It's the end of an era for Mac's Tavern on Market Street in Old City. The bar is closing after more than 15 years in business. The iconic tavern announced on Facebook and Instagram that it was closing its doors for good.
"To all those who have loved, enjoyed, and frequented this establishment for over 15 years, we thank you," the bar said. "When we opened this bar, our hope was to create a welcoming, down-to-earth place where people could gather, share stories, laugh a little too loudly and enjoy a drink or two among friends."
Co-owned by "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" stars Rob McElhenney and Kaitlin Olson, the bar is a top tourist destination for visitors to Old City and a beloved spot for fans of the TV comedy.
"From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for your support over the years. We're proud of what we built, but even more proud of what you made it into," the bar said. "Though Mac's Tavern may be closing, our gratitude to you will remain open – and overflowing – forever."
The bar's 226 Market Street location has long been a home for bars and taverns like Skinner's Tavern and Anthony's Tavern.
It is unclear when Mac's Tavern will officially close.

ABC's breakout hit High Potential will be back for a second season on the 2025 TV schedule this fall. Considering the dramedy managed to pull off a triple-cliffhanger finale, there will be a whole lot to look forward to when the show eventually returns. There are already some theories about the Game Master villain, but Kaitlin Olson's Morgan will be dealing with a lot of other things too, including a big bad, her missing husband evidently still being alive, and JD Pardo's Tom returning after seemingly being written out. Not surprisingly, the leading actress has a list of what she wants to see in the second season, and there's one I really hope they focus on. Since Season 2 will be getting 18 episodes as opposed to Season 1's 13, there will be more room to explore stories. To that point, Olson spoke to Deadline about what she hopes High Potential dives into during Season 2. And even though she had a bunch of good ideas, there was one she mentioned that I really want them to focus on. I want to see who Morgan truly is underneath her cool and mostly calm persona, as she's going through more than the average person should have to deal with. The actress who plays her wants that too, as she said: I definitely want to do more of that, and I also want her to make mistakes, like I said before. It's not fun to watch somebody just hit it out of the park every single time, it's going to get boring. I love the stuff with the kids. I would love to see some more examples of her son and the way that he's gifted and how that's challenging for him. I mean, we touched on it a little bit with friendships at school this past season, but I think that there's so much to be explored there. Same with Ava and how it's a struggle for her, maybe, or maybe not. Maybe Ava starts to have a really, really great life and great social life, and that's enviable to Morgan and Elliot. View Deal While it's nice to see Morgan help solve a case and prove just how good she is at what she does, I also want to see her imperfections and watch her make mistakes. Maybe not one that's so big it changes the course of the show, but maybe just a small mistake, one that teaches her a lesson that she can laugh at later. Also, seeing more of her personal life aside from hooking up with Tom would be a good way to really dig deep into her character. Now that the show is in its second season and is starting to find its sea legs, it would be the perfect time to dig more into the backstories or Morgan and her kids. Olson also mentioned she wanted to highlight Morgan's neurodivergent brain, coming to terms with the 'gift' she may or may not have and how lonely she feels because of it. Plus, we also want to know more about everything else going on with Ava's dad, Morgan's relationships with her kids and more. It's hard to tell what exactly will happen in Season 2, but it sounds like Olson has more than a few ideas that will more than likely come to fruition. High Potential is keeping viewers on the edge of their seats, and it wouldn't be surprising if the same thing is done with Season 2. Fans will just have to wait and see what the show digs into. High Potential Adds A Shameless Star For Season 2, But I'm More Excited About Kaitlin Olson's Behind-The-Scenes Promotion

News about some of the biggest primetime shows of the 2025 TV schedule can be pretty quiet during summer hiatus, but fans of ABC's breakout High Potential have not one but two reveals to celebrate. The hit drama has expanded the cast to include a former Shameless cast member, not too long after the surprising cancellation of his CBS show. At the same time, I'm ready to cheer for leading lady Kaitlin Olson getting a well-deserved promotion. Steve Howey, possibly best known for his eleven-season run as Kev Ball on Shameless, has joined the cast of High Potential as a Season 2 series regular, according to Deadline. The outlet reports that Howey will play Jesse Wagner, the new captain of the precinct with a savviness for politics, a knack for charm, and a talent for how to dress in expensive attire. While that sounds like the description of a character who might not get on well with Morgan (Kaitlin Olson), Wagner reportedly also likes to think outside of the action and wind up in the midst of action. I'm already curious to see what he makes of the unconventional partnership between Morgan and Karadec (Daniel Sunjata). Olson debunked the idea that she was playing towards a Morgan/Karadec romance, but that doesn't mean their bond – such as it is – won't seem particularly strange to a newcomer. I'm definitely on board with seeing what Steve Howey brings to the series. As the co-lead of CBS' much-hyped True Lies TV adaptation a couple years ago, I'd honestly expected him to be busy over on CBS for the foreseeable future. That show's surprising failure to grab ratings led to guest spots on NBC's Brilliant Minds and Happy's Place (for a fun Reba reunion). High Potential will be his first series regular gig since True Lies in 2023, and has the built-in success of the first season that he couldn't enjoy on CBS. In case you thought that Kaitlin Olson couldn't be promoted any further since she's the lead of the series, think again! The same Deadline report also reveals that the It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia star has been bumped up from producer to executive producer. Now, I'm not sure if that means any actual change in Olson's duties behind the scenes, but I love to see her get that recognition. After sixteen seasons and counting of Always Sunny episodes that list Rob McElhenney, Glenn Howerton, and Charlie Day – a.k.a. the other three of the original four stars – as executive producers, it hits just right to see Olson getting that title for her very successful solo show. That's not to imply that she's not getting credit where credit's due for Always Sunny. She was one of the original four main stars (which was bumped up to five after Danny DeVito signed on) from the start, simply without having a heavy producing/writing hand behind the scenes. I just like seeing her get some added spotlight, especially since Morgan is actually a character to root for. Sweet Dee on Always Sunny… well, the point of that comedy isn't watching a group of heroes you want to cheer on, even when surrounded by children in the Abbott Elementary crossover! High Potential will give Olson her first executive producer credit since The Mick, which ran for two seasons on Fox from 2017-2018 as Olson's first network TV show as the top-billed star. This wasn't on the list of things she said she wants Season 2 to dive into, but great to see all the same. Unlike Doctor Odyssey on ABC, the network wasted no time in renewing High Potential for the 2025-2026 TV season, and it will return to primetime on Tuesdays at 10 p.m. ET after Dancing with the Stars. No premiere date has been set just yet, however, so you can always check out earlier episodes streaming with a Hulu subscription now. As for Always Sunny, Season 17 launches on FXX on Wednesday, July 9 at 9 p.m. ET.
