Oman International Drift Championship to make first appearance in Suhar
The globally recognised drifting spectacle — organised by the Oman Automobile Association — is in its seventh edition, attended by 56 drivers from 18 countries.
Sohar Talent Square, a new venue that will be officially inaugurated during the finals of the second round, will stage the intense drift action.

The qualifiers for the second round will begin on February 13 with the knockout stage set for February 14.
The first round, which concluded at OAA's Muscat Drift Arena on January 31, saw former champion Ali Makhseed of Kuwait claiming the opening victory of OIDC 2025 when he beat local hope Ahmed al Amri.
Dutch driver Clint van Oort finished third to make a strong start.
Ali Makhseed and Ahmed al Amri repeated their one-two spots in the Middle East and North Africa (Mena) section while Omani driver Haitham al Hadidi claimed the third position.

In the National category for Omani drivers, Ahmed al Amri came on top followed by Haitham al Hadidi and Tariq al Shaihani in second and third spots respectively.
SUHAR IN FOCUS
The drifting action is the second major motorsports event coming to the city after the recently concluded Oman International Rally 2025, won by Qatar's Nasser Saleh al Attiyah for a record-breaking eighth time.
The drift event is organised in collaboration with the Office of the Governor of Al Batinah North and the Oman Automobile Association, as part of efforts to strengthen Oman's presence on the international motorsport scene.

The OIDC 2025 will conclude with the third and final round at Sohar Talent Square on February 20 and 21.
The overall winners in various categories will be crowned after the third round.
The event is being organised by the OAA under the chairmanship of Brigadier Jamal bin Said al Tai, managing director Suleiman al Rawahi and race director Fahmi al Busaidy.

MUSCAT, JULY 16 The Omani national wheelchair basketball team secured an important victory over the Bahraini Al Ittihad team with a score of 68-49, as part of the 9th West Asian Club Championship, hosted in the Jordanian capital, Amman, from July 13 to 19, 2025. The tournament is held under the supervision of the Asian Federation and hosted by the Ajyal Al Ghad Club, with matches taking place at Prince Hamzah Hall in the Hussein Youth City. The Omani team started the game cautiously in the first quarter, struggling to penetrate the Bahraini defense, which resulted in a limited number of points. Oman set for WC 2026 playoff draw
MUSCAT, JULY 16 The Oman national football team will learn their fate in the decisive stage of the Fifa World Cup 2026 qualifiers as the playoff round draw will take place on Thursday at 11:00 am (Oman time). The draw which will be held at the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) headquarters in Malaysia, will mark the beginning of Oman's last and most crucial push to achieve a historic maiden qualification to the Fifa World Cup. The forthcoming phase of Oman's football will be led by the veteran Portuguese tactician Carlos Queiroz, who was officially appointed as head coach on Tuesday by the Oman Football Association (OFA). The OFA confirmed the appointment via an official media statement on its social media platforms, expressing confidence in Queiroz's ability to take Red Warriors into new heights. Queiroz, whose illustrious coaching career includes spells with the national teams of Iran, Egypt, Colombia, and South Africa, as well as a tenure as assistant manager of Manchester United, will bring a wealth of tactical international experience.
