Discovery: Museum of Gloucester opened a new archaeology hub that "brings Gloucester's hidden history to life". The Discovery Centre, based in Eastgate Shopping Centre, will showcase artefacts from the museum's collection, many of which have never been seen by the public before.
Milestone: The Cheltenham Playhouse has announced it's reached an initial fundraising target of £50,000, offering hope for the future of the community arts venue. Bosses warned last month that there was "a high risk" the theatre would close because its finances are in a "critical state".
Fluffy newborns: Four penguin chicks have hatched at Birdland Park & Gardens in Bourton-on-the-Water. Birdland said this breeding season has been "especially significant" as the pairs - Pablo and Sunny, Broady and Kat, and Big Mac and Cookie - are all first time parents!
Artful: Cheltenham Open Studios has been taking place this week with 78 different exhibition venues displaying the work of local artists. Visitors have been able to meet the artists, learn about their practice and even have a go themselves.
Community purchase: A community group in Stroud had a £200,000 bid accepted to buy a meadow and woodland in the town. Rodborough Fields Preservation Group said it would set aside the land bordering the River Frome for recreational use.
Fancy owning a tram: Offers are being invited to give Cheltenham last surviving tram a new lease of life.
Tram 21 has been in storage for more than 30 years and Cheltenham Borough Council has offered it to anyone who is interested in doing something with it for the benefit of the community.
New heights: Gloucester Cathedral has reopened its iconic Tower, now complete with a brand new roof deck.
People can once again climb 269 steps up the tower to enjoy panoramic views of Gloucester, the Severn Valley and the Malvern Hills.
Sign of the times: Shops in Gloucester could soon be asked to improve their signage to reflect the city's history and heritage.
Gloucester City Council wants to make the city more attractive to residents, shoppers and tourists.

Annual Pride event faces financial struggles
The chair of a Pride organisation says financial challenges are putting the future of its main event at risk. Pride in Gloucestershire, which began in 2006, will be asking the public for donations on the gate this year due to a £25,000 shortfall in its budget. Chair Richard Stevens said the cost of putting on the event, which is not ticketed, has increased by £16,000 since 2023. He told BBC Radio Gloucestershire this is "a struggle we're seeing across the UK in Pride and community organisations". "On top of that, a lot of Pride relies on sponsorship from businesses and, due to the cost of living, we're seeing reductions in sponsors. "It difficult – we've got to try and increase the income we have, or scale back and do what we can do with Pride in Gloucestershire." Gloucestershire Pride events now run in Cheltenham, Cirencester, Cinderford and Tewkesbury, as well as as a larger event in at Gloucester Park, attracting thousands of people. Mr Stevens said in addition to Pride in Gloucestershire, which will take place on 13 September, asking the public for donations, it has also launched a "support wrist band" which will provide another way for people to support the event. Festival goers can also sponsor a toilet at the event for £25 and put a message up in their sponsored toilet. Ellen DeGeneres says Donald Trump is the reason she left the US
Ellen DeGeneres has confirmed that she decided to leave the United States because of the re-election of President Donald Trump, as well as addressing the allegations of a toxic work culture at her former show, according to British media reports. The comedian and her wife, actress Portia de Rossi, moved to the United Kingdom ahead of the US election in November. They bought what they initially thought would be a 'part-time house,' DeGeneres told a crowd at the Everyman Theatre in the southern English town of Cheltenham on Sunday, according to reports by the BBC and the Guardian. However, 'We got here the day before the election and woke up to lots of texts from our friends with crying emojis, and I was like, 'He got in',' she said. 'And we're like, 'We're staying here.'' CNN has reached out to the White House and DeGeneres' representatives for comment. DeGeneres' remarks come a week after she showed support on social media for talk show host Rosie O'Donnell, whose US citizenship Trump has threatened to revoke. DeGeneres went on to enthuse about the English countryside to the crowd in Cheltenham, saying, 'It's absolutely beautiful,' the BBC reported. 'We're just not used to seeing this kind of beauty. The villages and the towns and the architecture – everything you see is charming and it's just a simpler way of life.' 'It's clean. Everything here is just better – the way animals are treated, people are polite. I just love it here,' added the 67-year-old, who in May shared a humorous video on Instagram of herself riding a lawnmower on her British estate. 'We moved here in November, which was not the ideal time, but I saw snow for the first time in my life. We love it here. Portia flew her horses here, and I have chickens, and we had sheep for about two weeks,' she continued. The comedian and LGBTQ activist also announced that she and De Rossi would get married again in the UK if the US reversed its legalization of gay marriage, adding that being gay in Hollywood is 'still a problem. People are still scared.' Referring to the US Southern Baptists' overwhelming endorsement of a ban on gay marriage in June, DeGeneres said: 'The Baptist Church in America is trying to reverse gay marriage. They're trying to literally stop it from happening in the future and possibly reverse it. Portia and I are already looking into it, and if they do that, we're going to get married here.' The former daytime talk show host, who wrapped up 'The Ellen DeGeneres Show' in 2022 after facing allegations of a toxic work culture two years prior, also opened up about her show ending in an 'unpleasant way.'
