Football comes home: Jubilant fans greet Lionesses on return to England
Supporters, many of whom were dressed in England kits and holding flags, cheered as they waited outside Southend Airport in Essex to greet the Lionesses.
Among them were twins Poppy and Daisy Macdonald, 11, from Benfleet, Essex, who were holding a sign asking for a photo with star striker Alessia Russo.
Poppy said: 'We're so proud. They've won it two times in a row and they've worked so hard for it.
'They've had a lot of injuries and setbacks but they've done really well.'
Daisy admitted she struggled to watch the penalty shootout, adding: 'I couldn't watch, I was very nervous, but very happy that they won.'
In a post on X, the team shared a photo of the Euros trophy draped in an England flag on a seat on the plane.

The team will be welcomed to a celebratory reception at Downing Street later on Monday, hosted by Deputy Prime Minister Angela Rayner and sports minister Stephanie Peacock.
Team captain Leah Williamson was seen smiling and holding the Euros trophy as the team left their hotel in Zurich and began their journey home in the rain.
Other team members, wearing their medals, smiled as they high-fived supporters waiting outside the building and signed autographs.

Lauren Hemp was seen carrying a Beauty and the Beast castle made out of Lego on her journey home.
Other players have discussed hobbies outside of football which they have used to help unwind during the tournament, with star striker Michelle Agyemang revealing she had brought a piano with her to Switzerland.
Tuesday will see the team enjoy an open-top bus procession along The Mall and a ceremony in front of Buckingham Palace.
However, the Lionesses began their celebrations in Switzerland and can be seen cheering, raising a glass and dancing with Reggie, the dog, in a video posted on the team's official social media accounts.
The team can be seen wearing their gold medals, chanting the white Cavapoo's name and waving his paw after the match.
Reggie belongs to Cheals on Wheels, a barista company that travelled with the team to the tournament.
Posting on Instagram, the company wrote that Reggie had 'gone international' and was 'soaking up all the love (and sneaky treats) from the team' in Switzerland.
After the game, the King said the team had the royal family's 'warmest appreciation and admiration' in a post on X, adding: 'The next task is to bring home the World Cup in 2027 if you possibly can'.
A trip to Buckingham Palace or Windsor Castle may be on the cards for the winning squad as it is understood possible plans for a reception in the autumn are being explored by royal aides.
Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer hailed the team's triumph, saying the Lionesses had 'once again captured the hearts of the nation' and were 'an inspiration for young people across the country'.
Alessia Russo gave the Lionesses hope of retaining their Euros title with her second-half equaliser after Mariona Caldentey netted the opener for Spain in the 25th minute. The Lionesses went on to triumph 3-1 on penalties.
A picture of the Prince of Wales with his arm around his daughter Princess Charlotte was posted to X, with the caption 'champions of Europe'.
At the presentation ceremony, William congratulated Agyemang on being named young player of the tournament, appearing to say 'well played, fantastic, well done' at the presentation ceremony.

Agyemang, 19, who had one England cap before the tournament, scored crucial equalisers in the Lionesses' quarter-final and semi-final comebacks.
On Monday, a mural at Russo's first grassroots club, Bearsted FC, was unveiled to mark the victory and celebrate National Lottery funding for the game.
The red, white and blue image depicts the player alongside a St George's cross and a roaring lioness at the club in Maidstone, Kent.
To celebrate the win, the Royal Mail will mark the occasion with a congratulatory postmark – which will be applied to stamped mail across the UK from Monday to Friday.
Fans can attend the homecoming celebrations in London for free and it will be broadcast live on BBC, ITV, and Sky.

