Scores killed in Gaza as Israel intensifies strikes
More than 80 Palestinians were killed across Gaza on Thursday, according to health officials, as Israel intensified its strikes across the strip.
The deaths, which authorities said included dozens of people seeking aid, come as negotiations to reach a ceasefire in the enclave ramp up. A source told CNN that Hamas officials were set to meet Thursday to prepare a response to the latest proposal, which has been accepted by Israel.
At a school-turned-displacement facility in Gaza City, 15 people were killed and 25 injured in Israeli strikes that left many with severe burns, the director of Al-Shifa hospital Dr. Mohammad Abu Silmiya said. The hospital is treating those wounded in the attack.
'The scene was extremely harrowing due to the charred bodies of the martyrs and children,' said Fares Afana, who heads the Emergency and Medical Services in northern Gaza, and had teams evacuating the injured from the school.
The hospital director another 12 people were killed in other strikes in Gaza City.
In response to a CNN question on the school strike, the Israeli military said it struck a 'key Hamas terrorist who was operating in a Hamas command and control center' in Gaza City. The Israeli military said that prior to the attack, 'numerous steps were taken to mitigate the risk of harming civilians, including the use of precise munitions, aerial surveillance, and additional intelligence.'
Earlier this morning, the Israeli army said that over the past day it struck 'approximately 150 terror targets throughout the Gaza Strip, including terrorists, underground routes, military structures, weapons, sniper posts, and additional terror infrastructure sites.' CNN has requested comment from the Israeli military on Thursday's strikes.
Images taken at the scene of the attack in Gaza City showed flames inside a building and several bodies that had been severely burned.

'Every so often, the Israelis would attack the school and bomb it, forcing us to flee, then we would return when the Israeli pressure eased. Today, as you can see, the pressure was intense,' said a woman, who did not give her name.
In southern Gaza, 35 bodies arrived at the Nasser Hospital on Thursday morning, according to the spokesman of Nasser hospital, Ahmad Al-Fara. The death toll includes fifteen people who were allegedly killed while waiting for aid in Khan Younis, and 20 others who died in strikes on encampments in the city, the hospital said.
The aid seekers were waiting near the US-backed Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF) distribution sites in the Al-Tahliya area of southwest Khan Younis when they were hit, according to the hospital.
'They said the American (GHF) is safe, is that what safety looks like?' one man, Awad Barbach, said at the funeral of one of those killed.
In another incident, in central Gaza near the Netzarim Corridor, crowds gathered to receive aid from trucks when chaos ensued, a witness said. Twenty-five people were killed in the incident, according to Abu Silmiya, the Al-Shifa hospital director.
'It was a trap… people were stabbing each other for the food… (then there was an) hour and a half of (Israeli) gunfire… we are not Hamas or Fatah. I'm just a civilian who wants to eat, and instead I find death,' one eyewitness, Ahmed Khella, told CNN.
'Where are (Hamas)?… they are all dogs,' he added.

OIC: Israeli Occupation Burn Agricultural Land in 11 West Bank villages
Mohamed Mandour The Organization of Islamic Cooperation's Media Observatory on Israeli Crimes against Palestinians recorded 998 Palestinian murdered between July 1 and 7, 2025, including (992) murdered in the Gaza Strip alone. During this period, 762 Palestinians were murdered, and civil defense personnel recovered 7 additional Palestinians from under the rubble. Data on 223 Palestinians who fell earlier in the aggression were also documented, adding this number to the total number of murdered since October 7, 2023, which has reached 59,033. The number of injured over the past seven days has reached 2,991, and 145,226 over the period from October 7, 2023, to July 7, 2025. According to the OIC Observatory, the occupation forces continued to kill numerous Palestinians among those waiting for aids over the past week. They also bombed a water desalination plant in the al-Rimal neighborhood as part of their deliberate attacks targeting the basic needs of Gaza residents. They also targeted the Abu Asi School, run by the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), in the Shati refugee camp, and a school in the al-Zeitoun neighborhood. Meanwhile, the United Nations office in Gaza