Ortiz had been scheduled to start for the Guardians on Thursday night against the Cubs at Wrigley Field. Joey Cantillo was promoted from Triple-A Columbus to start instead. The Guardians released the following statement: 'The Guardians have been notified by Major League Baseball that Luis Ortiz has been placed on leave per an agreement with the Players Association due to an ongoing league investigation. The Guardians are not permitted to comment further at this time, and will respect the league's confidential investigative process.' In 2024, MLB banned San Diego Padres infielder Tucupita Marcano for life for betting on his own team. The league also suspended four other players for a year for betting on baseball. MLB umpire Pat Hoberg was also fired earlier this year after it was learned that he shared sports betting accounts with a friend who bet on baseball games. Ortiz, acquired in a trade with the Pirates in November, owns a 4.36 ERA in 16 starts this year. The 26-year-old played for Pittsburgh from 2022-24.