Again. on Sunday with a dramatic win against Spain. 7 The Lionesses received a heroine's welcome upon their arrival back in the UK, with hundreds flocking to Southend Airport to catch a glimpse of the trophy and thousands lining the Mall in London for a huge homecoming. Over 16million people watched the final on British television, making it the most-viewed event of the year so far. Now, there is hope that those figures will translate to a surge in the WSL 's popularity. But how can the league make sure that happens? KEEP THE GAME ACCESSIBLE ONE of the key factors that attracts so many people to the WSL and the women's game in general is the accessibility. Ticket prices are very affordable, so fans are able to attend games on a regular basis. 7 Champions League winners Arsenal offer tickets from £13.15 per adult, with child tickets costing around £7.40 for Emirates Stadium fixtures. Similarly, treble-winners Chelsea offer tickets ranging from £7 to £15 for their games at Stamford Bridge. Both clubs have also offered season tickets and stadium passes for league fixtures, some of which total less than £100 per person. Keeping ticket prices low also makes it affordable for many families. The women's game has tapped into the family-friendly market for years and continues to do so, which makes it more appealing for parents with young children. For plenty of English fans, the WSL is their child's introduction to football so maintaining low prices keeps it accessible. Clubs might even start to consider offering access to women's games as part of men's season tickets to drive up interest further. USE CLUB STADIUMS ARSENAL have been trailblazers in the growth of women's football in recent years. Last year, the WSL giants made the 60,000-capacity Emirates Stadium their main home in a landmark move. 7 7 And last month it was announced that they will play all of their 2025-26 WSL home games there for the first time. Other clubs have also adopted such an approach, with Leicester playing all of their home fixtures at the King Power Stadium and Aston Villa playing theirs at Villa Park. Furthermore, Everton announced in May that Goodison Park, the club's iconic 133-year-old stadium, will become the home of the women's team from the 2025-26 season. With the men's first team moving to the brand-new Hill Dickinson Stadium, club officials decided against demolishing Goodison and instead allocated the ground to their WSL side. The opportunity will surely see a significant increase in fans going to watch Everton, especially given the nostalgic element associated with Goodison Park. But while the likes of Arsenal, Aston Villa, Leicester and Everton have offered such opportunities to their women's teams, West Ham are still limiting theirs to the Chigwell Construction Stadium in Dagenham. The Hammers did not play a single WSL match at the London Stadium last season, a move that has disappointed fans. For women's football to continue growing in England, more clubs need to allow their women's teams to compete at their main stadiums on a regular basis. THIS summer we finally saw the first £1million transfer completed in women's football. Olivia Smith joined Arsenal from Liverpool in a record move, making her the most expensive female player in the world. 7 The transfer fee surpassed the record previously set when Naomi Girma joined Chelsea from San Diego Wave for £874,000 in January. That month, we also saw Lionesses midfielder Keira Walsh return to the WSL from Barcelona. In recent years, we have seen the likes of Mayra Ramirez and Kyra Cooney-Cross moving to England for significant fees. Keeping top talent in the WSL increases the quality of football which then will continue to increase the viewership. MAINTAIN TV COVERAGE Sky Sports is about to embark on a new five-year partnership with the WSL that will see 90 per cent of the league fixtures broadcast across its channels. 7 The BBC will also show 21 top-flight games every season until 2030 with the remaining fixtures available to watch live on YouTube. In recent years, one WSL fixture has taken place on a Saturday lunchtime, with the remaining ones scheduled for the Sunday. The majority of weekly fixtures have been pencilled in for a 2pm or 3pm slot, with the final game at 6:45pm - a time which has widely been considered unfavourable by regular matchgoing fans. This term, however, the WSL is expected to ditch the late Sunday slot in favour of noon kick-offs for the majority of games. The league is also expected to trial more Friday night kick-offs as broadcasters and organisers continue in their bid to maximise in-person attendances and TV audiences. Most of the proposed slots would not clash with the Premier League fixture schedule, which should allow fans to watch and follow both the men's and women's teams of their favourite club - a move which will hopefully add to the growing viewership and popularity of the WSL in the wake of England's Euro 2025 success.

European champions England to take on China at Wembley in November
The match on November 29 will pit the Euro 2025 winners against the Asian champions as China prepare to defend their continental crown in March next year. The Lionesses retained their European title with a dramatic 3-1 penalty shootout victory over Spain in Basel on Sunday. England head coach Sarina Wiegman said: 'After an incredible month and the celebrations this week, we are already planning ahead. 'It will be special to have a final visit to Wembley this year and something for us all to look forward to once the new season starts. 'Even though we have just finished the Euro, our World Cup qualifiers are not too far away. 'There are not many opportunities for us to play non-European opposition in the calendar, so I am happy we have been able to secure a top Asian side like China for this FIFA window. 'I'm sure China will give us a very different game to what we experienced in Australia. Whenever we face a squad where most of the players are based away from Europe or the United States, it is a new challenge. 'And with the start of the qualification campaign soon approaching, this will be valuable experience with the 2027 World Cup in mind.' Further fixtures for the Lionesses in October and November are set to be announced.
