Chinese amb. in Cairo: TEDA cooperation zone with Egypt achieves breakthrough
CAIRO - 22 April 2025: Chinese Ambassador to Egypt Liao Liqiang announced that China-Egypt TEDA Suez Economic and Trade Cooperation Zone (TEDA) has recently achieved significant momentum on the financial level as first loan in renminbi worth 220 million yuan has been successfully disbursed to bank roll expansion work of second phase of the zone.
The Japanese ambassador said in a tweet on X Tuesday: China-Egypt TEDA Suez Economic and Trade Cooperation Zone has succeeded in attracting 185 companies, with total investments exceeding dlrs 3 billion and sales value exceeding dlrs 5.3 billion, while tax payments amounted to about dlrs 300 million and provided nearly 10,000 direct job opportunities.
Liao added the area is currently an exemplary leading model of successful industrial cooperation between Egypt and China.

Taarek Refaat The new round of tariffs, set to take effect next week, will immediately push up the cost of many imported goods from affected countries, with U.S. consumers likely to feel the impact in their wallets. While some companies have tried to absorb part of the costs, rising import duties may now force them to pass more of the burden onto customers. Here's what could get more expensive: Computers and Electronics Computers are among the most imported goods in the U.S., according to the Department of Commerce, with top suppliers including China, Mexico, Taiwan, Vietnam, and Malaysia. Chinese imports already face tariffs starting at 30%, which could rise further if no trade deal is reached by August 12. Imports from Taiwan, Vietnam, and Malaysia will see duties roughly double from current levels next week. India, while not a top-five supplier of computers, is a major source of electronics and will face tariffs of at least 25%. Prices for computers have already risen 5% year-on-year as of June, according to the Consumer Price Index. Yale University's Budget Lab estimates the new tariffs could drive electronics prices up 18.2% in the short term (2–3 years) and 7.7% in the long term (3–10 years). Clothing The U.S. heavily relies on imports for apparel, with China, Vietnam, Bangladesh, India, and Indonesia as major suppliers. Tariffs on these countries could raise clothing prices by 37.5% in the short term and 17.4% in the long term, adding pressure on households. Watches Swiss watches, worth over $4 billion in U.S. imports last year, are set to face 'reciprocal' tariffs of 39%. Leather goods, often tied to watch production, could see price hikes of 39.7% short term and 18.9% long term. Footwear China, Vietnam, and Indonesia dominate U.S. shoe imports, which will be hit with at least a 19% tariff starting next week. Leather-based products in this category could see similar price hikes to watches. Alcohol Imported wine and spirits account for around 35% of the U.S. alcohol market, according to the Wine & Spirits Wholesalers of America (WSWA). Tariffs on European Union imports — a key source of whiskey, vodka, and wine — will rise from 10% to 15%. Furniture Vietnam is the largest furniture supplier to the U.S., followed by China. The new tariffs are expected to lift import costs across this sector as well. Toys China and Vietnam lead U.S. toy exports. Industry groups warn that tariffs will increase retail prices, particularly as duties on Vietnamese goods add to existing levies on Chinese products. When Will Consumers Feel the Pinch? Many U.S. companies have stockpiled inventory in anticipation of higher import costs, delaying the immediate impact on retail prices. SpaceX Delivers New Crew to ISS
Israa Farhan SpaceX has successfully transported a new four-member crew to the International Space Station (ISS) after a 15-hour journey from Florida. The Crew-11 mission, part of NASA's routine rotation program, includes two American astronauts, one Russian, and one Japanese. Their arrival raises the number of astronauts aboard the station to eleven. Launched from NASA's Kennedy Space Center, the team will remain on the ISS for at least six months, replacing the current crew scheduled to return to Earth next week. OPEN// FM, US state secretary discuss bolstering bilateral ties
CAIRO/WASHINGTON, July 31 (MENA) - Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty had talks on Thursday with US State Secretary Marco Rubio on means of promoting bilateral ties. The two sides also exchanged views on various regional and international issues of mutual interest. Abdelatty conveyed greetings and appreciation from President Abdel Fattah El Sisi to US President Donald Trump, highlighting Egypt's pride in the longstanding strategic partnership with the United States. The minister said he is looking forward to continuing close coordination and cooperation with the US administration to further ties politically, militarily, economically, and security-wise, thus contributing to regional security, stability, and peace during this critical stage in the Middle East. He also expressed desire to continue holding regular rounds of the Egypt-US strategic dialogue. They reviewed ways to strengthen economic, trade, and investment cooperation between the two countries. Abdelatty praised the results of the Egypt-US business forum held in Cairo in May with over 50 American companies participating, 12 of which entered the Egyptian market for the first time, reflecting Egypt's commitment to attracting investments and enhancing economic partnerships with the US. Both sides stressed the importance of continuing coordination for new rounds of the joint economic commission meetings and the business forum to broaden economic partnership opportunities. The two sides also reviewed the latest regional developments, topped by the catastrophic situation in Gaza, tragic events in Sudan, and conditions in Libya, Syria, Lebanon, and the Egyptian water security issue. Regarding the Palestinian cause, Minister Abdelatty reiterated the necessity of reaching a permanent ceasefire agreement in Gaza to stem bloodshed and ensure humanitarian aid flows amid the enclave's dire conditions under the Israeli blockade. He emphasized the need to adopt a political horizon for a just and sustainable settlement of the Palestinian cause, including the right to self-determination and the establishment of an independent state along the 1967 borderlines with East Jerusalem (Al Quds) as its capital. He expressed hope for continued close US-Egypt cooperation to establish just and comprehensive peace in the Middle East. Meanwhile, the two sides reviewed the situation in Sudan and underlined the importance of ceasefire and humanitarian aid access. Minister Abdelatty affirmed Egypt's support for Sudan's state institutions and respect for its sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity. Regarding Egyptian water security, Minister Abdelatty conveyed Egypt's concerns about Nile water issues and the importance of adherence to international law regarding shared water resources. He highlighted the need for cooperation to swiftly reach a legally-binding agreement on the operation of the Ethiopian dam, rejecting unilateral Ethiopian actions violating international law.
