Vendors evicted during Prez visit want biz back

Dhanbad: The street vendors in Hirapur protested on Saturday, demanding permission to set up shops at their earlier locations.
The vendors were removed in an anti-encroachment drive which was carried out by the Dhanbad Municipal Corporation (DMC) as a part of cleanliness drive ahead of Murmu's visit.
"We supported the administration, and we were told that once the President's visit was over, we would be allowed to set up our shops again.
This is not just about our business, but our livelihood," said Shyamal Majumdar, one of vendors who led the protests, said.
The vendors argued that during the encroachment drive, they were assured that after the President's visit, the town's beautification efforts would be followed by an arrangement to reinstate them at their previous locations.
"We were promised that we could reopen our shops after the visit, but now, we are left without any means of earning," he added.
One of the protestors, Raju Saw, a fruit seller from the Police Line area, said, "I have not earned a single penny since my shop was removed. I sold my remaining stock at a loss, but I still couldn't recover my investments. I am in debt. The district administration must keep its promise and allow us to reestablish our businesses."

Who is Arvinder Singh Bahal? The 80-year-old adventurer flying to space aboard Jeff Bezos' Blue Origin mission on August 3

Arvinder 'Arvi' Singh Bahal, an 80-year-old adventurer, real estate investor, and seasoned world traveller from Agra, India, is preparing for the journey of a lifetime. On August 3, 2025, Bahal will board Blue Origin 's New Shepard NS-34 space tourism mission, joining an elite group of private citizens who have crossed Earth's atmospheric boundary. For Bahal, this experience goes beyond the thrill of weightlessness symbolising decades of curiosity, courage, and relentless exploration. Having visited all 196 countries and seven continents, his adventurous spirit has taken him from polar ice fields to Mount Everest's skies. Now, at 80, Bahal's leap into space embodies the belief that it's never too late to chase extraordinary dreams and redefine human potential. Blue Origin sets August 3 launch for New Shepard NS-34 space tourism mission: Timing and live streaming Jeff Bezos ' aerospace company, Blue Origin, has officially announced the launch schedule for its next suborbital space tourism mission, New Shepard NS-34. The flight is currently targeted for Sunday, August 3, 2025, marking the 34th mission overall for the New Shepard spacecraft and the 14th crewed flight. The NS-34 mission will lift off from Blue Origin's private launch site in West Texas, near the town of Van Horn. The launch window opens at 8:30 am EDT (12:30 GMT; 7:30 a.m. local time in Texas). For space enthusiasts worldwide, Blue Origin will broadcast the event live, with coverage beginning 30 minutes before liftoff, offering real-time views of the historic flight. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like This Is Why Smart People Put Baking Soda in Their Shampoo Read More Undo Arvinder Singh Bahal's early life and move to the United States Born near the iconic Taj Mahal in Agra, Bahal's childhood ambitions included a career in the Indian Army. However, life took a different course when he shifted to entrepreneurship, initially working on a tea plantation in Darjeeling and later running a garment manufacturing business near Delhi. His life changed dramatically in 1975 when he traveled to the United States with just $108 in his pocket to sell his products. Impressed by the opportunities there, Bahal immigrated permanently, becoming a US citizen by the late 1970s. He built a thriving career as president of Bahal Properties, a real estate firm that provided both financial stability and the freedom to pursue his passion for travel. From Mount Everest to the Pyramids: Bahal's global travel legacy Bahal's life is a testament to curiosity and relentless exploration. He has visited all 196 countries and all seven continents, from the icy frontiers of the North and South Poles to skydiving above Mount Everest and exploring the ancient Pyramids of Giza. He has documented his journeys extensively, maintaining an archive of over one million photographs and authoring travel literature, including 'The Tireless Traveler,' which also serves as the name of his website. His Instagram highlights visits to Sikh shrines, Mongolia's eagle festivals, and even conflict-ridden Afghanistan, demonstrating his fearless approach to exploration. Jeff Bezos' Blue Origin makes Bahal's space travel dream a reality Bahal's fascination with space travel began long before Blue Origin became a household name. Over a decade ago, he reserved a spot with Richard Branson's Virgin Galactic as 'Future Astronaut No. 326,' but those plans stalled when the company ended operations in 2023. Undeterred, Bahal kept his dream alive, and in 2025, it finally materialized with Blue Origin's New Shepard NS-34 mission. The suborbital flight, scheduled for launch from West Texas, will take Bahal and five other passengers—entrepreneurs, philanthropists, and journalists—across the Kármán line, the recognized boundary of space. Founded by Jeff Bezos, Blue Origin aims to make space accessible to non-astronauts, democratizing exploration once limited to government programs. The New Shepard spacecraft, designed for suborbital tourism, has already flown 70 individuals into space and safely returned them to Earth. The NS-34 mission marks its 14th crewed flight and 34th overall, continuing Blue Origin's push to normalize short-duration, high-altitude space experiences. Unlike SpaceX, which focuses on orbital flights, Blue Origin offers a faster, more accessible path to space for enthusiasts like Bahal. Redevelopment row at Shantidoot society sparks political clash in Maharashtra's Kalyan; ex-BJP MLA, Shiv Sena MLA trade charges

