ONE 172: Superlek Kiatmuu9 out to make short work again of 1.93-metre Nabil Anane in Tokyo

Superlek Kiatmuu9 is a name that will be talked about in Muay Thai circles through the ages. Already a veteran of more than 170 fights, with a trophy cabinet fit to burst, he is 'built different'. If he were to retire tomorrow, he would go down as one of the best fighters to ever pick up the gloves.

On Sunday at Japan's Saitama Super Arena, the 29-year-old has a chance to enhance his legacy further by shutting down Nabil Anane – one of the most exciting young talents in the game – again.
In 2023, he faced a unique challenge in Anane, one of the most dangerous rising stars in the division. At 6 feet 4 inches (1.93 metres) tall, the Thai-Algerian fighter boasted a huge reach and an iron will, making him an opponent most would rather avoid.
But Superlek made short work of him, knocking him out with a body shot in the first round and dishing out the first knockout loss of Anane's career.
Since then, Anane has put together a six-fight winning streak and has evolved significantly. He will look to prove that he is the future of Muay Thai.

‘I want to be first Polish world champion' – Kierczynska's ONE Championship aim

A certain brash Irishman once made a phrase synonymous with combat sports: 'We're not here to take part, we're here to take over.' Advertisement Martyna Kierczynska is anything but brash, but she would almost certainly subscribe to Conor McGregor's sentiment. Quietly confident, respectful, and technically gifted, the Polish phenom carries herself with conviction – and believes she belongs at the top. The 23-year-old Muay Thai standout is preparing for her third appearance in ONE Championship and has made no secret of her long-term goal. 'I want to be the first Polish world champion in ONE Championship,' Kierczynska told the Post. 'That's my goal; I'm doing everything I can to be on top.' Originally scheduled to face Scotland's Amy Pirnie in Bangkok, Kierczynska was handed a late opponent switch when Pirnie withdrew. Stepping in will be Cynthia Flores, a 30-year-old from Mexico with a WBC international title on her resume.

ONE Championship: Younes Rabah hopes to seal top 5 spot by beating Shadow Singha Mawynn

Algerian Muay Thai stand-out Younes Rabah knows that victory over Shadow Singha Mawynn in the co-main event at ONE Fight Night 33 on July 12 in Bangkok will all but guarantee him a place in the featherweight Muay Thai top five – where the Thai star currently sits after a surging five-fight winning streak. 'I just feel excited for this new challenge for me,' Rabah told the Post. 'I feel like I'm taking one more step towards achieving my goal.' Shadow, who is ranked third after his winning run, has defeated a who's who of elite strikers, including Hassan Vahdanirad, Sitthichai Sitsongpeenong, Mohammad Siasarani, Jimmy Vienot and Erik Hehir – two of those wins coming by stoppage. But Rabah was not that impressed. 'Shadow is talented, he's very strong, he has all the tools to be a good name,' Rabah said. 'But none of the guys he's fought have the same style I have. They don't have the range, the reach, the power. I think it's a big challenge for both of us.' Play Rabah is on the periphery of the top five after beating the United States' Eddie Abasolo at ONE 169 in Bangkok last November and feels that moving up in weight has unlocked his true potential.
