SOUTH SAN FRANSCISCO, Calif., June 02, 2025 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- CERo Therapeutics Holdings, Inc., (Nasdaq: CERO) ('CERo' or the 'Company') an innovative immunotherapy company seeking to advance the next generation of engineered T cell therapeutics that deploy phagocytic (i.e., target-cell eating) mechanisms alongside the array of built-in target cell destroying mechanisms used by T cells, announces two previously announced U.S. patent applications have been granted by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), and one European patent application has been allowed by the European Patent Office, all of which significantly expand the Company's intellectual property portfolio.
The USPTO granted U.S. Patent No. 12,291,557, titled, 'CHIMERIC TIM4 RECEPTORS AND USES THEREOF' on May 6, 2025. The granted claims cover certain design aspects of CER-1236, the Company's lead compound. This patent provides composition of matter protection for a chimeric TIM4 receptor comprising a TIM4 binding domain and canonical T cell signaling domains.
Additionally, the European Patent Office has allowed European Patent Application No. 1882166.7 titled, 'CHIMERIC ENGULFMENT RECEPTOR MOLECULES AND METHODS OF USE' on May 16, 2025. The allowed claims encompass a chimeric engulfment receptor comprising a TIM4 binding domain and TLR2 signaling domain. The allowance of this European patent application expands protection of additional design aspects of CER-1236, which have already been granted in the U.S., Japan, and China.
Finally, the USPTO granted U.S. Patent No. 12,303,551, titled, 'CELLULAR IMMUNOTHERAPY COMPOSITIONS AND USES THEREOF,' on May 20, 2025. This patent provides coverage for combination cellular immunotherapy compositions and methods of use for CER-1236. The patent covers combination of a chimeric engulfment receptor CD4 + T cell (CD4 + CER-T cell) with a chimeric antigen receptor CD8 + T cell (CD8 + CAR-T cell) or T cell receptor CD8 + T cell (CD8 + TCR-T cell), and their use to treat cancer. This type of combination therapy could be an exciting avenue to complement the CER-T cell technology with other powerful anti-cancer therapies. CERo's intellectual property portfolio now includes 9 total patent families with protection out to 2042 in the United States.
With these additional granted patents and allowed application, CER-1236 and its platform technology is supported by 18 total issued patents and allowed patent application internationally.
Chris Ehrlich, CERo Therapeutics CEO, commented, 'We continue to aggressively expand our intellectual property portfolio, as it ensures CERo's success in the market. These patents protect the core innovations of the CER-T technology that differentiate it from other cell therapies and demonstrate the true novelty of our design . We continue to seek a robust range of patents across multiple geographies that cover this technology in general, and CER-1236 in particular. The appreciation of the novelty of the CER-T technology by the patent offices validates the innovation and therapeutic potential of this approach, and we believe that we will continue to grow the portfolio. In the near term, we anticipate updates on our clinical trial progress in AML, and the announcement of initiating human trials to treat ovarian and non-small cell lung cancers.'
About CERo Therapeutics Holdings, Inc.
CERo is an innovative immunotherapy company advancing the development of next generation engineered T cell therapeutics for the treatment of cancer. Its proprietary approach to T cell engineering, which enables it to integrate certain desirable characteristics of both innate and adaptive immunity into a single therapeutic construct, is designed to engage the body's full immune repertoire to achieve optimized cancer therapy. This novel cellular immunotherapy platform is expected to redirect patient-derived T cells to eliminate tumors by building in engulfment pathways that employ phagocytic mechanisms to destroy cancer cells, creating what CERo refers to as Chimeric Engulfment Receptor T cells ('CER-T'). CERo believes the differentiated activity of CER-T cells will afford them greater therapeutic application than currently approved chimeric antigen receptor ('CAR-T') cell therapy, as the use of CER-T may potentially span both hematological malignancies and solid tumors. CERo has commenced clinical trials for its lead product candidate CER-1236 for hematological malignancies.

