10 stunningly egregious MLB All-Star snubs in 2025

USA Today16 hours ago
The 2025 MLB All-Star Game rosters are set -- barring players who drop out due to injury and are replaced -- and of course that means it's time to start naming who got left off.
This is also a good place to jump up on the soapbox and complain about how each MLB team doesn't need at least one All-Star. If your franchise stinks right now, you don't need a player in the Midsummer Classic. That's it.
Anyway, that might explain why some of these names were left off the rosters. Either way, let's dive in and talk about these egregious snubs:
SS Trea Turner, Philadelphia Phillies
Elly De La Cruz and Francisco Lindor are in ahead of him, but Turner's having a great year.
SP Cristopher Sanchez, Philadelphia Phillies
He was on this list last year! And now he's having an even better year. What gives?
OF Juan Soto, New York Mets
Despite the extremely slow start, he's picked it up and was just named NL Player of the Month. C'mon! KYLE STOWERS DOESN'T DESERVE A SPOT EVEN THOUGH HE'S THE ONLY MARLIN!
1B Michael Busch, Chicago Cubs
He's been solid, but got robbed because first base is star-studded.
3B Zach McKinstry, Detroit Tigers
Can we have like a utility position in MLB All-Star? Because he'd be in with ease.
SP Framber Valdez, Houston Astros
Another case of positional strength in a league. The AL is stacked with names like Hunter Brown, Kris Bubic, Max Fried and Tarik Skubal.
OF Seiya Suzuki, Chicago Cubs
Dude LEADS THE LEAGUE IN RBI! What more do you want???
SP Joe Ryan, Minnesota Twins
That sub-3.00 ERA is pretty awesome.
OF Andy Pages, Los Angeles Dodgers
Maybe I have bias because he's on one of my fantasy teams, but he's been so good the whole year.
C Carlos Narvaez, Boston Red Sox
Would have been nice to see him in the game, but alas. You can't argue with Alejandro Kirk over him, and there was no way Cal Raleigh was going to be out.

Padres star Manny Machado records 2,000th career hit to join rare club in loss to Diamondbacks

Manny Machado joined an elite club on Monday night in San Diego. The Padres star picked up the 2,000th hit of his career in their 6-3 loss to the Arizona Diamondbacks. Machado officially reached the mark in the fourth inning of the contest, when he hit a single off Zac Gallen that barely made it past shortstop Geraldo Perdomo and into left field. Advertisement Naturally, that led to a big ovation at Petco Park. Machado entered the night two hits shy of the milestone. He hit a single into left field in the first inning, too. He then backed his historic hit up with a solo home run in the eighth inning, too. Machado is now just the fifth active player in Major League Baseball to record at least 2,000 career hits, and the 297th player in league history. He is also just the 12th player to record 2,000 hits with 350 home runs by his age-32 season. The home run on Monday was the 357th of his career. Machado now has 950 total hits with the Padres, who he signed with as a free agent in 2019. That has him in fifth on the franchise's all-time hits list. Machado first made his debut in the league with the Baltimore Orioles in 2012, and he had 997 hits there before he landed with the Los Angeles Dodgers seven seasons later. Advertisement By comparison, Dodgers star Freddie Freeman is the active hits leader in Major League Baseball. He entered Tuesday with 2,357 career hits — though he's nearly 2,000 short of all-time leader Pete Rose. Jose Altuve, Andrew McCutchen and Paul Goldschmit are the other active players over the 2,000 hits mark. Despite a big night from Machado, who went 3-of-5 at the plate, the Padres couldn't rally back to top the Diamondbacks. The loss, their third in five games, dropped them to 48-42 on the season.

CHICAGO (AP) — Joey Loperfido homered and drove in three runs, and the Toronto Blue Jays beat the Chicago White Sox 8-4 on Monday night for their ninth consecutive win. Addison Barger and Nathan Lukes also connected as AL East-leading Toronto improved to 27-10 in its last 37 games. Bo Bichette had two hits and All-Star slugger Vladimir Guerrero Jr. walked three times. At 53-38, the Blue Jays matched the franchise record for most victories before the All-Star break. It's the longest win streak for the team since an 11-game run in August 2015. José Berríos (5-3) pitched six innings of one-run ball, bouncing back nicely after he struggled in a no-decision against the New York Yankees on Wednesday. The right-hander improved to 16-6 with a 2.96 ERA in 27 career starts against Chicago. Mike Tauchman had three hits and two RBIs for the last-place White Sox, who won two of three at Toronto last month. Colson Montgomery, one of the team's top prospects, went 0-for-3 with a walk in his home debut . The Blue Jays opened an 8-1 lead when they scored five times in the sixth. Barger hit a two-run drive off Sean Burke for his 12th homer, and Loperfido chopped a two-run single over a drawn-in infield. Burke (4-8) was charged with six runs and six hits in five-plus innings. The right-hander allowed two earned runs in 16 1/3 innings over his previous three outings. KEY MOMENT Loperfido and Lukes hit back-to-back homers in the fifth, giving Toronto a 3-1 lead. It was Loperfido's first homer of the season and fifth of his career. KEY STAT It was Chicago's eighth consecutive home loss against Toronto. UP NEXT Chris Bassitt (8-4, 4.32 ERA) starts for Toronto on Tuesday night, and fellow right-hander Aaron Civale (0-3, 4.29 ERA) pitches for Chicago. ___ AP MLB:
