Dubai traffic: DIFC roads are getting an upgrade as RTA awards new project
There will be construction of bridges and tunnels extending 1,700 metres, and widening of the street from three to four lanes in each direction.
The development will increase the road's capacity by 33%, from 6,600 to 8,800 vehicles per hour in both directions and reduce travel time by over half, from 13 minutes to 6 minutes. Anyone who has used the roads in DIFC during rush hour will welcome this project.
The project will help the traffic flow in several key areas and roads such as DIFC, the Dubai World Trade Centre that hosts major global exhibitions such as GITEX, Arabian Travel Market, Arab Health, Gulfood, and the Transport Exhibition. The project will no doubt assist in the flow of traffic for these large events.
There are 40 areas being improved by RTA throughout the summer as the traffic quietens down, which include 22 major streets and 9 school zones.

Dubai Metro Blue Line project to disrupt Mirdif traffic, RTA warns
Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority on Tuesday warned motorists of traffic diversions in the Mirdif area as construction work is set to begin on the Dubai Metro Blue Line. The authority also advised drivers to use alternative routes where possible and to plan their trips in advance. The roundabout intersection between 5th and 8th street near City Centre Mirdif will be closed, with a diversion in place. This will also be the case in the opposite direction, from 8th to 5th street towards Algeria Street. What is Dubai Metro Blue Line? Work began on the Metro project in June after an announcement from Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Vice President and Ruler of Dubai. The Blue Line is set to transform the north-east of the city, easing traffic congestion and establishing a direct link with Dubai International Airport. The Dh18 billion ($4,9 billion) project will include 14 new stations and add 30km to the Metro network, with 15.5km of it underground. The expansion is part of the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan, which has easier commuting among its top priorities to cater for a fast-growing population. Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority said the Blue Line would connect five principal urban regions of Dubai – Bur Dubai/Deira, Downtown/Business Bay, Dubai Silicon Oasis, Dubai Marina/JBR and Expo City Dubai. When completed, the Metro network will be 131km long and encompass 78 stations served by 168 trains. The number of Dubai Metro passengers is expected to exceed 300 million in 2026 and reach 320 million by 2031, Dubai Media Office reports.

The Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure has announced a vital project to develop and enhance Emirates Road, transforming the key route into a faster, smoother, and more efficient corridor. The development will significantly reduce travel time by up to 45% for commuters traveling from Ras Al Khaimah, through Umm Al Quwain and Sharjah, to Dubai, and vice versa. The project is set to cost 750 million dirhams. Roadworks are set to begin in September 2025 and will take two years to complete. Here's what to expect The Emirates Road development project will include expanding the road from three to five lanes in each direction over a stretch of 25km. It will begin at Al Badee Interchange in Sharjah and end in Umm Al Quwain. The expansion will increase the road's capacity to approximately 9,000 vehicles per hour – a 65% increase. Interchange 7 on Emirates Road will also receive a comprehensive upgrade with the construction of six directional bridges. At a combined capacity, it will be able to handle 13,200 vehicles per hour. RTA Conducts Field Testing in China for 2025 Dubai Self-Driving Transport Challenge
Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has conducted field evaluations in China as part of the 4th Dubai World Challenge for Self-Driving Transport 2025, which offers a total prize of USD $3 million. The RTA technical team visited Guangzhou, Xi'an, Guiyang, and Suzhou to observe real-world testing of self-driving technologies submitted by competing consortia. The visit had four main objectives: To carry out technical and operational assessments of autonomous vehicles based on challenge criteria and international safety standards. To evaluate each company's technology and readiness through direct observation. To inspect operational environments, including factories and control centres, and establish potential strategic partnerships. To define the next phase of the Challenge by reviewing test results and deployment readiness for Dubai. Five autonomous vehicle types were tested: a Robotaxi, two Robobuses, a Roboboat, and an autonomous logistics vehicle. RTA developed a structured methodology for the trials, which were divided into three categories: Standstill Tests: These assessed safety systems, sensor coverage, emergency response features, and mobile application integration while vehicles remained stationary.