announced that five school buildings housing displaced persons in the northern Gaza Strip were subjected to Israeli bombing on July 1 and 2, which also killed the director of the Indonesian Hospital and his family. During that period, fuel ran out at al-Shifa Medical Complex, threatening the lives of 350 kidney failure patients. Nasser Hospital also announced a fuel shortage, threatening the lives of infants due to the incubators' failure. These developments came as Gaza residents live on only 25% of the remaining inhabited land due to the 'Gideon Vehicles' plan, which aims to seize Palestinian land. In the West Bank and occupied Al-Quds, the occupation army carried out 299 raids on Palestinian areas between July 1 and 7, 2025. These raids included numerous crimes, the most notorious of which was the arrest of 198 Palestinians, including six children, in Ramallah, Bethlehem, and Nablus. The raids also included the storming of a kindergarten in Al-Khalil and the government hospital in Tulkarm. The demolition of 100 buildings in Jenin camp brought the total number of buildings demolished in the past seven days to 132, including 48 in Nur Shams camp in Tulkarm and 58 in Tulkarm camp. The demolition also included a lathe in Nablus, four agricultural facilities, numerous sheep pens, greenhouses, and mobile homes in Nablus, Tulkarm, and Al-Quds, and retaining walls and a well in Ramallah. read more Gold prices rise, 21 Karat at EGP 3685 NATO's Role in Israeli-Palestinian Conflict US Expresses 'Strong Opposition' to New Turkish Military Operation in Syria Shoukry Meets Director-General of FAO Lavrov: confrontation bet. nuclear powers must be avoided News Iran Summons French Ambassador over Foreign Minister Remarks News Aboul Gheit Condemns Israeli Escalation in West Bank News Greek PM: Athens Plays Key Role in Improving Energy Security in Region News One Person Injured in Explosion at Ukrainian Embassy in Madrid News Israeli-Linked Hadassah Clinic in Moscow Treats Wounded Iranian IRGC Fighters News China Launches Largest Ever Aircraft Carrier Sports Former Al Zamalek Player Ibrahim Shika Passes away after Long Battle with Cancer Videos & Features Tragedy Overshadows MC Alger Championship Celebration: One Fan Dead, 11 Injured After Stadium Fall Lifestyle Get to Know 2025 Eid Al Adha Prayer Times in Egypt Business Fear & Greed Index Plummets to Lowest Level Ever Recorded amid Global Trade War News Flights suspended at Port Sudan Airport after Drone Attacks News "Tensions Escalate: Iran Probes Allegations of Indian Tech Collaboration with Israeli Intelligence" Videos & Features Video: Trending Lifestyle TikToker Valeria Márquez Shot Dead during Live Stream Technology 50-Year Soviet Spacecraft 'Kosmos 482' Crashes into Indian Ocean

Synagogue door set alight and restaurant stormed in latest antisemitic attacks in Australia
Sydney CNN — A man set the door of a synagogue alight and a group of protesters stormed an Israeli restaurant in Melbourne on Friday night, the latest in a wave of antisemitic attacks in Australian cities. About 20 people were inside the synagogue in the downtown area of East Melbourne when a man poured flammable liquid on the front door of the synagogue on Albert Street before setting it on fire, Victoria state police said. The group was having Shabbat dinner, marking the beginning of the Jewish day of rest, when the attack took place at 8 p.m. local time, Alex Ryvchin, the co-CEO of the Executive Council of Australian Jewry (ECAJ), wrote on X. No one was injured and firefighters extinguished the small blaze, police said, adding that the perpetrator, who remains unidentified, fled the scene. Just over 1 kilometer to the west on Hardware Lane – one of the city's most popular areas for restaurants and nightlife – about 20 protesters stormed into an Israeli restaurant, chanting slogans, police said. A 28-year-old was arrested for hindering police, and has been released on a summons. The group was chanting 'Death to the IDF' before arriving at the restaurant, CNN affiliate Nine News reported, citing witnesses. Staff at the restaurant, Miznon – which launched in the Israeli commercial hub Tel Aviv in 2011 before opening a branch in Melbourne – acknowledged the incident when contacted by CNN. Speaking at a press briefing, Acting Commander Zorka Dunstan of Victoria state police said officers were also investigating a third attack early Saturday morning in which three cars were set on fire near a business in the northeastern suburb of Greensborough. Suspects spray-painted the cars and the walls of the buildings, she said, adding that the business has been targeted by pro-Palestine protesters in the past. The security investigation unit, part of the counter-terrorism command, is investigating all the incidents, though police have yet to declare whether they constitute a terrorism incident, Dunstan said. 