Toronto police to announce results of tow truck wiretapping investigation

Toronto Star18-06-2025

Toronto police are set to announce the results of a tow truck wiretapping investigation Wednesday afternoon after the city was hit by a string of towing related violence in the spring that included one of the worst mass shootings in Toronto's history.
The outcome of 'Project Yankee' will be unveiled in a news conference at Toronto police headquarters and will be livestreamed on YouTube at 1 p.m.
Police around the GTA have recently made sweeping arrests related to the 'tow truck turf wars' that included a combined 200 charges laid against 11 people earlier in June. The arrests were made in connection to the mass shooting at Piper Arms Pub on March 7 and other incidents spanning from March 1 to May 26.

More towing related arrests were announced on Monday with 18 people facing a combined 97 charges stemming from the major Peel police operation dubbed 'Project Outsource.' Officers seized $4.2 million in assets, including 18 tow trucks, five stolen vehicles, six firearms, 586 rounds of ammunition and various weapons.
Toronto police say they will be joined on Thursday by officers from Durham Regional Police Service, York Regional Police, and the Ontario Provincial Police.