Marshall's, T.J. Maxx CEO shares key news for #MarshallFinds fans

Marshalls and T.J. Maxx have semi-cult followings. The companies more or less created the treasure hunt model which drives customers to stores even when they don't need something. My wife and son will go to Marshalls simply to see if the local store has a good deal on a designer brand. They might go there with an idea in mind, like "I need a few more nice shirts," or "I could use a new dress for that event in a few months," but mostly they go as entertainment. Related: Is the United States economy bad right now? Invariably, even when they don't need something my son finds some Polo socks or a T-shirt from a brand too trendy for me to know of its existence. That's not unique to how my family shops at Marshalls, it's essentially the business model for all the brands under the TJX banner. Get people into its stores by offering an ever-changing selection of amazing deals. Don't miss the move: Subscribe to TheStreet's free daily newsletter It's a business model that has spawned a lot of knockoffs, none of which has quite captured the magic of the two TJX Companies (TJX) sister sister companies. Marshalls and T.J. Maxx drive foot traffic which seems to results in that invariably leads to sales even when people had no plans to buy anything. That has led to the #MarhsallsFinds hashtag where people share what they bough at what prices. Of course, for that to work, the company needs access to inventory. T.J. Maxx and Marshalls buy retail inventory other retailers can't sell. Sometimes that means getting high-end brands at discount prices when the original manufacturer makes too much or misjudges demand. The original seller would hurt sales of new merchandise if it offered massive sales right next to those items. Instead, those items get bought by TJX which generally can't advertise the brands it has (hence the viral hashtag. Struggling retailers and even whole chains going out of business creates opportunities for Marshalls and T.J. Maxx. That might mean buying lots from a chain that has closed or taking on an order a manufacturer might have otherwise been stuck with. TJX CEO Ernie Herrman is bullish about his company's positioning. "I'd like to start with a few comments on the current environment and the reasons for our continued confidence in our business. We have a very long track record of successfully navigating through many types of challenging economic and retail markets," he shared during the company's first-quarter earnings call. More Retail: Walmart CEO sounds alarm on a big problem for customersTarget makes a change that might scare Walmart, CostcoTop investor takes firm stance on troubled retail brandWalmart and Costco making major change affecting all customers He believes that adversity has actually been a positive for the various TJX brands (which also includes HomeGoods). "Each time, we've emerged as an even stronger company with greater market share opportunities. We have a very experienced leadership team that has worked together for multiple decades. While we're not immune to tariff pressure, we are laser focused on our initiatives to offset them by remaining flexible and executing our opportunistic buying approach," he shared. Herrman explained why he thinks his brands are well-positioned. "First is the value proposition we offer to our customers. For us, value is a combination of brand, fashion, quality and price. Our customer surveys tell us that we have an excellent reputation as a value leader in each of our geographies," he said. He also believes that the current market should deliver customers to his stores. "As a trusted value retailer, we have historically attracted new shoppers to our stores in many different types of environments. Therefore, we are convinced that we will have an opportunity to gain market share if more consumers seek out value in the current environment," he added. Herrman also believes that TJX has a structural advantage over its rivals. "Our team of over 1,300 buyers source goods from an ever changing universe of over 21,000 vendors from more than 100 countries around the world. We have a global buying infrastructure and supply chain that has been in place for multiple decades," he added. Related: Chapter 11 bankruptcy, financial woes drag down 3 whiskey brands CFO John Klinger also gave some color on inventory and market opportunities. "Moving to inventory. Balance sheet inventory was up 15% and inventory on a per store basis was up 7% versus last year. We feel great about our inventory levels and have been taking advantage of the excellent deals we have been seeing in the marketplace. Availability of merchandise remains outstanding and we are set up very well to continue to flow fresh assortments to our stores and online," he shared. Trump administration sanctions Mexico over air carrier trade pact

The Transportation Department has announced a series of actions against Mexico for violating a years-old bilateral air carrier trade pact. The department said Mexico has not been in compliance with the airline competition agreement since 2022 when it took back some slots for flights for U.S. air carriers at Benito Juarez International airport in Mexico City and forced U.S. cargo planes to shift their operations to other parts of the city. 'Since 2022, Mexico has altered the playing field significantly for airlines that reduce competition and allow prominent competitors to gain an unfair advantage in the U.S.-Mexico market,' a release from the Transportation Department said. 'The United States and Mexico have an air services agreement... that commits both parties to a liberalized operating environment for all has walked away from its commitments.' Mexico has said it rescinded the slots to make room for construction at the airport, but the work has yet to materialize three years later, the transportation department contended. 'By restricting slots and mandating that all-cargo operations move out of [Mexico City International Airport], Mexico has broken its promise, disrupted the market and left American businesses holding the bag for millions in increased costs,' the release continued. The 'America First' actions enacted by the Trump administration require Mexican airlines to file schedules with the transportation department for all of their U.S. operations, mandate prior DOT approval before operating any large passenger or cargo aircraft charter flights from the United States and addressing anti-competitive issues in the market. Mexico seized slots from U.S.-based carriers American Airlines, Delta Airlines and United Airlines, as well as from three Mexican airlines -- Aeromexico, Viva Aerobus and Volaris -- to make room for the construction. 'Despite repeated outreach from the Department, Mexico has not provided any information regarding when these slots would be returned or any major construction projects at MEX will ever materialize,' the release continued. Duffy added that the United States is also reviewing trade agreements with other countries to determine if they are being violated, including pacts with some European nations.
