Eidul Azha: CM orders foolproof security arrangements
The CM also issued a comprehensive set of instructions to ensure smooth traffic flow, public safety, and strict monitoring of transport fares and cattle markets.
The CM directed the authorities concerned to enhance security arrangements in and around cattle markets, which were expected to see heavy public presence during the Eid season.
The CM emphasized that security at all cattle markets must be tightened, particularly in major cities like Lahore and Multan, to safeguard citizens and prevent any untoward incidents.
The CM Maryam directed that traffic monitoring be carried out round-the-clock in Lahore and other urban centers to manage congestion caused by Eid-related activities. Instructions were issued to improve traffic flow around cattle markets in key cities and to deploy traffic personnel where needed.
To ensure fair treatment of the public during the festive season, the CM also ordered strict enforcement of officially approved transport fares across Punjab. She directed that fare charts and fitness certificates be visibly displayed on bus windshields. She warned that overcharging the passengers would not be tolerated. Transporters found violating fare regulations would face legal action and commuters charged extra must be refunded on the spot.
The CM directed the Livestock Department officials to remain present at cattle markets, to monitor animal health, ensure availability of veterinary services and assist the public in purchasing healthy animals.
She directed senior administrative and police officers to remain in the field during the Eid holidays, ensuring timely response and on-ground supervision of all arrangements.
She called for continuous monitoring of the situation at the provincial, divisional, district and tehsil levels.

Man arrested for keeping lion without license
LAHORE: The Punjab Wildlife Department on Friday apprehended an accused on the charges of keeping a lion without a license and transferred the lion to a security facility after recovering it. The lion attacked and injured three persons including two children after escaping from a farm house in Shah Di Khoi area. The injured were rushed to hospital while owner of the lion escaped the scene to save their pet. Senior Provincial Minister Maryam Aurangzeb strongly condemned the incident, stating that those injured during related incidents were immediately shifted to the hospital and are currently under treatment. She directed authorities to launch a strict crackdown against individuals keeping wild animals illegally. The Wildlife Department has lodged an FIR, stating that keeping a lion without a license and proper safety measures constitutes a non-bailable offense under current laws, carrying a punishment of up to seven years imprisonment and a fine of five million rupees. Under the new wildlife regulations, a formal permit, a cage of specified size, and full compliance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) are mandatory for keeping any wild animal. Officials confirmed that enforcement of wildlife laws is being carried out rigorously as part of an environmental protection mission under the special directives of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz. The Wildlife Department has appealed to the public to immediately report any information about individuals keeping lions or other wild animals illegally by calling helpline 1107. Maryam Aurangzeb firmly stated that no one will be allowed to endanger human lives, and those keeping wild animals must fulfil all legal requirements. Otherwise, they will face strict legal action and penalties. The Wildlife Department has reiterated that no leniency will be shown to those keeping wild animals without licenses, and legal action will be taken to ensure the safety of both humans and wildlife. Dr Yasmin's bail plea: hearing adjourned
LAHORE: An anti-terrorism court on Friday adjourned proceedings on the bail petitions of former provincial minister Dr. Yasmin Rashid in five cases of May 9 riots due to the unavailability of police records. Earlier, a prosecutor informed the court that the case records were currently with the Lahore High Court and requested more time to present the same. Karachi building collapse: ABAD for replacing all dilapidated structures with quality edifices
KARACHI: Association of Builders and Developers of Pakistan (ABAD) has proposed voluntarily replacing all dilapidated structures in Karachi with quality edifices, following a deadly building collapse in Lyari that claimed eight lives and left up to 25 others trapped under debris. The tragic incident occurred in the Baghdadi area of Lyari when a six-story residential building housing 20 apartments collapsed, killing eight people including a seven-year-old boy. The building, constructed in 1974 and home to six families, had been previously declared dangerous by city authorities, but no action was taken to relocate residents or reconstruct the structure. The collapse has reignited concerns about Karachi's building safety crisis, with over 400 structures in the city officially classified as dangerous. The incident highlights 'professional incompetency and high misconduct' within the Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA), which has allegedly enabled the mushroom growth of illegal construction throughout the city. According to the records, approximately 100,000 illegal residential buildings have been constructed in Karachi over the past decade, allegedly with the connivance of SBCA officials. Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab responded to the tragedy by placing responsibility on the victims themselves. 'Today's unfortunate event is proof that when the government tells you something, listen,' Wahab said, acknowledging that authorities had only warned the inhabitants about the building's dangerous condition. The mayor admitted that more than 400 buildings in Karachi have been declared dangerous, saying that the government faces two options: 'either persuade people to leave or evict them forcefully.' However, he noted that administrations typically prefer persuasion over force. ABAD Chairman Muhammad Hassan Bakshi while expressing his condolence over the tragic incidents, said: 'Despite raising concerns multiple times, the Sindh government has failed to take effective action against illegal construction'. 'The lack of effective action has worsened the situation,' Bakshi said, warning that illegal constructions use poor quality materials and lack professional oversight, greatly endangering public safety. He offered a comprehensive solution to address the city's unsafe building crisis, saying that ABAD is ready to replace dilapidated structures with high-rise buildings meeting international standards. The proposal includes providing free, safe, and modern housing to current residents, contingent on appropriate legislation from the Sindh Assembly to proceed legally. He urged the Sindh government to urgently survey dangerous buildings, begin evacuations, and seriously consider ABAD's offer to ensure the long-term safety of Karachi's citizens.
