New Delhi: One of Coca-Cola's top bottling partners in India, Kandhari Global Beverages, has acquired Wave Beverages' bottling operations for the American soft-drinks maker for about ₹1,000 crore, people directly aware of the matter said.Kandhari Global managing director Varinder Pal Singh Kandhari confirmed the transaction that will help his company take over Wave Beverages' bottling territories in parts of Punjab and Himachal Pradesh as it expands operations in the northern and western markets. He declined to comment on the financial terms. The deal comes five months after Kandhari Global bought Coca-Cola's North Gujarat bottling operations for ₹2,000 crore. That bottling business was acquired from Coca-Cola's own bottling company Hindustan Coca-Cola Beverages (HCCB). Wave Beverages is an independent bottler for Coca-Cola and was part of the Noida-based Wave Group. "The move consolidates Coca-Cola's independent bottling structure ... It also marks the near-exit of the diversified Wave Global from Coca-Cola's bottling business," one of the people said. Coca-Cola sold a 40% stake in HCCB to the Jubilant Bhartia Group for ₹12,500 crore ($1.47 billion) under a deal announced in December last year. The Atlanta-based beverages maker has 15 manufacturing plants. The remaining bottling operations are split among 10 independent franchise partners such as Kandhari Global Beverages, Moon Beverages and SLMG Beverages. Coca-Cola sells concentrate to the bottlers who produce the beverages and distribute them.
Kandhari Global has existing bottling operations in Jammu & Kashmir, Haryana, most of Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan, North Gujarat and parts of Delhi."This (acquisition) makes us (one of) Coca-Cola's top-two independent bottling partners. In future, we may explore expanding our operations globally, which will depend on Coca-Cola's requirements," Kandhari told ET.India is Coca-Cola's fifth largest market by volume sales, and the company leads the soft drink market, industry sources said citing data from market research firm NielsenIQ. The April-June quarter, the most crucial for soft-drink sales in India as it is the peak summer season, has been underwhelming this year for Coca-Cola and other beverage makers as temperatures remained relatively cooler due to unseasonal rains."This summer has been challenging on account of the rains. But there is enough bandwidth with pricing, packs and distribution strategies to continue with strong growth for the full year," Kandhari said.A report from think tank ICRIER estimated India's beverages industry, including carbonated soft drinks, juices and water, to be ₹67,000 crore in sales in 2024. It projected the market to reach ₹1.47 lakh crore by 2030.While the report's findings suggest the growth potential of the market, competition has also intensified with the entry of Reliance Consumer Products-owned Campa.

Allianz Life confirms data breach affecting majority of 1.4M US customers
MINNEOLIS — Hackers gained access to personal data on the majority of the 1.4 million customers of Allianz Life Insurance Company of North America, the company confirmed Saturday. Minneapolis-based Allianz Life, a subsidiary of Munich, Germany-based Allianz SE, said the data breach happened on July 16 when a 'malicious threat actor' gained access to a third-party, cloud-based system used by the company. 'The threat actor was able to obtain personally identifiable data related to the majority of Allianz Life's customers, financial professionals, and select Allianz Life employees, using a social engineering technique,' Allianz Life said in a statement. "We took immediate action to contain and mitigate the issue and notified the FBI." The company said its own systems were not accessed, just the third-party's platform. Allianz Life said its investigation is ongoing and that the company has begun reaching out to the impacted individuals. It said the incident involves only Allianz Life in the U.S., not other Allianz corporate entities. In the case of data breaches, a 'social engineering technique' usually involves using trickery to gain access. Spokesman Brett Weinberg said he couldn't provide details because they are still investigating. Allianz Life also reported the breach to multiple other authorities, including the Maine Attorney General's Office. A filing on the agency's website said the company discovered the breach the day after it happened, and that it will be offering those affected 24 months of identity theft protection and credit monitoring. Allianz Life was known as North American Life and Casualty until it was acquired by German conglomerate Allianz SE in 1979 and changed its name to Allianz Life Insurance Company of North America. It has nearly 2,000 employees in U.S., with the majority working in Minnesota, according to its website. It is one of five North American subsidiaries of the Munich-based global financial services group Allianz SE, which says it serves more than 125 million customers worldwide. What is US citizenship test? What changes Trump administration is bringing to make it tougher
USCIS new director said the present US citizenship is easy and can be memorized. The US citizenship test, officially known as the Naturalization test, is an examination that an applicant has to take to become a naturalized American citizen. This test is not for green card holders unless they are applying for citizenship. The new director of the United States Citizenship and Immigration Service said the existing test is too easy and the answers can be memorized. The Donald Trump administration is planning to bring back the 2020 version of the test. US Citizenship test First, the applicants have to submit Form N-400 seeking for naturalization. They need to pass a background check and meet residency and other requirements. Then there have to attend an interview where they take two tests: English and a civic test. In the civic test, there are 100 questions; the officer asks the applicant 10 and the applicant must answer at least six correctly. During the first term of Donald Trump, there was a new rule for a very brief time where there are 128 questions; applicants are asked 20 and they must get at least 12 right. The USCIS is planning to bring back some version of this type of test. Before 2008, the test was random but the Bush administration introduced the 6 out of 10 questions benchmark. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Angola: New Senior Homes (Prices May Surprise You) Senior Apartments | Search Ads Search Now Undo USCIS director said the present version is not really "comforting with the spirit of the law". Sweeping H-1B changes The development regarding the US citizenship test comes as the Department of Homeland Security proposed sweeping changes for the H-1B visa program that allows US companies to hire foreign workers. According to the proposed changes, H-1B will not be for entry-level workers. It will be only for high-skilled jobs for which there will higher salary. If this becomes implemented, US graduates will not lose out jobs in the entry level and tech companies will not be able to hire foreign workers at a lower wage.
