At least nine people dead according to local media following shooting at a school in Austrian city Graz
A major police operation is underway, with local newspaper Kronen Zeitung reporting at least nine deaths.
The attack occurred shortly before 10am on Tuesday morning, local time.
Police later fronted the media, confirming there had been "several deaths" in the incident but did not confirm the exact number.
Local Mayor Elke Kahr told the Austrian Press Agency the suspected gunman is among the casualties in the "terrible tragedy".
Mayor Kahr also said one adult was among the dead as well as seven students.
A police spokesman told local media that he was a student at the Dreierschützengasse high school, where the attack took place.
Austrian police said in a statement on X the situation was "secure" and that "no further danger is expected".
"Both students and parents are supported by the crisis intervention team," they posted.
Students were evacuated from the school and a meeting point was set up for their parents at the ASKÖ Stadium.
A heavy police presence has been at the scene over the past couple of hours since the attack, including a police helicopter.