'We will examine the intent and the ideology of the persons or person involved,' she said. Many among Australia's 117,000-strong Jewish population are anxious after spate of antisemitic attacks in the country's two biggest cities, Sydney and Melbourne, since late last year – including arson attacks on synagogues, and swastikas scrawled on buildings and cars. The latest attacks drew condemnation from officials and community leaders on Saturday. Denouncing the synagogue attack on X Saturday, Premier of Victoria Jacinta Allan said it was 'designed to shatter…peace and traumatize Jewish families.' 'That it happened on Shabbat makes it all the more abhorrent,' she added, noting that children and women were among the people present at the venue. 'Any attack on a place of worship is an act of hate, and any attack on a Jewish place of worship is an act of anti-Semitism,' she said. Melbourne's Lord Mayor Nicholas Reece described the attack as 'shocking,' according to Nine News. 'I cannot condemn this sort of behavior in stronger terms… this is a city of peace and tolerance, and we will not stand for this,' he said. Ryvchin, from the ECAJ, urged the nation to condemn 'these deplorable crimes.' 'Those responsible cannot be reasoned with or appeased. They must be confronted with the full force of the law,' he wrote on X. Israeli President Isaac Herzog joined in condemning the attacks in a post of his own on X, urging Australian officials to 'take all steps necessary to protect their Jewish citizens.' 'This is not the first such attack in Australia in recent months,' Herzog wrote. 'But it must be the last.' Likewise, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office released a statement Saturday calling on Australia 'to take all necessary measures to bring the perpetrators to justice and to prevent such attacks in the future.' This story has been updated with additional developments.

Israa Farhan At least nine people were killed and four others injured in a deadly attack by Boko Haram militants in Nigeria's northeastern Borno State, according to local authorities. The assault took place in the Malam Fatori area, near the border with Chad and approximately 270 kilometers from Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State. Governor Babagana Zulum confirmed the incident, stating that security forces have launched sweeping operations in the region to track down those responsible. Borno remains one of the most affected areas in Nigeria by extremist violence. The region has endured relentless assaults from Boko Haram, a jihadist group notorious for targeting both civilians and security personnel in its bid to establish control and spread its radical ideology. The renewed violence underscores ongoing security challenges in northeastern Nigeria, where millions have been displaced and thousands killed over the past decade due to insurgent activity. Authorities continue to call for stronger military and regional cooperation to counter militant threats along the porous borders with neighboring countries such as Chad and Niger. read more Gold prices rise, 21 Karat at EGP 3685 NATO's Role in Israeli-Palestinian Conflict US Expresses 'Strong Opposition' to New Turkish Military Operation in Syria Shoukry Meets Director-General of FAO Lavrov: confrontation bet. nuclear powers must be avoided News Iran Summons French Ambassador over Foreign Minister Remarks News Aboul Gheit Condemns Israeli Escalation in West Bank News Greek PM: Athens Plays Key Role in Improving Energy Security in Region News One Person Injured in Explosion at Ukrainian Embassy in Madrid News Israeli-Linked Hadassah Clinic in Moscow Treats Wounded Iranian IRGC Fighters News China Launches Largest Ever Aircraft Carrier Sports Former Al Zamalek Player Ibrahim Shika Passes away after Long Battle with Cancer Videos & Features Tragedy Overshadows MC Alger Championship Celebration: One Fan Dead, 11 Injured After Stadium Fall Lifestyle Get to Know 2025 Eid Al Adha Prayer Times in Egypt Business Fear & Greed Index Plummets to Lowest Level Ever Recorded amid Global Trade War News Flights suspended at Port Sudan Airport after Drone Attacks News "Tensions Escalate: Iran Probes Allegations of Indian Tech Collaboration with Israeli Intelligence" Videos & Features Video: Trending Lifestyle TikToker Valeria Márquez Shot Dead during Live Stream Technology 50-Year Soviet Spacecraft 'Kosmos 482' Crashes into Indian Ocean
