An Australian Navy vessel, HMAS Canberra, inadvertently caused significant disruptions to radio and internet services across parts of New Zealand this week. The incident occurred as the ship was en route to Wellington, impacting both the North and South Islands in the early hours of Wednesday morning.
ADVERTISEMENT According to reports, HMAS Canberra's navigation radar system was activated as the vessel approached Wellington. This radar system, which operates on powerful frequencies, unintentionally interfered with local wireless internet and radio signals, leading to outages in several regions.
The Australian Defence Force (ADF) acknowledged the incident, confirming that the disruption was not intentional. They stated that as soon as the interference was detected, steps were taken to rectify the situation and restore normal communications.
The outages affected a wide range of services, including both public and private communications. Residents and businesses in the impacted areas experienced difficulties accessing the internet and radio broadcasts for several hours. The disruption highlighted the vulnerability of civilian communications infrastructure to external electronic interference.A spokesperson for the ADF expressed regret over the incident and assured the public that measures would be implemented to prevent similar occurrences in the future. The New Zealand government is reportedly in communication with Australian authorities to review protocols and ensure better coordination during future naval visits.

Learn about these 4 types of animals that kill their own parents

You might be shocked to find out that spiders are some of the most disrespectful creatures out there, going so far as to inhale their parents if the situation arises. Repeated instances of matriphagy- the act of eating mothers- has been noted among several species of anarchids, generally out of compulsion and an odd survival choice. Accord When young spiderlings of the black lace-weaver spider, or Amaurobius ferox, are born, they're obviously hungry, as babies tend to be. At first, this hunger is borne from the horrifying act of their mother feeding them 'trophic eggs,' which are unfertilized eggs meant to serve as food. Eventually, once hooked to this dish, the spiderlings eat not only the eggs but also their moms offering them the delicacy. Australian crab spiders known as Australomisidia ergandros have also come up with this interesting approach to parenting. Though there are some similarities to the black lace-weaver, there are also some key differences. For starters, these spiders are only able to lay one clutch of eggs. But more importantly, Australian crab spiders are incapable of getting trophic eggs out of their body. And so, their next of kin has no choice but to tear into their mothers-turned-spider-scotch-egg. Like some birds do, the mothers of a species of desert spider known as Stegodyphus lineatus regurgitate digested food for their babies to feed on. It's when her stores of food run dry that things get nasty. As she starts to empty her reserves, she begins to liquefy the entirety of her innards, producing a backup snack out of her internal organs. After about two weeks, inner-dinner is ready. The spider-children suck the husk of their late mother dry, leaving only an exoskeleton where mommy used to be. The Stegodyphus dumicola is better known as the 'African social spider.' In process, it's very similar to the previous entry, with the mothers producing a nutritious little form of spider formula made from their insides, leading to death. The social spider does add a fun little twist to the mix, where sisters and cousins have a chance to end up as a jar of spider Gerber as well. There are a few cases of matriphagy outside of arachnids, including in a specific species of earwigs — the hump earwig, or Anechura harmandi. But the hump earwig does away with all the complications, preferring the straightforward simplicity of chowing down on mom like the main course it deserves.

The ministry added that the building is also not listed as an archaeological monument. The clarification came in response to media reports that claimed the structure being demolished was once the ancestral home of the Ray family. Ray, considered one of the greatest filmmakers in world cinema, is celebrated for his works such as Pather Panchali, Charulata and The Apu Trilogy. His legacy continues to influence global film and literature.

Largest-ever military exercise, consisting of 19 countries and 35,000 troops, kicks off in Australia

Talisman Sabre 2025, the largest-ever military exercise, kicked off in Sydney on Monday, bringing together over 35,000 troops from Australia, the US and other partnering nations, according to the Australian Ministry of Defence. First began in 2005, Talisman Sabre started as a bilateral military exercise between Australia and the US. This year, over 35,000 troops from across 19 countries came together in Australia's Sydney to participate in the exercise following an opening ceremony on board HMAS Adelaide (an Australian naval ship) at Garden Island. According to the US Embassy in Australia, over the next three weeks, more than 35,000 military personnel from Australia and partnering nations will deploy across Queensland, Northern Territory, Western Australia, New South Wales and Christmas Island. "For the first time, activities will also be conducted outside of Australia in Papua New Guinea. Malaysia and Vietnam will also attend as observers," said the US Embassy in Australia It added that along with the US and Australia, forces from Canada, Fiji, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Japan, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Papua New Guinea, the Philippines, the Republic of Korea, Singapore, Thailand, Tonga, and the United Kingdom will join the military exercise as partners. The Australian Ministry of Defence said that Exercise Talisman Sabre 2025 (TS25) will be the 11th and largest iteration of the exercise, which will consist of a live fire exercise and field training exercises incorporating force preparation activities, amphibious landings, ground force manoeuvres, and air combat and maritime operations. According to Australian Chief of Joint Operations, Vice Admiral Justin Jones, Talisman Sabre provides an "unrivalled opportunity to train together" across the sea, land, air, space and cyber domains. "It remains a powerful demonstration of Australia's enduring commitment to strengthening relationships between trusted allies and partners, in support of a peaceful, stable and sovereign Indo-Pacific," he said. "Defence appreciates the support of the community for our essential training, throughout planning to execution, we have been conducting site surveys and meetings with state authorities, traditional owners and key stakeholders to inform a safe and productive exercise for all participating nations," he added. Deputy Commanding General US Army Pacific Lieutenant General Joel B. Vowell said that the Talisman Sabre 2025 is a "powerful demonstration of the combined strength, trust, interoperability, and readiness across the Indo-Pacific." "Together, we are building tactical trust, practising our operational manoeuvres, and reaffirming our strategic commitment to a free and open Indo-Pacific," he asserted.
