Mohd Khalid Ismail appointed new IGP

By: Bernama Text Size: KUALA LUMPUR: Bukit Aman Special Branch director Datuk Mohd Khalid Ismail ( pic ) has been appointed as the new Inspector-General of Police (IGP), replacing Tan Sri Razarudin Husain, effective today. The handover-of-duties ceremony took place at the Kuala Lumpur Police Training Centre (Pulapol), witnessed by the Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail and attended by the Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil as well as senior officers of the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM).
Advertisement Mohd Khalid, 60, has held various important positions in the PDRM Special Branch, including Chief of the Pahang Special Branch from May 25, 2018, before being appointed as the Bukit Aman Special Branch chief assistant director on Sept 6, 2021. Saifuddin Nasution in a statement today said Mohd Khalid's appointment received the consent of His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia in accordance with Clauses (4) and (5) Article 140 of the Federal Constitution, upon the advice of the Prime Minister and the recommendation of the Police Force Commission. According to him, the contract appointment is for two years, starting from June 23 this year until June 22, 2027. He said Mohd Khalid was a highly experienced officer in the field of intelligence and security since he began serving in the force on April 5, 1987, when he was assigned to the Special Branch at the Bukit Aman police headquarters, after completing the General Police Training in the same year.
Advertisement "Mohd Khalid also has experience serving at the Bukit Aman police headquarters, contingents and overseas, and has held key positions such as Deputy Director of Special Branch I, Bukit Aman police headquarters, and Security Liaison Officer (SLO) London, United Kingdom. "He was promoted to the position of Special Branch director on April 10, 2023, before mandatory retirement on April 8, 2025, and his service as Special Branch director continued after retirement and he was appointed on a contract basis starting from April 8, 2025, until now," he said. Saifuddin Nasution said that based on his extensive experience in the field of policing, Mohd Khalid possesses high competence and leadership qualities to carry on the continuity and responsibility of leading the team. Mohd Khalid, who was born in Manong, Perak on April 8, 1965, holds a Master's Degree in Comparative Laws and a Bachelor's Degree in Law (Honours) from the International Islamic University Malaysia, as well as a Diploma in Public Administration from Universiti Teknologi Mara. Saifuddin Nasution also expressed appreciation to Tan Sri Razarudin Husain for his dedicated service and contributions during his tenure as IGP since June 23, 2023. Pakistani man charged with sodomy, sexual assault and robbery
SHAH ALAM: A Pakistani man was charged in the Sessions Court here Wednesday (July 23) on five charges involving sodomy, sexual assault and robbery of two children and two teenage boys between April and June. Muhammad Hassan, 24, however, pleaded not guilty after all charges were read out before Judge Norazlin Othman in Urdu. The accused is facing two charges of having unnatural sex with a 19-year-old and a 15-year-old boy without their consent. The offences were committed on June 26 and May 18 in an area near Section 27 Shah Alam at 10.05pm and 1.30pm respectively. The accused was charged under Section 377C of the Penal Code which provides for a maximum prison sentence of 20 years and caning. The man was also accused of robbing a 19-year-old teenager of RM230 in cash at the same place and time and was charged under Section 392 of the Penal Code which provides for a maximum prison sentence of 14 years and a fine or whipping, if convicted. In addition, in the same proceedings, the accused was also charged with committing sexual assault on two boys aged eight and 13 in May and June, also around Section 27. The charge was made under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017 which provides for a maximum prison sentence of 20 years and can be subject to whipping. Today's proceedings were conducted by deputy public prosecutors Nurul Sofea Jaysal and Ruthra Raj Selvarajoo while the accused was not represented. Nurul Sofea did not offer any bail to the accused. Muhammad Hassan, through an interpreter, appealed to the court to appoint a lawyer on his behalf as he had no contacts or family in Malaysia and was unaware of the process for appointing a lawyer as he was being held in prison. Over 60 police reports lodged nationwide over planned rally in KL
KUALA LUMPUR Over 60 police reports have been lodged across the country on a rally scheduled to take place on Saturday (July 27) here. Acting Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Mohamed Usuf Jan Mohamad said 10,000 and 15,000 people are expected to join the rally. He said participants are expected to gather at five main locations, namely the National Mosque, Pasar Seni, Sultan Abdul Samad Masjid Jamek, Kampung Baru Masjid Jamek and a shopping complex in the capital before moving to Dataran Merdeka. "To ensure the safety of public service users, personnel of public service operators and police will be increased at several stations," he said in a statement on Wednesday (July 23). Mohamed Usuf said among the stations involved are the LRT stations at KL Sentral, Masjid Jamek, Pasar Seni, Dang Wangi, Plaza Rakyat and Bandaraya; as well as MRT and Monorail stations such as Muzium Negara, Merdeka, Bukit Bintang, Imbi, Raja Chulan, Bukit Nanas, Medan Tuanku and Chow Kit. He said police expect traffic congestion heading towards the city centre due to participants entering affected areas but there will be no road closures. "Organisers and participants are advised to comply with all existing regulations and laws during the assembly in line with the rights to freedom of peaceful assembly as provided for under the Federal Constitution," he said. Mohamed Usuf also warned participants not to carry weapons or sharp objects; set off firecrackers or flares, display provocative banners, give defamatory speeches, bring their children or disobey instructions of authorities. "Strict action will be taken against any individual or group that causes chaos, riots or excessive provocation," he said. On July 18, Mohamed Usuf said that police had received notification on the gathering from the organisers. Factory worker loses RM210,000 to fake investment scheme advertised on Facebook
IPOH: A factory worker lost RM210,000 in life savings after falling victim to a non-existent investment scheme advertised on Facebook. The victim, known only as Chan, 47, said he came across the social media advertisement on March 26 promoting a high-return investment opportunity, which prompted him to invest. He later contacted an individual named Linda via WhatsApp, who introduced herself as a remisier or investment intermediary. "The investment seemed legitimate as I was instructed to download the 'Citi CDT' App from the Apple Store. The app verified, and I started by investing RM10,000 on the same day," he said during a press conference at the Perak MCA Building today. Chan went on to make five more transfers between April 2 and April 28 via online banking, cash deposit machines and over-the-counter transactions to four different bank accounts. Chan added that he was later informed he would receive returns of nearly RM1.7 million, but only if he made an additional payment of RM190,472.40, supposedly to release the profits. "After checking with several friends, they told me I had been scammed. I then lodged a police report at the Sungai Senam police station," he said. Meanwhile, Perak MCA Public Services and Complaints Bureau chief Yuen Chan How urged the authorities to conduct a thorough investigation into the case. "In the past, syndicates would use suspicious links to download fake apps. Now, they're developing legitimate-looking apps that can be downloaded from the Apple Store or Google Play. "We also advise the public to be extremely cautious before investing. No legitimate investment scheme will ask you to make a payment just to withdraw your profits," he said. – BERNAMA
