TOM Cruise is developing a sequel to another of his 80s blockbuster hits, after the success of Top Gun Maverick.
With all the adrenaline, spectacular stunts, humour and heart of the first blockbuster, Top Gun Maverick also had an all-action storyline of bombs and baddies to beat Bond.

When the sequel came out, it had been 36 years since we last saw Tom Cruise slipping out of his shirt and into his aviators as test pilot Pete 'Maverick' Mitchell in the original.
And it was a great success, which is likely why the Hollywood star has now decided to develop another sequel to one of his 80s blockbuster films.
Jerry Bruckheimer, co-producer to the F1 movie, has confirmed that a sequel to Days of Thunder is in the pipeline, which will of course star Tom.
Days of Thunder is a 1990 American sports action drama film which is still beloved by NASCAR fans today.
There has been a lot of hope for a sequel, as well as speculation, after Tom, 62, uploaded a throwback photo on X to mark the 35th anniversary of working with late director Tony Scott.
Speaking about Days of Thunder 2 in an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Jerry said: 'Well, there's always new technologies. There's always new ways to do things and to see things, and Tom is such a great individual - comes up with phenomenal ideas.
'So we'll have something really exciting for an audience once we pull it together."
Former NASCAR driver Jeff Gordon has also addressed a Days of Thunder 2 being made.
The chairman of Hendrick Motorsports said: 'Let's do Days of Thunder 2, I am all for that. Tom Cruise has told me it's gonna happen, so let's make it happen.
Stars turn out for F1 The Movie premiere in London with Lewis Hamilton, Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt wowing fans
'I can't go back to driving, I am too old for that, so gonna have to be one of our four or all four of our Hendrick drivers, Alex Bowman, Chase Elliott, Kyle Larson, William Byron. When I came into NASCAR, Days of Thunder had just come out. It played a huge role in the growth of NASCAR.
'So let's bring it back."
The US actor is always pushing the limits when it comes to his work.
In May, he clambered onto the roof of the 82ft BMI Imax cinema — home to Britain's biggest screen — in a stunt to promote his latest film.
Wrapped around the building in Waterloo, South London, was a giant advert for the movie, Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning.
The 62-year-old Top Gun star was in the capital to receive an honorary British Film Institute Fellowship, the organisation's highest award.

Following the gig - which saw him perform new track Survive - Lewis confirmed he is hitting the road on a brand new tour in September. But before that, he delighted fans on Friday night when he took to the stage at BST Hyde Park Festival alongside headliner Noah Kahan. American singer Noah, 28, put on a cracking show for the crowd before bringing Lewis on for the encore. The pair then performed Noah's hit 2022 single, Northern Attitude, together. The appearance comes after Lewis spoke out about his Glastonbury performance, which came two years after his final performance at the festival before stepping away from the spotlight. In a heart-warming video posted on his social media, he revealed his true feelings surrounding the burn-out. Speaking from the heart, he told fans: "One word to describe how I'm feeling now is... spectacular." Looking back over his Glastonbury experience in 2023, he admitted: "This should be like, a really happy moment, and it isn't. "I'm like, achieving my dream here. If there was a film about being a singer, and starting as a kid, and they'd be like, Oh, I'd love to be a singer one day and perform in front people, I've done it. Lewis Capaldi breaks silence on emotional Glastonbury return after taking a break from music "I've got to the end of the film and it's not how I thought it was going to be. "And all these people are singing at me and I feel 1,000 miles away there, and I watch it back and actually feel sad. "Second song in, I was probably just thinking, this has to be it, like... I can't keep doing this to myself. "As far as I was concerned, it was like, I'm done. I didn't take a break to just focus on getting better. "I took a break because I needed a break and to sort of release the pressure valve a little bit." Thank you so much for still being here." Lewis Capaldi Within the montage, Lewis added pictures and home-filmed clips of himself performing as a youngster, full of hopes and dreams. He captioned the tear-jerking montage: "Been mad looking back at it all. Thank you so much for still being here."

