And when it does I'll tip my hat to the seller of the card and still seethe with massive amounts of hate for Panini for that dutch auction garbage move they pulled. It still bothers me. Like, a lot of people got Allisa Pili cards out of a $3,000 box and she just got waived by the team that drafted her less than two years ago.
With that out of the way, here's what I'm looking to scoop up these days:
I feel like one of the most underrated cards out there right now is a Roger Federer autograph card. There are so few authentic autos out there - tennis missed the junk era - and he's essentially the Tom Brady of tennis; not that I'm saying he's Tom Brady popular, but how are we letting autograph cards from arguably the greatest men's tennis player ever go for under $300? In fact his 'true' autos are so rare that it actually has me going 'Ooh, awesome, there's a Leaf one for sale on eBay!'
How about Junior Caminero? He's 21 years old and is a top-10 power hitter in baseball right now. I feel like maybe the fact that he's trapped in Tampa might hurt his cause but when he signs a $200 million dollar contract with the Red Sox at some point … you see what I'm getting at?

Napheesa Collier rookies and autos. While everyone is stumbling over their own feet trying to grab Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese rookie autos and stocking up on Sophie Cunningham cards, the best player in the league, Collier, is getting very little attention from collectors - comparatively, of course. Collier also doesn't have a 'true' rookie auto so you'd have to settle for 'Authentic' rookie autos or pay up for one of her 2020 Prizm autos. Still, hard to look at how the WNBA is shaping up in the collectibles space and feel like Collier isn't someone worth grabbing.
With football season just around a very long corner, while everyone is scooping up their favorite 'investment' quarterback, should we be looking at buying the odds-on-favorite for both Defensive Player of the Year and Comeback Player of the Year - Aidan Hutchinson?
Speaking of favorites to win awards; newly named head coach of the New England Patriots Mike Vrabel is sitting at 6:1 odds to win Coach of the Year. I know he has quite a few autos on the market but you could get a Vrabel auto for under $20 on eBay right now.

Controversial hot take alert, maybe? As the MLB Draft just passed us by, I want to remind you that 99% of the time 'prospecting' doesn't work out. At least not in the long run. In the accelerated timeline that top-tier prospects are seeing these days, the distance between their 1st Bowman and first RC are very, very short. The build in anticipation has lost its momentum.

It used to be that you would get a 1st Bowman, the prospect would then run up numbers in the minors for years and the 1st Bowman was the peak of the prospecting iceberg. Now, you're getting a 1st Bowman and literally before you know it that prospect is getting a rookie card if not in Series 1 then more than likely in Series 2.
There's very little time to marinate. Just remember this new reality when Topps starts to dangle the release of Bowman Draft.

There's lots of buzz around sports card vending machines showing up at airports — as if we needed another thing at the airport to disappoint us.
Are we on the precipice of a run on bobbleheads? Or did I already miss the run? It's crazy to think that people are waiting hours in line to get them while also not crazy, at the same time. People not that long ago used to wait in line to get one blaster box from Target in hopes of getting a base rookie Prizm card that has a print run of one for every-man-woman-and-child-around-the-world.

An Aaron Judge bobblehead with a run of 18,000 [and the requirement of being at Yankee stadium on a certain day, which makes it more of a challenge, tbh] actually doesn't sound so crazy as an investment piece.
How many 'error coins' do you think you've unknowingly had tucked between the couch cushions over the span of your lifetime?
I can get behind 'error coins' more than I can Charizard Cheetos - but honestly I am way too lazy to check every coin for a 'die cap' error. And check the centering? Are you insane?!
Finally, in some (clears throat) disturbing news: Shout out to this gentleman who collected over 21,000 Do Not Disturb signs from different hotels from around the world. It is said to be the largest collection of Do Not Disturb signs ever assembled. Happy to take your word on that, champ.

Sauce Gardner falls in latest cornerback rankings from ESPN
Few players have made a bigger, more immediate impact in the NFL than Ahmad 'Sauce' Gardner. Immediately after the New York Jets selected him 4th overall in the 2022 NFL draft, he won Defensive Rookie of the Year honors, and was then selected as a first-team All-Pro and Pro Bowler in each of his first two seasons. This electric start to his career is a big reason why he just signed a historic contract extension. Unfortunately for Gardner, his 2024 season was a bit of a fall from grace. The entire Jets team struggled, especially in the aftermath of the firing of Robert Saleh, and even a two-time All-Pro was not immune to the setbacks. Gardner ended the season without any accolades for the first time in his career. While no one is predicting a cataclysmic slide for Gardner, there are now people around the league who wonder if perhaps Gardner's explosive entry into the NFL was more of a fluke than his real self. This sentiment is reflected in the latest rankings from ESPN, who polled anonymous NFL executives, coaches, and scouts to find the ten best players in each position group. This year, Gardner checks in at No. 5, a drop of two spots from last year's list. The highest vote cast for him was at No. 3 while at least one respondent had him entirely outside of the Top 10. One AFC staffer did not mince words when it came to Gardner: 'Lots of missed tackles and penalties and didn't make many plays last year. Too much, too soon and thought the NFL was easy.' Jets fans won't want to hear it, but that's spot-on analysis. Even in college, the big knock on his game was how much he grabbed and held receivers when he failed to win a matchup. As a rookie, Gardner appeared to inexplicably get away with a ton of uncalled holding or interference penalties. In 2024, however, the flags started to come out and Gardner struggled to respond. Another respondent, an NFC defensive coach, concurred, saying, '...he was getting put in conversations that I didn't think were legitimate or fair. When I watch the film, I see a top ten cornerback. I don't see the top three.' That's about as straightforward as it gets. Harsh, but not out of line. The analysis isn't all bad, however. Pro Football Focus is still a believer in Sauce, who they ranked as the NFL's top cornerback heading into the 2025 season. But Gardner appears to have some doubters around the league now, maybe some who had doubted him all along, and it's up to him to prove them wrong in 2025.

Astros have one major item on offseason to-do list
After right fielder Kyle Tucker left H-Town to be with the Chicago Cubs for the 2025 season, the Houston Astros knew that their outfield was going to need a drastic improvement. The premier bat and superb defense that "King Tuck" brought to the lineup left a massive hole upon his departure. What the team and city likely didn't anticipate is rookie outfielder Cam Smith to burst onto the scene like he has in 2025. Smith was included in the trade between the Astros and Cubs that sent Tucker to the Windy City and was picked with the 14th overall pick in the 2024 MLB Draft. After making Houston's Opening Day lineup, Smith has been a surefire positive for the team, whether he's in the outfield or at third base. Through his first 82 professional games, Smith has posted a .277 batting average with seven home runs with 39 runs batted in. And according to CBS Sports and their predictions for the second half of the 2025 season, they believe that the team will announce a contract extension for the rookie, calling Smith a "special player," and if the team wants to anchor down their outfield for the next few seasons, it definitely won't hurt them. Assuming, of course, that Smith continues being the "special player" that he has been thus far.
