30-year RWC celebration: SABC will cover 2nd Test between Boks, Italy live
In honour of the Springboks' first Rugby World Cup win in 1995, the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) will broadcast the second Test between the Springboks and Italy live on 12 July.
The news came after an agreement was reached between the national broadcaster, SuperSport and the South African Rugby Union (SARU) on Thursday.
The match will take place at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Gqeberha, kicking off at 17:10.
'The 1995 triumph was a moment that captured the attention of the world – revealing the unmatched power of sport to bring people together, to heal deep wounds and to inspire a country that was still finding its feet as a young democracy,' said SARU president, Mark Alexander at the announcement.
'As SARU, we are working closely with our broadcasters to ensure that all South Africans can be part of this historic occasion.'
Nomsa Chabeli, the SABC's Group CEO, said: 'The public broadcaster extends its appreciation to SARU and SuperSport for the spirit in which negotiations took place to enable us to broadcast this historic match.
'It is important that the SABC is not left out of key national sporting events, which bring the nation together, and rugby has been very instrumental in doing that.
'This agreement also highlights the reach that the public broadcaster has in universal access to the nation through its TV and radio platforms, as millions of South Africans will have an opportunity to witness this historic moment.
'We call upon all South Africans to tune in as we celebrate the 30th anniversary of our Rugby World Cup win in 1995.'
SuperSport CEO Rendani Ramovha said his company was honoured to be involved in the agreement.
'SuperSport is pleased to be able to contribute to the country's celebration of 30 years of Springbok excellence since that unforgettable moment in 1995,' Ramovha said after the announcement.
'That moment united the whole country, and we are honoured to be involved in helping unite the country once more around the Springboks.
'This year also marks 30 years of SuperSport as a stand-alone channel, and we are proud to share this milestone with the most successful rugby nation in men's Rugby World Cup history – the Springboks.'

Confident Furlong wants first Lions series win
Tadhg Furlong has been there, done that and bought the T-shirt. The veteran prop was making his seventh test match start for the Lions and any doubts, anyone had, if he was worthy of his place after two seasons of stop-start rugby for Leinster and Ireland because of niggling injuries were dispelled as he produced a performance to match any in his stellar career. In 2017 Furlong was a member of the Lions squad that lost the first test in New Zealand but came back to win the second and tie the third. Four years later in South Africa, the Lions went 1-nil up before losing the series as the Springboks came roaring back. Furlong has experienced the physical and mental struggles of being ahead and behind in a three-match series and heading into the second test in Melbourne, he's unlikely to hop on an emotional rollercoaster. "There's two sides of the coin," explained Furlong. "Obviously it's on us that we don't get complacent and we learn the lessons. "We have a midweek game again. It's great to see the boys go out and see who puts their hands up. If the lads go well on Tuesday then it will put them in contention. "The other side of that is we know what it means to the Aussies. "The desperation is all in there for them next weekend. "Every series is different but some things remain the same no matter what. "There is a flow to it. The group is edgy. We don't know each other, we don't know the Australians and they don't know us and what it's actually like on the pitch. "You watch all the video. You do all your prep. "There's a realisation after that of what it takes and what it felt like in the game." Furlong was feeling so good on Saturday night that at one stage he threw a 20 metre pass with unerring accuracy, not always a props greatest strength. "A floaty one, he admitted. "I thought it was good. I know it was on penalty advantage but your confidence is there. "It was that kind of game where I was attacking well and getting through a few carries." On his third tour, Furlong has never missed a test match, all that's missing is being part of a series win. He'll get that chance in Melbourne on Saturday.

PFL Africa results: Costello Van Steenis shocks Johnny Eblen, Dakota Ditcheva re-signs after lopsided win
Costello Van Steenis shocked the MMA world with a buzzer-beater submission that rendered former Bellator middleweight champion Johnny Eblen unconscious in the final seconds of their title clash Saturday in Cape Town, South Africa. The previously undefeated Eblen (16-1) — long considered one of the best talents outside of the UFC — was putting on a signature display for PFL's maiden voyage to Cape Town, though cracks began to appear in the fourth round when a calf kick forced him to stumble, prompting Van Steenis (17-3) to let his hands go. It seemed as though Eblen regained momentum in the fifth round when he secured Van Steenis' back with a minute left on the clock. However, the challenger managed to force a scramble, reverse the position and immediately apply a rear-naked-choke. The referee waved off the contest with eight seconds left on the clock once Eblen's arms dropped as the referee checked to see if the American was still conscious. 'Nobody is as strong as Johnny in the first and second rounds,' said Van Steenis after the contest. 'He's the strongest guy I've ever fought with, but everybody has got a gas tank and so do I, but I gave my life for this s***, man. Twelve years in the professional business, started really young, made some mistakes … 16-3, but if you saw those threes losses, man, it was just too early for me. I was fighting legends. But I guess now I'm f***ing legend.' In the night's co-main event, 'Dangerous' Dakota Ditcheva (15-0) appeared to tell her corner that she broke her hand midway through the third and final round of her flyweight bout with Sumiko Inaba (8-2). Nonetheless, Ditcheva's striking arsenal was once again spellbinding at times as knees, elbows, fists and feet thudded into Inaba, who deserves credit for going the distance. The broadcast claimed that the Manchester talent landed 87% of her attempted strikes over the three rounds — 152 of 174 shots — helping pound-for-pound star Ditcheva to a clear unanimous decision win. Having gone the distance for the second time in her career, Ditcheva admitted she was disappointed to sustain a knock after a long period on the sidelines. 'I think I've injured my left hand, but I think I'm even more gutted because I've been out for so long and now I've come back and I'm injured again,' said Ditcheva in her post-fight interview. 'That was the best walkout I've ever had, so I just wanted to say thank you so much,' she added, praising the Cape Town crowd. Interestingly, with speculation rampant concerning a potential future move to UFC, Ditcheva also announced that she signed a new deal with PFL that will keep her with the promotion for the foreseeable future. 'I've just re-signed with the PFL, we've come to a great agreement and I'm going to look forward to the next few years,' she said. A.J. McKee (23-2) negotiated a challenging task put forth by Khabib Nurmagomedov student Akhmed Magomedov (11-2) to get back into the green. McKee jarred the Dagestan lightweight with a body kick just before the bell rang to end the first round. In the second, he showcased his stellar grappling ability, spending the majority of the five minutes on Magomedov's back. Although Magomedov looked to push the pace in the final round, McKee controlled him diligently to see out the victory. Earlier in the night, another Nurmagomedov fighter, Makkasharip Zaynukov (17-4), took victory on the main card, earning a clean unanimous decision nod over Japan's Takeshi Izumi (6-4). Opening the main card, Corey Anderson (19-6) put on stellar debut showing at heavyweight against former PFL tournament winner Denis Golstov (36-9). The former Bellator light heavyweight champion forced the Russian the grapple throughout the contest, and after comprehensively draining his gas tank, Anderson stopped the bout with grounded punches with approximately 90 seconds left in the second round.
