R Madhavan, in romantic roles, delighted audiences for years, from the tender moments in Alaipayuthey to the charming chemistry in Aap Jaisa Koi. But for the actor, the true magic of romance on screen begins long before the cameras roll – it's in that pivotal moment when he meets his co-star for the first time. In a recent interview, the actor opened up about his approach to on-screen romance, sharing his initial encounter with Fatima Sana Shaikh during the making of Aap Jaisa Koi.
While talking to Filmamre, the 3 Idiots actor revealed, 'When you do a romantic film, one of the moments of truth for me is when I meet my co-star. You're hoping and praying that you don't have to work too much because chemistry is something you can't explain. It's a chemical reaction."
He went on to recall his first meeting with Fatima Sana Shaikh for Aap Jaisa Koi, saying, 'It was a small, cosy room in the Dharma office. We were sitting at a distance, and during the narration, she quietly shuffled over to my side, sat next to me, and just started talking. The comfort level was amazing — unspoken, natural. You can't write that into a script. For me, it is very important to fall in love with my heroine to be able to give that chemistry."
'I think the highest form of love is respect; if that's not there, to kuch bhi nai rahega (then nothing will be there). And that was instinctive for me when I met her," he added.
For Madhavan, respect is the highest form of love, and he found himself instinctively respecting Fatima.

India is on the precipice of an "amazing, undeniable" global soft power whose "guardians" in equal measure are both those living in the homeland as well as the Indian diaspora, Emmy-Award winning comedian and actor Vir Das has said. "I think something that the diaspora does really well is protect culture," Das said here during a special interaction hosted at Asia Society. Das, who won the 2023 International Emmy for Best Comedy for his comedy special 'Landing', said amid applause and laughter from the audience at the event that what he finds "lovely" about the Indian diaspora is that while they have an American accent and American values, but "at your shaadi, you (dance) to 'Mehendi laga ke rakhna'. The Asia Society event on Thursday was presented in collaboration with global media platform, community and agency South Asian Trailblazers and was held on the eve of the premiere of Das's latest comedy special 'Vir Das: Fool Volume'. "India is on the precipice of an amazing, undeniable global soft power, and it only translates when the bridge happens from me to you. So we are both ends carrying that soft power," Das said, a message for the Indian diaspora settled across the world. "We are both guardians of India's soft power at an equal level." Citing the example of Indian actor and singer Diljit Dosanjh, who became the first Punjabi singer to perform at the popular Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in California in 2023, Das said, "When Diljit performs at Coachella, that is an amazing, undeniable thing." "The diaspora has to show up to pack Coachella. When he shows up in India, we'll pack it for him. But when he comes to Coachella, show up, for modern Indian culture," he said. Das, who was first nominated for the 2021 International Emmy for Comedy for his previous Netflix special 'Vir Das: For India', had hosted the prestigious global awards last year. Responding to a question during the interactive Q&A session with the audience on what are some of the things the next generation should adopt from the current one, Das said one would be to know "that India is far more open-minded than you think it is. I say this with all due respect to the diaspora. " Sometimes you are raised in a time capsule version of India, that is the last version of India that your parents left behind, and that India doesn't exist anymore," he said to applause from the audience. Das added that "You are raised in more conservative households than we are, many times. So, please come and visit modern India." "Come and visit a place that does everything from Diljit to Mika to 'RRR' to 'Hanumankind'," Das said, referring to the popular Indian artists, the blockbuster movie which won the Oscar for Best Original Song at the 2023 Academy Awards for 'Naatu, Naatu' and the India-born rapper Sooraj Cherukat. Das underlined that there are things happening in India right now that kids of the Indian diaspora need to know. "The second thing is that it is okay to be flawed. I feel like children who are raised in the diaspora, you are under tremendous pressure to have model minority behaviour, more so than kids who are raised back home" because opportunities are far more scarce. "It is a smaller community here, but try and create the abundance mindset that you had when there were a billion jobs for you. I know that there are fewer jobs, that's a very tough mindset to create, but I think your child would be better served by creating that mindset," Das said.

Netflix admits using Gen AI for one of its shows to cut costs
Netflix has used visual effects powered by generative artificial intelligence (AI) in one of its original TV shows for the first time, signaling the company's growing adoption of AI in content creation. During a call with investors last week, Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos revealed that the Argentine series The Eternaut, which premiered in April, features 'the very first GenAI final footage to appear on screen in a Netflix, Inc. original series or film.' 'The creators wanted to show a building collapsing in Buenos Aires. So our iLine team which is the production innovation group within Scanline, Netflix's in-house visual effects studio partnered with the show's creative team using AI-powered tools,' Sarandos explained. 'That VFX sequence was completed 10 times faster than it would have been using traditional visual effects tools and workflows. And the cost of producing it through conventional means would simply not have been feasible for a show with that budget.' He emphasised that generative AI enabled the production team to deliver certain sequences faster and at a lower cost. However, the use of generative AI in content creation has sparked a mixed response in the entertainment industry. Critics argue that it can create content using others' work without their consent and fear it could replace human jobs. AI was a major point of contention during the 2023 Hollywood writers' strike. Under the new agreement, studios are prohibited from using AI to write or edit scripts that have already been written by a human writer. Sarandos previously stated that Netflix's use of generative AI will not interfere with its commitment to 'telling great stories.' Tools like OpenAI's Sora and Google's Veo 3 have intensified concerns in the industry, as they allow users to generate Hollywood-quality footage from simple text prompts raising fears about job security and creative livelihoods. Netflix has plans to introduce interactive ads powered by generative AI during shows and movies for ad-tier subscribers starting in 2026. The Eternaut is Argentina's most ambitious sci-fi series. The production is based on the Eisner Award-winning graphic novel The Eternaut (El Eternauta), written by Héctor G. Oesterheld and illustrated by Francisco Solano López. The comic was originally published in installments from 1957 to 1959, and later released as a single volume in 2015. When the show debuted earlier this year, The Eternaut quickly topped Netflix's global Top 10 for non-English-language series.
