Vendors evicted during Prez visit want biz back
The vendors were removed in an anti-encroachment drive which was carried out by the Dhanbad Municipal Corporation (DMC) as a part of cleanliness drive ahead of Murmu's visit.
"We supported the administration, and we were told that once the President's visit was over, we would be allowed to set up our shops again.
This is not just about our business, but our livelihood," said Shyamal Majumdar, one of vendors who led the protests, said.
The vendors argued that during the encroachment drive, they were assured that after the President's visit, the town's beautification efforts would be followed by an arrangement to reinstate them at their previous locations.
"We were promised that we could reopen our shops after the visit, but now, we are left without any means of earning," he added.
One of the protestors, Raju Saw, a fruit seller from the Police Line area, said, "I have not earned a single penny since my shop was removed. I sold my remaining stock at a loss, but I still couldn't recover my investments. I am in debt. The district administration must keep its promise and allow us to reestablish our businesses."

The district administration assured the vendors of a resolution. Deputy commissioner Aditya Ranjan said, "Officials had been instructed to find suitable spaces for the roadside vendors. We are working on establishing vendors in other parts and some locations have been identified."

KALYAN: A bitter political tussle erupted within the Mahayuti alliance over the long-pending redevelopment of Shantidoot Society in Kalyan, with Shiv Sena (Shinde faction) MLA Vishwanath Bhoir and former BJP MLA Narendra Pawar trading serious allegations against each other. The dispute intensified just a day before Pawar was set to begin a hunger strike on Sunday, 3 August, in protest of the stalled redevelopment work. Pawar accused MLA Bhoir of siding with the builder rather than standing up for the rights of the residents, while Bhoir alleged that Pawar was unnecessarily inciting the issue for political gain. The redevelopment project, affecting 185 residents of Shantidoot Society, was assigned by MHADA in 2012 to Tycoon Realty, a Kalyan-based builder. No claims or objections on Bihar draft voter list in first 24 hours: EC
The Election Commission of India has said that not a single claim or objection was filed within the first 24 hours of publication of the draft electoral roll in Bihar by any of the 1.6 lakh booth level agents (BLAs) deployed by a several political parties across the state's 90,712 booths. The EC added that it had received 3,223 applications between 3 pm on August 1 and 3 pm on August 2 for fresh enrolment of electors turning 18 years on the cutoff dates July 1 and October 1, 2025. Each one of them has submitted their Form 6 with the mandatory declaration, the polling agency said. The party has Tejashwi had earlier, while objecting to the non-inclusion of Aadhaar in list of documentation accepted under SIR, voiced the fear that his wife, who only has Aadhaar, may not be on the roll. EC is meanwhile issuing advertisements in print, TV and social media to create awareness among the electors of Bihar regarding the option of filing claims and objections. It will also set up special camps in all block-cum-office circles and urban local body offices, from 10 am to 5 pm on all days till September 1.
