Elon Musk's new ‘America party' is ‘hurting' his company; Tesla Bull Dan Ives says, ‘Very simply…'

Time of India6 hours ago
Tesla
stock fell approximately 7% after the EV-making company's CEO, Elon Musk, announced his plans to form a new political party. This decline cost the company 68 billion in a day to become the most significant single-day drop since June 5, when it experienced a 14% decrease during Musk's public dispute with US President Donald Trump. Last week, Musk stated that the proposed party would be named the 'America Party.' He suggested it could focus on securing 'just 2 or 3 Senate seats and 8 to 10 House districts,' aiming to serve as a deciding vote on contentious legislation and ensure it aligns with "the true will of the people."

In a recently published research note by Tesla bull Dan Ives (seen by CBS MoneyWatch), the investor explained:
'Very simply, Musk diving deeper into politics and now trying to take on the Beltway establishment is exactly the opposite direction that Tesla investors/shareholders want him to take during this crucial period for the Tesla story. While the core Musk supporters will back Musk at every turn, no matter what, there is a broader sense of exhaustion from many Tesla investors that Musk keeps heading down the political track.'
Musk's decision to launch the America Party comes at a challenging moment for Tesla. The company's electric vehicle sales dropped by over 13% between April and June compared to the same period last year.

In Europe, sales plunged nearly 50% in April, despite overall growth in the region's electric vehicle market, as per data released in May by the European Automobile Manufacturers' Association.
Musk's involvement in politics has previously raised concerns among investors. Earlier this year, his close work with the Trump administration on the 'Department of Government Efficiency' (DOGE) was seen by some as potentially detrimental to Tesla's brand image. He distanced himself from DOGE in May, a move that had a positive impact on Tesla's stock. However, his renewed involvement in politics is now causing concern among investors.

Donald Trump yet again dismisses Elon Musk's ‘America Party', says, ‘it will help us'

US President Donald Trump brushed off tech billionaire Elon Musk's new political party, suggesting it would actually boost his own campaign—just two days after dismissing the idea as 'ridiculous.' 'I think it will help us. It will probably help,' Trump said on July 7 when asked about Musk's formation of the 'America Party,' a political movement Musk says will challenge both Republicans and Democrats. 'Third parties have always been good for me. I don't know about Republicans, but for me,' added Trump. Speaking to reporters on July 7, Trump took direct aim at Musk's announcement, dismissing the concept outright. 'I think it's ridiculous to start a third party. We have a tremendous success with the Republican Party. The Democrats have lost their way, but it's always been a two-party system,' Trump said. 'Starting a third party just adds to confusion.' He added, 'It really seems to have been developed for two parties. Third parties have never worked, so he can have fun with it, but I think it's ridiculous.' Later, Trump amplified his criticism on his Truth Social platform, writing that Musk had gone 'completely off the rails.' 'I'm saddened to watch Elon Musk go completely 'off the rails', essentially becoming a TRAIN WRECK over the past five weeks,' Trump posted, while again defending the two-party system as the only viable political structure in the US. Musk, who owns the social media platform X, fired back with a mocking response to Trump's Truth Social comments: 'What's Truth Social?" Musk unveiled his 'America Party' on July 5, citing fierce opposition to Trump's $5 trillion tax and spending bill, which includes a major debt ceiling hike and rollbacks of climate-related incentives. 'When it comes to bankrupting our country with waste & graft, we live in a one-party system, not a democracy,' Musk wrote on X. He added: 'Today, the America Party is formed to give you back your freedom.' Although still unofficial, Musk indicated that the new party would focus on unseating GOP lawmakers who voted for Trump's sweeping fiscal package. A poll posted by Musk on July 4 showed 65% of more than 1.2 million respondents supporting the creation of a third party. 'By a factor of 2 to 1, you want a new political party and you shall have it!' Musk wrote. Trump suggested that Musk's motivation may stem from specific provisions in the spending bill. 'He's probably upset because the Bill eliminates the ridiculous Electric Vehicle (EV) Mandate, which would have forced everyone to buy an Electric Car in a short period of time,' Trump said.

Take your learner's driving licence test from home in Gujarat

Ahmedabad: The faceless system that enables people to appear for learner's driving licence test from the comfort of their homes or offices will be implemented in Gujarat from Monday. State govt transport department officials said that applicants with an Aadhaar card linked to their mobile numbers will not need to visit regional transport offices or authorised centres for the online test. The move comes after extensive testing, officials said. The current system of going to polytechnics or ITIs will continue. Officials stated that the RTO will currently continue to conduct the test at the centres. However, it may later discontinue this depending on the number of people who prefer to take the test in person. Officials stated that biometrics, specifically face recognition, will be conducted using Aadhaar card data. The system will not capture voice, so answers dictated to the system will not be detected, said officials. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like People Aged 50-85 With No Life Insurance Could Get This Reassured Get Quote Undo Officials noted that in 2024, the govt brought down the pass limit. Earlier, a candidate was required to answer 11 questions out of 15 correctly. Now, correct answers to nine questions are enough to clear the test. According to officials, 19 states have already implemented the system, but Gujarat was testing the system to ensure it was foolproof. Officials said the system was to be implemented from Jan this year, but the officials delayed the implementation. They further mentioned that the move will reduce the rush at RTOs, polytechnics, and ITIs, said senior officials. "Before appearing for the test, candidates will have to watch online videos on road safety. Those correctly answering 60% of the questions can print a learner's licence on their own," the official explained. Those failing can attempt the test again in a similar manner following the rules. The officials said that once the applicant verifies their Aadhaar, their details, including name, address, and date of birth, will be fetched if added, and then they will have to fill in the remaining details. However, for faceless applications, submissions will have to be made under the section 'Submit via Aadhaar Authentication'.

HC questions prolonged detention in NE riots case

New Delhi: Delhi High Court on Tuesday wondered how long the prosecution can oppose bail for accused persons jailed in connection with the Feb 2020 riots that rocked northeast Delhi. During the hearing of one such case, the court asked Delhi Police how long the accused people could be kept in jail, after highlighting the passage of five years and the fact that arguments on charge were still not concluded in the terror case related to the 2020 riots. A bench of Justices Subramonium Prasad and Harish Vaidyanathan Shankar posed the question to Delhi Police during the hearing of the bail application of Tasleem Ahmed, accused in a case related to an alleged larger conspiracy in the riots, lodged under the stringent Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA). Ahmed, the owner of a coaching centre, is accused of being part of the larger conspiracy case in relation to the riots. In matters like this, 700 witnesses, how much time can a person be kept inside?" the bench observed, pointing out the delay the trial is likely to take. The court made the query after the accused's advocate, Mehmood Pracha, raised the issue of delay in the proceedings in the case. Pracha said he won't be making submissions on the case's merit but would seek relief on the ground of parity in relation to the delay in trial. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like One plan. "He (Ahmed) was arrested on June 24, 2020… I have already spent five years (in jail)," Pracha argued, seeking urgent relief. He claimed his client never caused a delay in the case proceedings. Special public prosecutor Amit Prasad opposed the submission, arguing that the prosecution cannot be blamed for the delay in trial as there were several occasions when the matter was adjourned at the accused persons' request. Pracha went ahead to confine his argument to the delay in trial. The court will continue to hear arguments on July 9. The violence in northeast Delhi in Feb 2020 left at least 53 people dead and around 700 injured.
