Dylan Harper's mom, Maria, makes stunning appearance at 2025 NBA Draft
After the former Rutgers star was selected by the Spurs with the No. 2 pick in the 2025 NBA Draft, social media was set ablaze as Maria Harper stunned and charmed fans who saw her join Dylan and his older brother, Ron Jr., alongside ESPN's Monica McNutt for the post-selection interview.
Something that may have also surprised viewers was the fact that Harper's mom joined him for the interview, while his five-time NBA champion father, Ron Harper, stayed in the crowd.

But the newest Spur said Tuesday that his mother actually pushed him harder in basketball and that she even coached him from first grade to his senior year of high school, which was special for both of them.

'We're playing the sport we love. They're playing it, I'm coaching it. It's a family affair, and that's how pure it is in our family,' Maria told Jersey Sports Zone in April 2023.
Maria, who is Filipino, immigrated to the United States at the age of 7 and grew up in Paterson, N.J.

Maria had nothing but praise for her son in his special moment Wednesday night.
'His flat out love for the game, his determination, his humility and just his hard work day in and day out,' she noted as reasons he was able to make it this far.
Family was a consistent theme for Harper while he addressed the media before the draft, and he consistently came back to praising his mom.
'My mom always tells me, 'Keep the main thing the main thing,'' Harper said. 'Basically like, 'Go worry about basketball, we can take care of the rest.' That's really stuck with me just because it allows me to work on my craft and work on the things that really matter – which is playing the game I love every day.'

Jeff Teague quickly walked back on his baseless LeBron steroid accusations
LeBron James is set to enter his 23rd NBA season, and at 40 years old, he's still an All-Star caliber player. It's an astonishing career that spans multiple eras. But instead of choosing his favorite LeBron era, former NBA guard Jeff Teague sent a podcast discussion off the rails with a wild PED accusation about James. In the latest edition of the Club 520 Podcast, Teague was asked to choose the best version of James. And he said "Miami Heat 'Bron" without hesitation. And then to back up his argument, he went on to claim that James was using steroids. Like, out of nowhere. Teague said that once the league started testing for HGH, James suddenly had to sit out for multiple weeks with a mysterious back ailment only to come back skinnier. Teague told the story and was like, "I was in the league. I remember." Except none of that happened. The NBA didn't start testing for HGH until the 2015-16 season, and James was already back on the Cavaliers at that point. In his entire time with the Heat, LeBron never missed more than six games in a given season. LeBron did miss eight games in 2014-15 due to a back issue, but he was on Cleveland at that point. And, again, the injury predated the league's HGH testing program. Shortly after the comments went viral, Teague took to his Instagram to clarify that he was just joking. Yeah, safe to say that Teague heard from his agent or lawyer after that one. This article originally appeared on For The Win: Jeff Teague walked back on his baseless LeBron steroid accusations

Phoenix Suns bring back guard Jordan Goodwin after he's waived by Lakers
The Phoenix Suns have acquired guard Jordan Goodwin, who most recently was with the Los Angeles Lakers and formerly played for Phoenix. ESPN's Shams Charania first reported the news on July 23. Goodwin, 26, was claimed off waivers and agreed to a $2.3 million veteran minimum deal with only $25K guaranteed, and the remainder is fully protected if not waived by Jan. 7, per ESPN's NBA front office insider Bobby Marks. Goodwin was released by the Los Angeles Lakers alongside Shake Milton to bring in veteran guard Marcus Smart, the 2023 Defensive Player of the Year, signing him for their biannual exception of a two-year deal for $11 million. Goodwin fills one of the Suns' two remaining roster spots for 15 guaranteed deals, and helps with their point guard void. He originally came to the Suns from Washington in the Bradley Beal trade in June 2023. He was waived at the trade deadline in February 2023, signed with the Memphis Grizzlies on a 10-day deal, then signed with the Lakers in September 2024. Now, Goodwin replaces Beal, who was bought out by the Suns on July 16, then joined the L.A. Clippers. Support local journalism: Subscribe to today. Lionel Messi daring MLS to punish him by no-showing All-Star Game
While Major League Soccer's biggest stars will take the pitch in Austin, Texas, Lionel Messi won't be one of them. The Inter Miami star will not participate in Wednesday's MLS All-Star Game, despite being voted onto the roster, and raises an interesting conundrum for the league. By not participating in the MLS All-Star Game for any reason other than an injury, Messi is flouting league rules that would make him eligible to be suspended for one game. ISI Photos via Getty Images An MLS spokesperson did not immediately respond to a request for comment from The Post, but did tell The Athletic that the 'league office needs to speak with the club before we confirm player availability for Saturday.' Inter Miami is scheduled to face Cincinnati on Saturday in its final regular-season game before the league pauses for the Leagues Cup tournament. Advertisement Inter Miami's head coach, Javier Mascherano, had expressed a desire for Messi, and Jordi Alba, to rest instead of playing in the All-Star Game. 'The players are called up, I would like them to be able to rest but that is not my decision,' he said ahead of Miami's win over the Red Bulls last weekend. The Liga MX All-Stars will include Monterrey defender and former Real Madrid star Sergio Ramos. MLS has enforced its rule regarding players skipping the All-Star Game in the past, including against Zlatan Ibrahimović when he was a member of the LA Galaxy in 2018. Ibrahimović had sharply criticized the policy and in comments to reporters, he said that 'I come from a different world, I come from the real world.'
