Paramount Pictures has officially added a third installment of the 'Angry Birds Movie' to its release schedule, set to hit theaters on January 29, 2027.
This announcement comes as the studio takes over distribution duties from Sony Pictures, which released the original 2016 film, grossing $352 million worldwide. The sequel, which arrived in 2019, earned $152.2 million, but the series has continued to maintain a strong streaming presence in recent years.
The film, which will once again feature the animation team from Rovio Animation, will be produced by Rovio, with Sega, which acquired Rovio and the "Angry Birds" brand in 2023, also on board as producers. Sega has partnered with Paramount on the successful "Sonic the Hedgehog" films. Additional production is handled by Namit Malhotra's Prime Focus Studios in collaboration with Flywheel Media, One Cool Group, and Dentsu. DNEG, the animation studio behind hits like 'The Garfield Movie' and 'Nimona,' will provide animation for the film.
Several voice cast members from the previous films will reprise their roles, including Jason Sudeikis (Red), Josh Gad (Chuck), Rachel Bloom (Silver), and Danny McBride (Bomb). New additions to the cast include Emma Myers, Keke Palmer, Tim Robinson, Lily James, Marcello Hernandez, Walker Scobell, Sam Richardson, and Nikki Glaser.
John Rice, director of the first "Angry Birds Movie," returns to helm the new film, based on a screenplay by Thurop Van Orman, who directed the sequel. The third installment of the franchise comes as video game adaptations continue to thrive at the global box office. Paramount has also seen success with the 'Sonic the Hedgehog' series, with the third movie grossing $491 million worldwide.
The release of the new "Angry Birds" film follows closely behind major video game adaptations like 'The Super Mario Bros. Movie', which grossed $1.36 billion globally, and Warner Bros.' upcoming 'Minecraft Movie', which delivered a $313 million global opening weekend.

Robert Carlyle joins 'Watson' season 2 as Sherlock Holmes in CBS drama twist

Robert Carlyle is set to play Sherlock Holmes in the second season of CBS' drama series Watson, according to Variety. The Scottish actor, known for his roles in Trainspotting, The Full Monty, and Once Upon a Time, will appear in a recurring guest role opposite Morris Chestnut's Dr. John Watson. Season 1 of Watson followed Dr. Watson as he opened a clinic specializing in rare conditions following Holmes' apparent death during a confrontation with Moriarty (played by Randall Park). Throughout the season, Holmes only appeared as a hallucination, voiced by Matt Berry. However, Season 2 brings a major twist: Sherlock Holmes is revealed to be alive. According to the official synopsis, Watson 'faces an unexpected twist when Sherlock Holmes, who was presumed dead, resurfaces, forcing him to confront a buried secret from his past — one that lies hidden within his own body.' Showrunner Craig Sweeny expressed excitement over Carlyle's casting, calling him 'the mighty Robert Carlyle' and praising his history of iconic roles. Sweeny noted, 'He now steps into the shoes of the most iconic detective of all, Sherlock Holmes.' Carlyle is the second actor to portray Holmes on CBS in recent years, following Johnny Lee Miller's seven-season run in Elementary. The new season also stars Eve Harlow, Peter Mark Kendall, Ritchie Coster, Inga Schlingmann, and Rochelle Aytes. Morris Chestnut previously hinted in interviews that he believed Sherlock was still alive, and now the storyline confirms that suspicion. The return of Holmes is expected to reshape the dynamic and deepen the emotional arc of Watson's character. Watson Season 2 premieres Monday, October 13 at 10/9c on CBS and streams the following day on Paramount+.

South Park teaser brings back Trump and Satan in new episode

Comedy Central's South Park is heating up Season 27 with more controversy. After a wild premiere that depicted Donald Trump as Satan's lover, the teaser for the upcoming episode—airing August 6—confirms both characters are returning. The clip also shows Eric Cartman mocking conservative activist Charlie Kirk. South Park's epic season continues on Wednesday, August 6 at 10/9c on Comedy Central and next day on Paramount+. — South Park (@SouthPark) July 29, 2025 The Season 27 premiere marked the first time South Park used Donald Trump's actual likeness, rather than portraying him through Mr. Garrison as in previous seasons. The episode used deepfake technology to animate Trump, ending with a surreal parody PSA that quickly went viral for its bizarre imagery. Following the premiere, White House Assistant Press Secretary Taylor Rogers criticized the show, calling it "a desperate attempt for attention" and stating that South Park hasn't been relevant in over two decades. Despite the backlash, creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone show no signs of slowing down. The show is secured through a $1.5 billion deal with Paramount, which includes 50 new episodes and streaming rights on Paramount+. According to co-creator Matt Stone, the delay between seasons was intentional to create distance from the last election cycle. Still, he admits the challenge of satirizing politics during election years. The next South Park episode airs August 6, while the Season 27 premiere is currently streaming on Paramount+. The series continues to push boundaries with its bold takes on politics, religion, and pop culture.

Hatsune Miku and Persona 5 Royal collaboration confirmed for August in Colorful Stage event

Sega has confirmed an official crossover between Hatsune Miku: Colorful Stage and Persona 5 Royal, set to run from August 4 to 13 2025. The limited-time event will bring a range of new content to the mobile rhythm game, including cosmetics based on characters from Persona 5 Royal. The collaboration was announced on the official Hatsune Miku: Colorful Stage X account on July 28, shortly after a leaked video appeared online showing Hatsune Miku performing a cover of Persona 5's battle theme, 'Life Will Change.' Sega has now formally confirmed the track as part of the event. During the crossover, players will be able to obtain special gacha items, including limited avatar costumes inspired by Persona 5's Joker and Violet. Two free items will also be distributed to players who log in during the event period: the 'Morgana Dress-up Costume' and the 'Leblanc Curry Set.' While this is the first collaboration between Colorful Stage and the Persona series, Hatsune Miku has previously appeared in several other gaming titles, including Persona 4: Dancing All Night, Fortnite, and Monster Hunter. She has also been featured in non-gaming projects such as official Magic: The Gathering cards and Asus hardware promotions. Full event details have yet to be released, but Sega has stated that more information will be made available ahead of the launch.
