The Mysore district committee of the All India Democratic Students' Organisation (AIDSO) has lauded students, parents, teachers, and the people of Karnataka for collecting over 10 lakh signatures as part of the ongoing campaign to 'Save Public Education'.
In a statement, AIDSO district secretary Nithin said the campaign, launched under the slogan 'Save Public Education', aims to gather 50 lakh signatures to demand the strengthening of government schools and colleges.
'Reaching this milestone marks a significant stage in our movement. The unity, courage, and commitment shown by students in opposing the anti-people decision of the State government to reportedly close 6,200 government schools under the guise of consolidation through the Hub and Spoke model proves that even the impossible can be made possible,' he said.
Each signature collected is more than just ink on paper—it represents the heartfelt voice of every individual fighting to uphold every child's right to free and quality education. 'This achievement gives us greater strength to push the movement forward,' he said.
The AIDSO district committee has urged the students and supporters to intensify their efforts to achieve the target of 50 lakh signatures and reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding the future of children and public education, the statement said.

No fee hike for nursing courses this year: Sharan Prakash Patil

The State government has announced that there will be no fee hike for nursing courses this academic year. Minister for Medical Education and Skill Development Sharan Prakash Patil said this in a meeting with the Association of Nursing Colleges at Vikasa Soudha on Thursday. Plea rejected 'The government will not allow any increase in the fees. Most nursing students come from rural and economically disadvantaged backgrounds. Imposing additional fees is unjust and unacceptable,' said Dr. Patil, rejecting the association's plea to raise the fees. He said that the existing fee structure, ₹10,000 under the government quota, ₹1 lakh under the management quota, and ₹1.4 lakh for the non-Karnataka students, will continue. 'Any college charging more than the approved fee will face penalties and legal action. We will not hesitate to revoke their affiliation,' he said. Currently, there are 611 nursing colleges in the State with around 35,000 seats. Of these, 80% are filled by the management, and 20% fall under the government quota. The Minister also directed the Karnataka Examination Authority Executive Director H. Prasanna to ensure reimbursement of fees to nursing colleges within 30 days. Engineering fee hike flayed The All India Democratic Students' Organisation (AIDSO) has condemned the State government's decision to hike the fees for engineering and architecture courses. The fees for government seats in private unaided colleges have been increased by 7.5%, and fees in government colleges have been increased by 5%. The AIDSO has sought a rollback of the hike.

KEA introduces option entry fee for professional course seat allotment

Mysuru: Ahead of the crucial option entry process to allot seats for various professional courses, the Karnataka Examination Authority (KEA) introduced a new rule. As per the guidelines, students need to pay Rs 750 to make option entries. A section of students is irked by the KEA decision, while officials justified it. KEA officials made it clear that this is not a new fee and is required to ensure total transparency in the entire process. According to the All India Democratic Students' Organisation (AIDSO), Mysuru district committee, this year, CET candidates are asked to make a Rs 750 payment during the option entry process. "Imposing an additional Rs 750 at the option entry stage is not only burdensome but also reveals an exploitative mindset. With over 4 lakh students participating in this process, the move will generate a staggering revenue of over Rs 300 crore for KEA," the organisation alleged. "What is the real purpose behind this fee? Is it meant to serve any genuine administrative necessity, or is it simply a method of extracting money from students and their families?" they questioned. KEA, as a state govt body, should be facilitating education, not profiting from it. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Memperdagangkan CFD Emas dengan salah satu spread terendah? "We strongly condemn this anti-student step and demand the immediate withdrawal of the option entry fee. We appeal to all students, parents, and concerned citizens to raise their voices against this unjust imposition and stand united for affordable and equitable education," he stated. Meanwhile, KEA officials justified the decision. KEA executive director H Prasanna Kumar informed that it is a one-time payment. "Last year, we took Rs 750 during college fee payment. Now we are asking before that," he said. "The reason behind this exercise is to let interested students only fill the option because after the first round of seat allotment, around 14,000 students didn't select the appropriate choice last year," he said. Sources in the state higher education department informed that this fee will ensure that the authorities can track the students who make option entries. "It will help the govt in its effort to end the seat blocking menace," said an officer.
