Sulphur man charged with 34 counts of child porn possession
Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office spokesperson Kayla Vincent said on April 9 detectives with the Special Victims Unit began investigating the tips using their Internet Crimes Against Children Taskforce.
During the investigation detectives learned Matthew T. Simien, 31, was in possession of child sexual abuse material (CSAM).
Vincent said after further investigation, on April 17, detectives issued a warrant for his arrest.
'Detectives attempted to locate him but were unsuccessful,' she said.
On May 5, Simien was located at his residence and arrested and booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center. He is charged with 34 counts of pornography involving juveniles.
Judge Michael Canaday set his bond at $1.7 million.

Dark web child abuse websites dismantled by DOJ, FBI
President Donald Trump's Justice Department recently announced that a joint operation resulted in the dismantling of four dark web sites responsible for the distribution of child sexual abuse material to hundreds of thousands of users. The operation also resulted in 18 convictions. In a press release last Wednesday, the Justice Department confirmed that 18 people were convicted as part of Operation Grayskull, which was coordinated by the Justice Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). The press release noted that the operation led to the 'dismantling' of four dark web sites that were 'dedicated to images and videos containing child sexual abuse material (CSAM).' 'Today's announcement sends a clear warning to those who exploit and abuse children: you will not find safe haven, even on the dark web,' Acting Assistant Attorney General Matthew R. Galeotti of the Justice Department's Criminal Division said. 'These offenders thought that they could act without consequences, but they were wrong. The Justice Department described the dismantled dark web sites as 'some of the most egregious' sites on the dark web, with some website sections even featuring 'infants and toddlers, as well as depictions of violence, sadism, and torture.' The department also noted that the websites gave users advice to avoid being detected by law enforcement officials. FBI Director Kash Patel said Operation Grayskull is one of the 'most significant strikes' against online child exploitation networks. 'We've not only dismantled dangerous platforms on the dark web, but we've also brought key perpetrators to justice and delivered a powerful message: you cannot hide behind anonymity to harm children,' Patel stated. The Justice Department confirmed that nine individuals were convicted and sentenced in Florida for running the main dark web site that was targeted by Operation Grayskull, while nine individuals were convicted for operating other dark web sites devoted to child sexual abuse material. Additionally, two other individuals died before they were charged for their role in the dark web sites. In addition to the convictions in the United States, the Justice Department noted that other individuals were arrested in Belgium, Estonia, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, South Africa, and the United Kingdom. According to CBS News, Operation Grayskull started in 2020 after law enforcement officials observed an increase in traffic to a dark web site that was suspected of providing child sexual abuse material. An FBI official told CBS News that the dark web sites targeted in Operation Grayskull attracted over 120,000 people, had at least 100,000 website visits in one day, and had millions of files. 'Even for prosecutors, it is difficult to understand how pervasive this is,' Galeotti told CBS News. 'Because it happens on the dark web, people aren't aware of it. It's extremely troubling.'

Man accused of secretly filming women during sex: Scottsdale PD

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. - Scottsdale Police say they have made an arrest in a case that involved allegations of women being secretly recorded during intimate moments. What we know Court documents related to the case identified the suspect as 43-year-old Julian Burne Nixon. Nixon was arrested on July 30. Dig deeper Per court documents, Scottsdale Police received a report on April 17 of an unlawful recording that happened at Nixon's home. The person who reported the incident was identified as a victim. "The victim reported that her now ex-boyfriend, (the suspect), had three Apple iPhone boxes set up pointing towards the suspect's bed in his one-bedroom apartment," read a portion of the documents. Investigators note that Nixon's ex-girlfriend, while giving a description of the boxes and where they were located in the bedroom, was not able to look into the phones to discover the contents inside. "After seeing the phone, she confronted Julian via text message, who admitted to secretly recording them having sex," read a portion of a statement released by Scottsdale Police. "He stated he records just in case a female attempts to say she was sexually assaulted, or something was done without her consent. [Nixon] insisted the recordings were deleted." On May 7, court documents state that detectives executed a search warrant for Nixon's electronics at his apartment. "During that contact with the suspect, post-Miranda Rights, the suspect admitted to surreptitiously recording an unknown number of women he met on dating application platforms while he completed sexual acts with him," investigators wrote. "Per the suspect, his reason for the recordings was to protect himself if the women claimed any abuse, such as rape." Officials said Nixon did not wish to show detectives the devices and the videos at first, saying he will "get rid of them." "When he was advised that it was a crime to record those women unlawfully and have possession of them, the suspect [admitted] knowing what he did was wrong," court documents state. Police said it was later discovered that Nixon "had videos dating back to potential victims from 2016-2025." "Under his Apple Photos album labeled "alfredcamera," it had 110 videos that showed a long-standing activity video devices being surreptitiously set up in multiple locations within the suspect's residence (living room and bedroom)," investigators wrote. Investigators said multiple women who did not know one another were identified, and four of them said they "met the suspect on dating applications or group meet ups for singles." They also say two women have not been identified. What Nixon Said To Police According to investigators, Nixon admitted during an interview to recording women, but said he didn't make the recording for sexual pleasure, and that the videos were deleted. "At [that] time, [Nixon] was not arrested, as SVU had not yet seen any of the alleged recordings," read the statement. What's next Nixon is accused of a total of 12 counts of felony unlawful recording and 12 counts of voyeurism. Per court documents, a judge has set a $75,000 bond for Nixon, and should he make bond, he is required to submit to electronic monitoring, curfew restrictions, and a ban on using the internet except at work, for work purposes, among other conditions. 'Roe's crimes of receipt and possession of child pornography are not victimless crimes. Rather, they cause real and significant harm to children and their families,' federal prosecutors wrote. 'None of the minor victims in this case are abstractions or objects — they are real people who experienced sexual exploitation for these pictures or images to be distributed and possessed.' Investigators targeted Roe after South African authorities arrested a person sharing child pornography over the internet and then had a police officer pose as that person, records show. Advertisement Roe was a member of a large group of people who swapped and sold child pornography that was monitored by the undercover officer, according to federal prosecutors. Roe's electronic identifiers, including his telephone number, were found by the officer, records show. In September, Advertisement Investigators submitted thousands of the images to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, which identified 518 individual children, records show. Thirty victims are seeking restitution from Roe and 44 submitted victim impact statements under seal to the court. According to court records, Roe agreed to pay 25 victims amounts ranging from $3,000 to $7,500 based on the number of images of them that investigators found. He refused to pay $10,000 each to five other victims, records show. In court papers, defense lawyers said Roe had never been convicted of a crime but acknowledged he deserved a prison sentence. 'Mr. Roe agrees with the government that his actions justify a sentence of five years incarceration, five years supervised release, and restitution,' his court-appointed attorneys wrote. Roe will also have to register as a sex offender once released. In 2012, He was found guilty on a charge of indecent assault and battery on a child under 14 in January 2015, but was acquitted in 2017 after a second jury trial, court documents show. Roe has been working a variety of carpentry jobs in recent years and was living with his parents at the time of his arrest, court records show. John R.
