Ben Krikke played with the Hawkeyes during the 2023-24 season after spending four years at Valparaiso. He played in 34 games as a Hawk, averaging 13.8 points and 4.8 rebounds per game, while shooting 54.7% from the field. Following his time with the Hawkeyes, Krikke spent a season playing in Canada with the Edmonton Stingers and played last season in Spain with Club Ourense Baloncesto. He averaged 11.5 points and four rebounds per game last year in Spain.
Krikke returned to the States to play in a huge offseason tournament. He joined the Valparaiso alumni team, Shield 219, in "The Basketball Tournament".
What is "The Basketball Tournament"
The TBT, as it's affectionately known, is a 64-team tournament featuring various college alumni teams. Schools like Penn State, Indiana, and Syracuse, among others, have alumni teams that play in the tournament. It started in 2014, and close to 600 games have been played across those ten years. The tournament has since partnered with ESPN for coverage and has paid out over $13 million in prize money.
How did Krikke and Shield 219 perform?
Valparaiso's team, Shield 219, was back in the tournament this year after losing to Assembly Ball, Indiana's alumni team, last year. Unfortunately for Krikke and Shield 219, their run in the tournament came to an end in the first round with a 77-69 defeat to All Good Dawgs, the Butler alumni team. Krikke had a massive game, scoring 19 points and hauling in an impressive 16 rebounds in the loss. He was 9-15 from the field and 1-2 from behind the arc.

Former Colorado standout receiver signs rookie contract with Green Bay Packers
Former Colorado Buffaloes wide receiver Will Sheppard is reportedly signing with the Green Bay Packers. NFL Insider Jordan Schultz reported the news, which comes after Sheppard failed his physical with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers after going undrafted in the 2025 NFL draft. He was released in early May and now has found a new NFL home in Green Bay. The setback didn't discourage Sheppard, who remained in shape, attending tryouts and is now set for his first NFL training camp with the Packers. Sheppard brings a unique skillset to the table at 6-foot-2, 203 pounds. At Colorado's pro day, he showcased elite athleticism, recording a 4.54-second 40-yard dash and an impressive 40.5-inch vertical leap. During his time at Colorado, he showed he can be a tenacious red-zone threat and make contested catches. Playing in an explosive Colorado passing attack, alongside Travis Hunter and Shedeur Sanders, Sheppard caught 48 passes for 621 yards and six touchdowns in his lone season in Boulder. Green Bay's addition of Sheppard is surprising considering the Packers are loaded at wide receiver with Jayden Reed, Christian Watson, Romeo Doubs, Matthew Golden, Mecole Hardman and Dontayvion Wicks all competing for a roster spot. The Big Ten Preseason Media Poll is live, and the Iowa Hawkeyes are in a rather friendly spot for their projected finishing order in 2025. Iowa sits just outside the top tier of teams in the Big Ten within striking distance of blossoming into a nice surprise this season. Entering 2025, the media have projected the Iowa Hawkeyes to finish No. 7 in the Big Ten. The spot comes just after the usual suspects as the teams before them consist of Penn State, Ohio State, Oregon, Illinois, Michigan, and Indiana, in order. With at least three of those teams likely destined for the College Football Playoff, if previous history tells us anything, the Hawkeyes are in that next group of teams vying to steal a bid. "Kirk Ferentz has been the model of consistency in the Big Ten throughout his time with Iowa. But right now, they're projected to finish just above the middle of the pack. Can it be better? Sure.
