Bradford Council wants to continue clampdown on bad driving
The order prohibits acts such as loudly revving an engine, causing danger to other road users and pedestrians, and shouting abuse from a car.Anyone failing to comply with the order could face a Fixed Penalty Notice or fine of £1,000.According to the Local Democracy Reporting Service, hundreds of fines have been issued since the order was introduced.The consultation will ask members of the public which acts should be included in the updated order, which areas of Bradford they feel are worst for anti-social driving and what time of day they feel bad driving is worst.
'Not enough enforcement'
Figures from West Yorkshire Police show 123 fines were handed out at two car meets on the Euroway Trading Estate in 2023.In May last year two men were each fined £1,000 by Bradford and Keighley Magistrates' Court after being caught on CCTV taking part in a car meet on roads at Euroway.The men, one from Pudsey and another from Ackworth, did not pay the fines handed to them, and so were handed the hefty fines by the court.Opposition councillor Matt Edwards, who leads the Greens in Bradford, said the order must be better enforced in future."Bradford Council have had this PSPO for anti-social use of vehicles for many years and yet I'm not sure many residents will say the situation with dangerous driving has gotten any better in our district."In fact in some places it's worse. There is just not enough enforcement."

Tougher rules are being proposed for houses of multiple occupation (HMOs) after an increase in shared homes in a councillors will vote on plans to force all HMOs, regardless of size, to go through the full planning only properties with more than six people are regulated, meaning several applications could be approved without public or council scrutiny.A council report, due to be presented to cabinet members next week, said HMOs can "create issues" if they are not properly planned or managed. "The introduction of an Article 4 direction will enable the council to control the location and quality of new HMOs," the report said. "This will help deliver the council's aspiration of providing quality, affordable housing for all. "It would also provide more information on their whereabouts." 'We are listening' Earlier this year, residents on Greenbank Road in Darlington urged the local authority to introduce stricter measures to curb the number of properties being converted into HMOs. They said landlords are contributing to the "uncontrolled transformation" of their neighbourhood, as more homes are reconfigured to suit more residents, according to the Local Democracy Reporting leader Stephen Harker said: "In a few days, cabinet will consider a report recommending introducing regulations that will mean smaller HMO conversions will be brought into the planning process, residents are concerned, and we are listening."The authority's Homes Strategy for the next five years details plans to ensure access to safe, comfortable and sustainable housing for all, with a focus on building new affordable homes. Man has to pay more than £1,000 after refusing to move his car The man just left it there and ignored warnings to move it - eventually the council did it for him and then crushed the car An abandoned Honda on an industrial estate in Llantrisant (Image: Rhondda Cynon Taf County Borough Council ) A man has been ordered to pay more than £1,000 after he dumped his Honda car at a busy industrial estate and refused to move it. In December last year, Rhondda Cynon Taf's Council's Streetcare Enforcement Team received a complaint in relation to an abandoned vehicle which was causing an issue in a Llantrisant Industrial Estate. When the Enforcement Officer attended the location, the vehicle, a 2006 Honda Civic, was assessed and stickered with a warning notice. The notice stated that the owner of the car had 14 days to remove it or further action would be taken. The owner was identified as Callum Johnson from Ferndale, Rhondda. Johnson failed to remove the vehicle after the 14-days and was sent a letter to let him know that if the vehicle wasn't removed in the next 7-days, then the council would remove it and he would face a Fixed Penalty Notice. Don't miss a court report by signing up to our crime newsletter here . The vehicle was not removed and continued to cause issues on Green Meadow Industrial Estate in Llantrisant. This meant that enforcement officers had no option but to arrange for the removal and crushing of the vehicle. Article continues below After its removal and crushing Johnson was sent a Fixed Penalty Notice and ordered to pay £200. Johnson ignored this and two further letters advising him that court action would be taken. In June 2025 the case was heard at Merthyr Magistrates Court and Johnson was found guilty in his absence and issued with a fine of £440, costs of £498 and a victim surcharge of £176 - totalling £1014. 'This latest case once again demonstrates the teamwork by our dedicated enforcement team,' said councillor Ann Crimmings. 'The team continue to work tirelessly to ensure that our County Borough is a clean, green area for us all to live, work and visit and it is once again the minority of individuals that are blighting the highways of RCT. 'You are responsible for your vehicle and simply parking it up and walking away when you're done with it, isn't an option – it's a massive blight on the community and causes a big obstruction for those who have to live around it. 'The team will continue their great work and this latest case should act as a deterrent to those who think that they won't get caught red handed - there is never an excuse for fly-tipping or blighting the community and we will always take action to hold those to account for their actions.'
