Shura panel debates state of industrial sector
During the meeting, the committee hosted members of the Oman Industrialists Association (OIA). The meeting discussed the expressed desire to evaluate the status of local industries in the Sultanate of Oman. The aim was to analyse the reality of the Omani industry in terms of challenges and opportunities and its readiness to achieve the goals of the Industrial Strategy and Oman Vision 2040.
At the beginning of the meeting, the OIA's members gave a visual presentation that covered several topics including the local added value of the industrial sector and the protection of national industrial products. It also addressed support programmes provided to the sector, the legislation and regulations governing the sector, the challenges facing infrastructure, financing as well as the training and employment of nationals cadres in the industrial sector.
The presentation also addressed the most prominent industrial indicators and growth rates of the industrial sector in the Sultanate of Oman over the past years, noting that the sector still relies on imported raw materials and machinery.
The members of the Economic and Financial Committee held extensive discussions with the OIA's members, focusing on the importance of conducting a comprehensive and periodic assessment of the industrial sector's status from the perspective of current challenges and future opportunities to enhance its contribution to the gross domestic product. The members reviewed proposals and solutions to address these challenges and enhance the role of industry in economic diversification.
The meeting discussed several recommendations that would enhance the growth of the industrial sector in the Sultanate of Oman including aligning policies with the industrial strategy, strengthening the role of small and medium enterprises and improving the work environment and integration between the public and private sectors.
The committee members emphasised the importance of concerted efforts to empower the sector and increase its contribution to achieving economic diversification and to identify and address the challenges facing the sector.
Separately, the Committee discussed the Ministry of Labour's statement requiring the appointment of at least one Omani citizen within one month in establishments and companies that have completed one year of their commercial registration. — ONA

GFOW aids in reinstating 80 Omanis in the private sector
Muscat: Following requests, the General Federation of Oman Workers (GFOW) managed to get the non-termination of contracts of 80 Omani workers in the month of June 2025. It also dealt with the contract termination of 16 Omani workers and 14 expatriates, while 80 workers were reinstated following requests from the private sector to reduce the number of workers due to economic conditions. The union confirmed in a statement that it dealt with 57 legal consultations and advice during the same month, which included issues affecting the rights and demands of the Omanis, including wages, economic conditions, vacations, termination of employment contracts, and working hours, in addition to requests related to improving the work environment, transferring projects, forming labor unions, and the termination of projects. New professional titles added to the hotel and resort sector
Muscat: The Ministry of Heritage and Tourism, in cooperation with the Ministry of Labor, announced the approval of 73 new professional titles for the hotel and resort sector to enhance the readiness of the labor market to accommodate qualified national competencies. These titles have been included in the Unified Gulf Guide for Occupational Classification and Description, and have been classified and distributed according to approved economic activities in the tourism sector, including hotels, resorts, hotel facilities, rest houses, chalets, heritage inns, and guest houses. These new titles provide employers and tourism establishments with broader options and greater precision in determining their workforce needs, contributing to the development of institutional performance and raising the efficiency of human resources in this vital sector. The approved job titles include several administrative and technical positions, such as Hotel General Manager, Resort General Manager, Resort Manager, Procurement Manager, Security and Safety Manager, Information Technology Manager, Security Manager, Finance Manager, Events Coordinator, Reservations Supervisor, Airport Services Representative, Guest Relations Clerk, and Audit Supervisor. The Ministry of Heritage and Tourism confirms that this step comes within the framework of joint coordination with the Ministry of Labor to support development in the tourism sector and create an appropriate environment for growth and investment, in line with the aspirations of Oman Vision 2040, which places tourism among the priorities of economic diversification.

Dhofar Municipality implements internal road projects worth over OMR36 million
Salalah: Dhofar Municipality is implementing a package of projects for the construction and paving of internal and dual carriageways across various wilayats of Dhofar Governorate during 2025, with total lengths estimated at over 300 kilometers and a cost exceeding OMR36 million. These efforts are part of its commitment to enhancing infrastructure and developing the local road network. The projects fall within the framework of the Governorates and Sustainable Cities Development Programme and the developmental projects implemented by Dhofar Municipality, in line with the national priorities of "Oman Vision 2040." They aim to improve the quality of services provided to citizens, residents, and visitors, and to facilitate movement between different residential areas, thereby supporting urban and economic development and enhancing traffic safety. The ongoing and completed works during the current year include the construction and paving of internal roads in the wilayats of Salalah, Taqa, Mirbat, Sadah, Shaleem & Al Hallaniyat Islands, Thumrait, Maqshan, Al Mazyunah, Rakhyut, and Dhalkut, according to a timetable and technical standards that consider public safety requirements and infrastructure sustainability. Dr. Ahmed Mohsen Al Ghassani, Chairman of Dhofar Municipality, stated to Oman News Agency (ONA) that the Wilayat of Salalah is witnessing the implementation of internal road totaling approximately 161 kilometers in residential areas within the centre of the wilayat, the plain, and the mountain, at a cost exceeding RO9 million. Additionally, there is a dual carriageway project of Sultan Qaboos Street, with a length of 9 kilometers, which has reached 22 percent completion, at a cost of OMR16.3 million. He added that the municipality will implement a project to pave 40 kilometers of internal roads in the Wilayat of Thumrait, along with a new project to dual Thumrait Street for 4.5 kilometers, including decorative lighting works, with a total cost for both projects reaching over RO 3 million. He also indicated that the municipality has begun implementing a project to pave 32 kilometers of internal roads in the Wilayat of Taqa (in the plain and mountain areas) at a cost of approximately RO 1.7 million, in addition to paving 20 kilometers of roads in the Wilayat of Mirbat at a cost of about RO 995,000, alongside the completion of the Mirbat Street dualization project this year, spanning 3.5 kilometers, at an estimated cost of RO 1.96 million. He pointed out that the municipality has also commenced implementing a project for the construction and paving of 50 kilometers of internal roads distributed across the wilayats of Sadah, Shaleem & Al Hallaniyat Islands, Rakhyut, Dhalkut, and Al Mazyunah, in addition to paving 15 kilometers of internal roads in the Wilayat of Maqshan. Dr. Ahmed affirmed that these projects are part of the government's plan to implement service projects that directly impact the lives of citizens and contribute to achieving balanced urban development covering various wilayats of the governorate, in line with national plans for infrastructure development in the Sultanate of Oman's governorates. It is worth noting that Dhofar Municipality continues to carry out its work in a participatory approach that considers community needs and enhances the efficiency of municipal services and developmental projects in various sectors.
