American Senator: Trump plans new sanctions against Russia

Washington - Saba: American Senator Lindsey Graham announced that President Donald Trump believes "the time has come to pass a bill imposing new sanctions against Russia." Graham claimed that the U.S. Senate "will begin discussing the new sanctions bill against Russia in July." During an interview with ABC News on Sunday, Graham commented on Trump's stance regarding the sanctions bill, saying: "Yesterday was the first time the president [Trump] told me, while we were playing golf, that the time has come to move forward with passing a bill on new sanctions against Russia." The U.S. senator further explained the legislative plans, stating: "The day after the July recess ends (starting July 7), we [the U.S. Senate] intend to move forward with discussing the bill." Meanwhile, leaders of the 27 EU member states, meeting at the Brussels summit on June 26, agreed to extend sanctions against Russia for an additional six months, according to Western news agency reports citing diplomatic sources. The agency's report stated: "The leaders of the 27 EU member states, gathered at the Brussels summit, agreed to extend sanctions against Russia for another six months." Moscow has repeatedly emphasized its ability to adapt to the pressures caused by Western sanctions, which have been imposed and tightened over several years. Russian officials have stated that the West lacks the courage to admit the failure of its sanctions policy against Russia. Some voices within Western countries have also questioned the effectiveness of these measures. It is worth noting that the West has escalated its punitive measures against Russia over the Ukraine crisis, leading to rising electricity, fuel, food prices in Europe and the United States. Ukrainian Air Defenses Shoot Down an F-16 Fighter

Kyiv - Saba: Ukrainian parliamentarian Marianna Bezuglaya admitted that air defenses shot down an F-16 fighter jet, citing the faulty IFF system. Following reports of the death of a Ukrainian pilot flying the plane, the parliamentarian said on her Telegram channel, as reported by the Russian RT channel, "The IFF system is still not fully operational." She noted that the results of the investigation into the crash of the previous F-16 have also not been published. Previously, the Ukrainian Air Force announced the death of 26-year-old pilot Pavlo Ivanov while carrying out a combat mission on April 12, a claim also confirmed by Volodymyr Zelensky. The location and circumstances of the pilot's death have not been determined. The cause of the crash has also not been reported. On August 29, the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces acknowledged the loss of the first F-16 fighter jet transferred to Ukraine, and a special commission is investigating the causes of the incident. The Wall Street Journal had previously reported that the F-16 crashed due to pilot error. Ukrainian parliament member Marianna Bezoglyaya stated that the fighter jet was shot down by the Ukrainian Armed Forces' Patriot air defense system due to a lack of coordination between units. The exact number of F-16s supplied to Ukraine by Western countries remains unknown. The General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces has so far confirmed the loss of only one of these aircraft. Ukraine announces loss of F-16 fighter jet

Kyiv - Saba: Ukraine announced on Sunday that its air force lost another F-16 fighter jet last night and that its pilot was killed. The Ukrainian Air Force said in a statement: "Tonight, pilot First Class Colonel Maksym Ustimenko (born 1993) was killed in an F-16 crash." The statement explained that the pilot was participating in "responding to a major attack" before his aircraft sustained damage and began to lose altitude. Ustimenko was able to divert the aircraft away from a populated area but was unable to eject. Ukrainian forces lost another F-16 in similar circumstances last May, and another F-16 crashed last April amid suspicions that it was shot down by friendly fire. The Wall Streeter Journal previously reported that Ukraine shot down one of its F-16s in the summer of 2024 because Washington withheld from Kyiv a critical technology related to the Link 16 identification system, which transmits information about the aircraft's location to military personnel on the ground, enabling them to distinguish between friendly and enemy aircraft.
