4 students held for stabbing principal in Hisar
According to police, the accused boys—aged 15 and 16—are students of Kartar Memorial Senior Secondary School in Bass village, located in Hansi subdivision, about 26 km from Hisar. They attacked principal Jagbir Pannu, a resident of Puthi Saman village, with knives during his morning rounds on Thursday.
Hansi superintendent of police (SP) Amit Yashvardhan said the boys were angry over repeated scoldings from the principal. They were caught on Friday from a bus stand in Mundhal village in Bhiwani district, around 15 km from the school.
'All four were in school uniform at the time of arrest. They were upset because the principal often asked them to trim their hair, keep their shirts tucked in, and avoid drug use. He had earlier warned them not to carry banned items in their school bags. Believing he held a personal grudge, they planned the attack. Two carried out the stabbing, while the other two were involved in the conspiracy,' he said.
Police said the accused took responsibility for the attack and posted it to social media and even threatened to harm Pannu's son next if they were not paid ₹10 lakh. Authorities said the boys would be sent to a safe house by evening.
Teachers, speaking on condition of anonymity, said Pannu had warned the students multiple times about smoking and keeping untrimmed hair, but they ignored his instructions.
'After stabbing the principal, the boys left their school bags in the classroom. A mobile phone and two energy drinks were found in one of the bags,' a police officer added.
School body demands 'safety law' after principal's murder in Hisar, plans statewide protests
A day after a school principal was allegedly murdered by a group of students in Hisar, the National Independent Schools Alliance (NISA) strongly condemned the incident and called for the enactment of a 'school safety law' to protect teachers and school administrators in Haryana.
In response to the shocking incident, NISA announced statewide protests to press for their demand. The alliance's national president, Kulbhushan Sharma, said the murder has deeply shaken the education community, especially since it occurred on the day of Guru Purnima, a festival dedicated to teachers.
'It is disheartening that neither the state government nor opposition leaders have expressed any condolences over such a grave tragedy,' Sharma said. 'Teachers across the state are now gripped by fear. How can we carry out our duties in such an environment?'
As a mark of protest, member schools of the alliance observed a 'Black Day' by wearing black armbands.
He added that NISA plans to organise demonstrations in every district and submit memorandums to the chief minister through respective deputy commissioners and superintendents of police. The key demand is the implementation of a school safety law to ensure a secure teaching environment.
'Providing a safe space for educators is essential if we want schools to continue contributing meaningfully to the progress of the state and the nation,' Sharma stated.

'Babydoll Archi' mystery solved: Who is Pratim Bora? Man behind viral AI hoax arrested for targeting his ex-partner, Archita Phukan
As the mystery around Archita Phukan, a.k.a. 'Babydoll Archi,' an artificial intelligence (AI)-generated creation, grew, a man was arrested in Assam's Dibrugarh on Saturday evening, July 12, for creating a fake social media profile of influencer Archita Phukan and posting her morphed pictures, the police stated on Sunday, reports HT. The accused has been identified as Pratim Bora, who is a former partner of Phukan. According to the police, Bora allegedly uploaded the objectionable content to defame and harass the woman. Archita Phukan, a.k.a. 'Babydoll Archi,' gained massive attention with the 'Dame Un Grrr' reel on her Instagram page named under her. Following this, another picture was posted on the profile featuring 'Babydoll Archi' and American adult star Kendra Lust, which almost broke the internet. However, later, there were claims made by an Instagram page called 'Just Assam Things' that stated Phukan is not a real person; it is an AI creation. Since then, eyebrows have been raised on the Instagram handle. Who is Pratim Bora, Archi Phukan's ex-partner? Pratim Bora is a resident of Tinsukia who has been arrested for operating the fake profile of Archi Phukan for several weeks. The accused was arrested in his hometown following a complaint lodged by Phukan's brother, as per the police officials. The report further revealed that Phukan, who is famously known as 'Babydoll Archi,' said that her morphed images with US adult film star Kendra Lust were shared from the fake account. His phone and laptop have been seized and sent for forensic examination,' a cybercrime officer noted. As per the officials, Bora admitted to sourcing the images from her old social media posts and using them to edit. They also stated that during the interrogation, the accused said that he created the fake account out of anger and emotional frustration following the end of his relationship with the woman. Gurugram steps up multi-agency efforts for safe Kanwar Yatra
With the annual Kanwar Yatra underway, the Gurugram administration and police have intensified efforts to ensure the safe and smooth passage of thousands of devotees—Kanwariyas—walking from Haridwar to their hometowns in South Haryana and Rajasthan. The yatra, which began on July 11 and concludes on July 23, is expected to see heavy footfall across the district. Camp organisers, summoned on July 11, were instructed to seek prior permissions and comply strictly with regulations. (HT Archive) To coordinate preparations, Gurugram police commissioner Vikas Arora (IPS) chaired a high-level meeting with all deputy commissioners of Police, assistant commissioners, SHOs, and outpost in-charges. Directives were issued to maintain law and order, safeguard devotees, and ensure uninterrupted movement across Kanwar routes, officials said. 'Gurugram Police has made all necessary arrangements to facilitate the journey of Kanwariyas,' the Commissioner said. Special police deployment has been made at key intersections, Kanwar camps, and sensitive points, while dedicated pedestrian lanes—marked with ropes and cones—have been set up along key routes such as Sarhaul Border to Kherki Toll, Rajiv Chowk to Sohna Road, and Pataudi Road. Reflective tape is being installed for night-time safety. For the first time, drone surveillance will be used to monitor camps and pilgrim movement in real time. Photographers have also been deployed for documentation and supervision. Plainclothes officers will be stationed at strategic locations to maintain peace. Camps must be set up at a safe distance from roads, maintain hygiene to prevent infections, and install CCTV cameras at both the camp and food distribution areas. Loudspeakers require administrative approval, and inappropriate conduct toward devotees will invite legal action. 'Devotees from neighbouring states pass through Gurugram on foot. It is crucial to make robust arrangements and ensure traffic diversions wherever required,' said Deputy Commissioner Ajay Kumar, who chaired a separate inter-departmental meeting to review logistics, sanitation, and health support. Ambulances have been stationed along the Kanwar routes, while the municipal corporation has been tasked with maintaining cleanliness at more than 100 camp locations across the district. Camp footage must be preserved for at least 15 days, officials said. To address traffic challenges during the monsoon and the yatra, 40 new personnel have joined Gurugram traffic police. DCP (Traffic) Rajesh Mohan briefed them on handling congestion and assisting pilgrims with Gangajal at crossings. 'Extra vigilance is crucial during the rains, which often cause vehicle breakdowns,' he said. The district administration has called for close coordination across departments to ensure the pilgrimage remains peaceful and well-managed.