The song - their third single - was hailed as the "greatest song of all time" in 2006. Two years after it was released, Oasis took to the stage in Manchester, in 1996. During the gig, they played a slideshow of famous musicians who had passed away, of whom Oasis held close to the heart. These included Elvis Presley, Jimi Hendrix, and Sid Vicious. Their faces were displayed behind the band, and concluded with a picture of John Lennon. In 2017, Liam performed the song with Coldplay's Chris Martin at the One Love Manchester concert, held for the victims of the Manchester Bombing. And in 2022, Liam dedicated a performance of the song to Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins, who died the day before. It comes as deafening applause rang out across the Principality Stadium as a sell-out crowd of 74,500 fans watched the brothers blast out iconic hits on the tour's opening night. The track F****n' in the Bushes played in the background as newspaper headlines and tweets flashed up on the big screens before the band walked onto the Principality Stadium stage. Noel, 58, in a denim shirt, and Liam, 52, sporting his iconic parka jacket, then opened with their 1995 track Hello. During an emotional rendition of Live Forever towards the end of the set, the band led a tribute to Liverpool player Diogo Jota, who tragically died yesterday. Famous names including Eastenders star Danny Dyer, actress Vicky McClure and one direction star Louis Tomlinson were in attendance for the performance. Liam shouted "it's good to be back" before going into the next song Acquiesce, striking a familiar pose with his hands behind his back. 13 Noel had some time alone on stage, performing three songs solo Credit: Getty 13 Liam has whipped out his tambourine several times Credit: Reuters 13 The crowds have gone wild for the epic reunion Credit: Getty 13 A black and white picture of the brothers was shared on Instagram from back stage Credit: Instagram Before their third song, (What's the story) Morning Glory? Liam said: 'Hello people, it's been too long.' He then brought out his iconic tambourine as the band performed Some Might Say. At a number of points during the set, Noel and Liam were seen affectionately smiling and nodding at one another. Before going into Cigarettes & Alcohol, Liam told fans to "jump up and down when the tune starts". The frenzy literally caused the floor to shake as the band went into Fade Away, Supersonic and Roll With It. Revellers sang along word-for-word as Noel took the mic to belt out hits Talk Tonight, Half The World Away and Little By Little. As Liam took a three-song break, Noel made a jibe about rising ticket prices and joked "it's just gone up". Swaggering back out on stage, Liam asked the crowd: "How we getting on then? You're all looking good." He returned to be with his older sibling for Do You Know What I Mean. Rounding off the mellow segment, the duo continued with Stand By Me and Cast No Shadow. Joking again about ticket prices, before playing Slide Away, Liam asked: 'You're all having a good time yeah? 'Was it worth the £40,000 you paid for a ticket?' The party was kickstarted in the streets of Cardiff long before the brothers took to the stage for the first time in 16 years tonight. Gates officially opened at 5pm and tens of thousands of fans poured into the arena to bag a prime spot. Oasis, who clocked up over 70 million record sales worldwide after forming in Manchester in 1991, split in 2009 following a fall out between the brothers. Following huge shows here tonight and tomorrow, Oasis will take a short break before kicking off their run of shows at Heaton Park in Manchester on July 11. The brothers are set to bank more than £50million through endorsements, a US tour and merchandise. When they announced their reunion last year, their 1994 breakthrough album Definitely Maybe hit the No1 spot in the charts. Live Forever and Don't Look Back In Anger also re-entered the Top Ten singles chart as excited fans reminisced with old favourites. Tom Parker chose to play Oasis' Live Forever as he passed away surrounded by his The Wanted bandmates and friends and family in 2022. The singer, 33, sadly died after he was diagnosed with "inoperable" glioblastoma in October 2020. Tom's wife Kelsey, who shares daughter Aurelia, two, and one-year-old son Bodhi, confirmed his passing in a heartbreaking statement on Instagram. During his last moments, the singer had the rock band's 1994 hit from their debut album Definitely Maybe playing out loud. A close friend told The Sun: "You might have thought Tom would opt for something by The Wanted but Oasis' Live Forever sums him up perfectly - he was a rockstar and that's how he wants to be remembered. "It's a real anthem to strength and defiance and some of the lyrics really speak to his struggle. "Like the track says, Tom really will live forever in his children, his fans and his music." The singer had everyone he loved around him in his final moments, including his family, closest friends and bandmates Siva Kaneswaran, Jay McGuiness, Max George and Nathan Sykes. Tom was given just 18 months to live after he was diagnosed with a terminal brain tumour in 2020. It comes after touching pictures shared by the Liverpool Football Club showed an emotional Henderson mourning the loss of his former teammate Jota outside the Anfield Stadium earlier today. The ex-Liverpool skipper is one of the many footie stars to have mourned the loss. Henderson and Jota played together at Liverpool between September 2020 and June 2023. Meanwhile, Jota's grieving wife was consoled by relatives amid emotional scenes at his funeral chapel today. Rute Cardoso - who married the Liverpool ace just 11 days earlier - arrived at Sao Cosme Chapel in his home town of Gondomar near Porto, northern Portugal, early this morning. Rute, the 28-year-old mum of the striker's three young children, returned with her partner's body after his car smash death in Spain alongside his footballer brother Andre Silva, 25. Jota, 28, died instantly when his hired acid green £210,000 Lamborghini supercar suffered a suspected tyre blowout and crashed in a fireball on the A52 highway in Zamora province, northern Spain. The brothers were killed instantly in the horror en route to the Spanish port city of Santander to catch a ferry to the UK after the Portugal star was urged not to travel by plane following lung surgery. Their distraught mother Isabel and their grandfather were also spotted at the chapel this morning. Tearful family members were seen hugging each other before walking together towards the chapel. 13 Liam and Noel Gallagher perform on stage in Munich on February 27, 2009 Credit: Getty 13 Fans mourn Jota at Anfield Stadium in Liverpool Credit: SWNS 13
