Paris (AFP)Football legend Michel Platini disturbed a burglar at his villa in the south of France on Friday, a source close to the police investigation told AFP.Platini, 70, heard a noise in the garden of the property in Cassis early in the morning and came face to face with a man in a black mask, who fled with several trophies and medals, the source said.Platini played 72 times for France and won the Ballon d'Or award for the world's top player three years in a row from 1983 to 1985.He led France to the semi-finals of the 1982 and 1986 World Cup.
He was UEFA president from 2007 to 2016 and later became embroiled in a financial scandal involving then-FIFA president Sepp Blatter, but was acquitted in March this year.

UN says 1,373 killed while waiting for aid in Gaza since late May
The UN human rights office said on Friday that 1,373 Palestinians have been killed while waiting for aid in the shortage-stricken Gaza Strip since late May, most of them by the Israeli military. "In total, since 27 May, at least 1,373 Palestinians have been killed while seeking food; 859 in the vicinity of (US- and Israeli-backed Gaza Humanitarian Foundation) sites and 514 along the routes of food convoys," the UN agency's office for the Palestinian territories said in a statement. "Most of these killings were committed by the Israeli military," it added. Gaza's civil defence agency said 11 people were killed by Israeli gunfire and air strikes on Friday, including two who were waiting near an aid distribution site inside the Palestinian territory. Israel's defence ministry body overseeing civil affairs in the Palestinian territories, COGAT, said Friday that more than 200 trucks of aid had been collected and distributed by the UN and international organisations the previous day. The UN says Gaza requires at least 500 trucks of aid per day. COGAT added that four tankers of fuel for the UN had entered the Palestinian territory, and that 43 pallets of aid were airdropped in cooperation with the United Arab Emirates, Egypt and Jordan. UAE, Pakistan and Afghanistan to play T20 tri-series in Sharjah
Pakistan, Afghanistan and the United Arab Emirates will participate in a tri-series of Twenty20 international matches to tune up for next month's Asia Cup followed by the World Cup next year. "The tri-series will feature teams from Pakistan, Afghanistan and the UAE from Aug.29 to Sep.7 at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium," the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) said on Friday. The T20I tournament will serve as a launching pad for the teams to prepare for the Asian Cricket Council's T20 Asia Cup, scheduled to take place in the UAE from September 9 to 28, it added. India and Sri Lanka will co-host the Twenty20 World Cup in February-March next year. The opening match of the tri-series tournament will be played between Afghanistan and Pakistan on August 29. Each team will play the others twice, giving all sides at least four matches before the top two teams qualify for the final, scheduled on September 7.