KALYAN: A bitter political tussle erupted within the Mahayuti alliance over the long-pending redevelopment of Shantidoot Society in Kalyan, with Shiv Sena (Shinde faction) MLA Vishwanath Bhoir and former BJP MLA Narendra Pawar trading serious allegations against each other. The dispute intensified just a day before Pawar was set to begin a hunger strike on Sunday, 3 August, in protest of the stalled redevelopment work. Pawar accused MLA Bhoir of siding with the builder rather than standing up for the rights of the residents, while Bhoir alleged that Pawar was unnecessarily inciting the issue for political gain. The redevelopment project, affecting 185 residents of Shantidoot Society, was assigned by MHADA in 2012 to Tycoon Realty, a Kalyan-based builder. However, the project remained in limbo for several years. Repeated appeals by residents for intervention have so far failed to bring justice. A meeting of concerned citizens was held on Saturday, 2 August, where MLA Bhoir, Shiv Sena City President Ravi Patil, and Sanjay Patil were present. Speaking after the meeting, Bhoir stated that Union Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, chief minister Devendra Fadnavis, deputy CM Eknath Shinde, and Minister Shambhuraj Desai have taken cognisance of the issue. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like The Role of Cell Lines in Science AskLayers Learn More Undo He assured that a meeting with all stakeholders will be scheduled after MHADA submits a detailed report and stressed that the govt is committed to resolving the matter. However, Bhoir expressed concern over Pawar's hunger strike plan, stating, 'The matter is already moving in a positive direction. Stirring up unrest at this stage is unhelpful.' He appealed to Pawar to reconsider his decision. In response, Pawar launched a scathing attack on MLA Bhoir, saying, 'The people elected him, not the builder. Why is he holding a press conference in the builder's support?' Pawar criticised Bhoir for failing to raise the issue in the Legislative Assembly, which forced residents to seek support from an MLA from Pune. He further challenged Bhoir to join him on the hunger strike if he truly supports the people's cause. The escalating war of words has left residents of Shantidoot Society confused and anxious, as they remain caught in the crossfire between political representatives. No claims or objections on Bihar draft voter list in first 24 hours: EC

The Election Commission of India has said that not a single claim or objection was filed within the first 24 hours of publication of the draft electoral roll in Bihar by any of the 1.6 lakh booth level agents (BLAs) deployed by a several political parties across the state's 90,712 booths. Lulutox Undo As per rules, claims and objections are to be disposed of after the expiry of seven days. The update lists 'zero' claims and objections filed 3 pm on August 1 and 3pm on August 2, by the BLAs appointed by RJD, Congress, CPM, AAP, BSP, National People's Party, BJP, JD(U), CPI (ML) (Liberation), LJP (Ram Vilas), Rashtriya LJP and Rashtriya Lok Samta Party. Live Events "No BLA of any political party has submitted a single case to BLOs during the last 24 hours. This, despite all BLAs having agreed to go through the boothwise draft lists given to them on August 1, carefully," said the commission. On Friday, district election officers of Bihar's 38 districts had shared the draft electoral roll for all 90,712 polling booths with the political parties. It furher provided them the list of electors who were there in the roll as on June 24, 2025, but are not in the draft electoral roll published Friday. On Saturday, RJD chief Tejashwi Yadav claimed his name was not in the roll. The claim turned out to be incorrect as a copy of the draft roll for the relevant booth in Digha assembly constituency lists not only Tejashwi as entry no. 416, but also his wife Rajshree as entry no. 445. The party has Tejashwi had earlier, while objecting to the non-inclusion of Aadhaar in list of documentation accepted under SIR, voiced the fear that his wife, who only has Aadhaar, may not be on the roll. EC is meanwhile issuing advertisements in print, TV and social media to create awareness among the electors of Bihar regarding the option of filing claims and objections. It will also set up special camps in all block-cum-office circles and urban local body offices, from 10 am to 5 pm on all days till September 1. Any elector of Bihar can check his name in the draft electoral roll by filling his EPIC number directly on the EC voters' portal and can also file claims and objections.
