WATCH: Children fall from airborne jumping castle
Two young children sustained serious injuries last weekend when a jumping castle was swept into the air during a school festival in Krugersdorp.
The inflatable structure, allegedly unsecured, was lifted by a gust of wind while two junior jumpers were still inside. Both children fell from the airborne castle as it tumbled above the school grounds.

The incident occurred at Protearif Laerskool's Protea Fees (festival), an event hosted on the school premises.

These are Gauteng's hotspots for murder, rape, kidnapping, carjacking and house robbery
Between January 2025 and March 2025, Gauteng recorded an increase in kidnappings, said Gauteng police commissioner Lieutenant-General Tommy Mthombeni on Thursday.
Through the National Anti–Kidnapping Unit, the province arrested 88 suspects linked to 62 cases of kidnapping and rescued 77 victims of kidnapping during the period under review.

'We are working together with our stakeholders to combat the kidnapping syndicates operating in this province. We are thankful to Business Against Crime South Africa for our partnership through the Eyes and Ears Initiative and are able to deploy their technological resources and utilise security officers as force multipliers when conducting take-down operations,' said Mthombeni.

South Africa's largest beef producer, Karan Beef, has reassured consumers that its meat remains safe despite an outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) at its Heidelberg feedlot in Gauteng.
The beef producer confirmed the news of the outbreak earlier this week. Gauteng is one of the provinces in the country with the FMD cases. The others include Limpopo, Eastern Cape, Mpumalanga and KwaZulu-Natal.

The outbreak comes at a time when the poultry industry is divided over the ban on chicken imports from Brazil. Most chicken consumed in the country is imported from Brazil. Some say the ban will cause a shortage in the country, while others argue that South Africa can produce enough chicken.

Surprises in Rassie's first Bok squad of 2025, nine uncapped players included
Varsity Cup player Ntokozo Makhaza is one of nine uncapped players selected for Rassie Erasmus' Springbok training squad for the opening stages of the international season, which kicks off on 28 June against the Barbarians, followed by the Castle Lager Incoming Series.
The Springbok boss named the same 54 players who attended the squad's second national alignment camp in Cape Town, including 31 Rugby World Cup players. Thirty forwards and 24 backs are in the mix.

The nine uncapped players are Marnus van der Merwe, Neethling Fouche, Asenathi Ntlabakanye, Cobus Wiese, Renzo du Plessis, Vincent Tshituka, Juarno Augustus, Ethan Hooker, and Makhaza.

Not just Siya - 'Connie Ferguson' appears in AI investment scam
Scammers are using sophisticated technology to dupe the public into another investment scam, this time involving actress Connie Ferguson. Like Springbok captain Siya Kolisi, the veteran TV star's image has been doctored using AI. On the X platform, South Africans have been sharing videos of another investment scam, this time using popular TV veteran Connie Ferguson. Using AI technology, the actress appears to tell the public: 'This business is 100% legit and has helped so many lives out there. Trust me, you will never regret doing business with me.' Earlier this week, Siya Kolisi's likeness appeared in an AI video, accompanied by the voice in an accent of what seemed to be a Nigerian man. On her official Instagram account, Connie Ferguson recently alerted the public to another scam, this time using an old clip of her. The actress posted screenshots of the scammer who sent her WhatsApp messages, ironically pretending to be her. Cautioning her followers, Connie Ferguson captioned the clip: 'SCAMMERS ARE DOING THE MOST! Be vigilant! I DO NOT offer any investment opportunity in business! Thieves are AI now to convince you that they are whoever they say they are! 'Do not easily part with money you worked so hard for! If it's too good to be true, it usually is! 'Nigerian scammers' use Siya Kolisi to dupe public in AI video
Springbok captain Siya Kolisi's likeness has been used by 'Nigerian scammers' who created an AI video featuring the popular player. In the video, 'Siya' appears to encourage his followers to engage in an investment scheme. On the X platform, an AI-created video of Siya Kolisi has left many South Africans amused and confused. The clip features the Springbok captain's likeness, encouraging the public to 'invest' in a programme that could generate high interest. Speaking in a 'Nigerian' accent, the man South Africans recognise as Kolisi says: 'I guarantee that everyone who registers this month and invests the minimum amount of R4 400 will be able to earn their first R100 000 Seemingly trying to convince the public, 'Siya Kolisi' added, 'I have no need to lie. I use this project myself, from which I receive additional high income. It is completely transparent, legal, and has already helped thousands of people around the country. 'I will show proof that it really works'. On X, South Africans have been amused and somewhat amazed at the creativity of scammers. Siya Kolisi has yet to respond to the scam's use of his image. Siya Kolisi is not the first Springbok to be used to prey on the public in a scam. In 2019, SA Rugby issued a stern warning to the public about social media posts using coach Rassie Erasmus to try to lure money from them. The posts featured fake screenshots of articles from reputable publications. SA Rugby shared: 'The authors are trying to steal your money. And for absolute clarity, Rassie – or any other Springbok personality whose identity may be hijacked – does not have investing advice for you; does not want you to send money to him or her, and is not recommending any kind of business opportunity even if it relates to rugby. These are all scams'. It added: 'Please ignore them, keep your money in your pocket and share this advice with any friends who may be in danger of being duped'. Rassie praises process that saw Jasper Wiese suspended
Earlier this week it was confirmed that Springbok No 8 Jasper Wiese has been suspended for four matches as a result of the the red card he received for a 'headbutt' against Italy. Appearing at a full Disciplinary Committee hearing, Wiese accepted that foul played had occurred, but did not accept that the offence warranted a red card. Nevertheless, the ban he received did not come as much of a surprise, and Springbok coach Rassie Erasmus – who has previously raised issues with World Rugby's former disciplinary process – admitted they could have no complaints. 'I thought the whole hearing this morning was top class,' Erasmus commented. 'Jasper got his chance to be honest about what he thinks. 'The way the chair lady ran the whole thing was clear – just the way they listened to what Jasper said. I think getting four matches banned is fair. 'There can be excuses and other opinions, but we were really comfortable. There are good protocols in place with everything, from referee communication to laws to input on high-performance structures to the disciplinary committee. 'It's four games, and we had a really fair trial, and easy to understand. So we are not happy for him missing games, but satisfied with how it was handled,' he emphasised. The eighthman will be back in contention for selection for the last three Rugby Championship matches in September and October. The ban will rule him out of the closing Incoming Series match against Georgia in Nelspruit on Saturday, as well as the first three Rugby Championship Tests against Australia in Johannesburg and Cape Town respectively (16 and 23 August), and the first game against New Zealand in Auckland (6 September). He will be free to play the second All Blacks Test in Wellington (13 September), and the two matches against Argentina in Durban and London (27 September and 4 October).
