Dad dies a year after freak accident while riding his daughter's e-scooter
A dad has tragically died one year after a freak accident involving his daughter's e-scooter.
In March 2024 Isaac Craig was involved in a serious collision while riding his daughter's e-scooter. He was hit by a driver who ran a stop sign while testing out a new tyre on his daughter's e-scooter near his home in Townsville, Queensland.
He was rushed to hospital and as a result of his injuries he was left almost completly bedridden and struggled to perform everyday tasks. In a heartbreaking message his stepson, Callum Albert wrote online: "He spent most of his days alone in his room... the smallest things would bring him joy like hearing the kids come and go or having conversations that he never wanted to end. It was his way of holding on to normalcy."
Callum said that it had been heartbreaking to watch him slowly deteriorate both mentally and physically and explained that on his stepfather's worst days, he would lock himself inside his bedroom and was "slipping further into depression".
But tragically, Issac suffered a heart attack last month, not a direct complication linked to the accident. He was without a flow of oxygen to his brain for 24 minutes before he was revived and rushed to Townsville Hospital, MailOnline reports.
He was placed in ICU where doctors found he had little to no brain activity and a week later Issac's wife Lisa was forced to make the heartbreaking decision to turn off his life support. His grieving family initially faced the possibility of losing their family home but mortgage payments have been paused while the family comes up with a solution.
Callum started a GoFundMe page to raise funds for house expenses, cremation expenses, daily expenses of Issac's wife and daughter and future bills has raised over $3,000. Th page said: "If donations do come, all of it will be given to his widowed wife and she will use it to best herself and their daughter Rebecca's current financial situation.
"She has no idea about any of this (now she does) but I do know this will make her happy cry and to be relieved that even though it's not all the pressure, at least some is taken off her shoulders."
In an update on Friday June 20, Callum said his mother had been aware of the campaign and that she had received his stepfather's ashes. He wrote: "Hey guys it's been a few days, not much has changed, mum has received Isaac's ashes back so he's finally back home with her." He added: "The support has been overwhelmingly substantial! Thank you to everyone who has helped so far."

The crash happened between Wheddon Cross and Timberscombe, at about 3.15pm on Thursday. The vehicle left the road, overturned and came to rest about 20ft from the road, down a steep slope. An off-duty firefighter travelling behind the coach was able to start freeing passengers immediately. Recovery of the vehicle and the investigation are complex, and according to the PA news agency, the road will remain closed until the beginning of next week. A stream of people visited the school, which has pupils aged between nine and 14, on Friday to pay respects and leave tributes at the gates after the crash. The school was closed, but people left floral tributes and messages at the gates. Many were visibly upset and were hugging and supporting each other. After the incident, the school's headteacher, Laura Mackie, spoke of the "unimaginable" loss. "Just complete devastation, complete heartbreak for our whole school community," she said, trying to hold back tears. "We're thinking of the student that we lost, their family, their friends, all of their loved ones. "I'm thinking of my staff team, who are amazing, dedicated. And all of our wonderful students who have been impacted and affected by this." Speaking outside the school gates on Friday, the Rev Philip Butcher, the vicar of Minehead, said the community was in shock. He said: "It was absolutely numbing, there are no words to describe what happened yesterday. It's an absolute tragedy, and one that's still very much unfolding. Former baseball player dies saving family from drowning in South Carolina
A family in Dallas is grieving after their patriarch – a former pro baseball player turned police officer – died saving five others from drowning while they all recently vacationed, as authorities and an online page in his honor tell it. Chase Childers, 38, 'displayed extraordinary courage and selflessness … ultimately paying the highest sacrifice with his life' in front of his wife Nataley and their three children, said a GoFundMe page launched to support his family. 'His bravery, kindness and love will always be remembered.' Childers – a former member of Major League Baseball's Baltimore Orioles – had gone with Nataley and their children from their home in Dallas to Pawleys Island, South Carolina, on vacation, as the news station WCBD from nearby Charleston reported. He noticed another family of about five in distress while swimming amid a rip current near the island on 13 July, and he leapt into action by heading into the water with another person to help get them out, Pawleys Island police said in a statement. The family and the man accompanying Childers made it back to the shore. But Childers did not emerge, prompting police, firefighters and the US coast guard to search for him. Crews then found Childers dead and recovered his body about 90 minutes later, Pawleys Island police said. A statement on the GoFundMe page for Childers' family said he gave 'everything he had to save' the family caught up in the rip current, which is a fast-moving column of water flowing away from the shore. Officials urge swimmers caught in rip currents to swim calmly in parallel to the shore. 'Tragically,' the GoFundMe page said of Childers, 'he was unable to stay above water.' Childers had grown up in Georgia, north-east of Atlanta, winning a state baseball championship in 2003, according to the city's Journal-Constitution newspaper. He later played for Georgia State University's baseball team, signed with the Orioles after turning pro and logged two seasons in the minor leagues with clubs in Florida and West Virginia. Cobb county's police force awarded Childers a life saving award in 2012. And the GoFundMe page started for Childers' family after his death noted that he had been honored 'for saving several lives'. The GoFundMe page for Childers' family had raised more than $160,000 as of Friday. Sister pays tribute to drowned Briton who ‘died trying to save his friend'
The sister of a British man who drowned in Portugal has said he died trying to save his best friend's life. King Edonmi, 29, and Mo Liasu, 27, both believed to be from Ipswich, lost their lives less than 24 hours after arriving on holiday in Albufeira, in Portugal. The pair are believed to have drowned in the swimming pool at the Duas Palmeiras by LovelyStay apartment complex on Tuesday. Candles, flowers and tealights spelling out the men's names have since been laid near flats on Ipswich Waterfront, including a note reading: "Miss you - always fly high." Kemi Edonmi, King's sister, paid tribute to her brother online, writing: 'My best friend is really gone. 'Rest in peace to my big brother and his best friend Mo, we love you and will never forget you both. 'The whole family is comforted by the fact that King died in Christ. 'From Jesus – For Jesus – Back to Jesus. We shall all meet again.' She also said that he had died while "trying to save his friend's life.' Some local reports suggested the men had been drinking, but Ms Edonmi insisted this was not true. 'My brother and Mo do not drink and were not intoxicated at the time of the incident,' she wrote. 'Articles with false information and insensitive comments don't know the pain they're causing the people closest to King and Mo.' A Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office spokesperson said: 'We are supporting the families of two British men who have died in Portugal and are in contact with the local authorities.' The Policia Judiciaria has already been in contact with the British embassy in Portugal. The GoFundMe page has so far raised over £25,000, which will go towards the repatriation costs. The Policia Judiciaria, Portugal's criminal investigation police, said the incident is not being treated as suspicious. A spokesperson said: 'The inspection of the scene revealed no evidence of criminal activity. 'Witnesses to the events were interviewed, confirming the investigation's belief that it was an accident.'
