Elderly Polish nationals found dead in Table Bay Harbour: Police investigate suspected drowning
Police are investigating the deaths of two Polish nationals discovered at Table Bay Harbour on Wednesday morning, with authorities suspecting drowning as the likely cause.
While police said they did not suspect foul play at this stage for the deaths of the couple who were both in their seventies, an inquest docket has been opened.
Police spokesperson, Colonel Andre Traut said their teams were called to the scene at the Cape Royal Yacht Club in Table Bay Harbour just after 8am.
The cause of death has yet to be determined and their identities are being withheld at this stage.
'Police were called to the Cape Royal Yacht Club in Table Bay Harbour this morning following the suspected drowning of an elderly couple believed to be Polish nationals in their seventies,' explained Traut.
'At approximately 08:15, police divers discovered the bodies of a man and a woman in the water. An inquest docket has been opened by Table Bay Harbour police to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
'At this early stage, foul play is not suspected. A post-mortem examination will confirm the cause of death, with drowning considered the most likely cause.
'Anyone with information that may assist the investigation is urged to contact Crime Stop on 08600 10111.
'The identities of the deceased are being withheld pending formal identification and notification of next of kin.'

WATCH: Cops caution on rocketing cases of fraud on Facebook
MEMBERS of the Pinetown SAPS detective unit: economic crimes group, have urged the public to remain vigilant and cautious about fraudulent activities which have escalated at an alarming rate in recent months, with an estimated 20 dockets opened daily. According to this group of detectives, headed by Detective Warrant Officer Maxwell Ngubane, the situation has gotten out of control and some of these fraud cases include sales and purchases over Facebook Marketplace. Whether selling or buying on Facebook Marketplace, these detectives strongly advise that these transactions should be concluded face-to-face. Further, always verify with the bank that a payment has been made into your account before releasing goods. 'The fraudsters are clever because in such instances they always use a bank different to the one used by the complainant, and then they will claim to have made the payment and tell the complainant to wait two days for the funds to clear, but then the victims realise afterwards that there are no funds,' said Sergeant Phindile Buthelezi, a member of the economic crimes unit. Also read: Durban Metro back in action with speed timing ops Pinetown SAPS communications officer Jennifer Naidu highlighted the rise of fraudulent activity on the social media platform, with fraudsters promoting ridiculously low-cost products, such as phones and other gifts, in exchange for payment. Naidu said once the payment is made, victims realise they have been scammed, with no delivery of goods and ongoing debits from their bank accounts. 'These fraudsters are posing as legitimate businesses, offering too-good-to-be-true deals. Once you pay, they disappear, and your bank account is continuously debited. Always do your research and verify the legitimacy of such offers before proceeding,' said Naidu. She urged the public to report to the police suspicious activity, remain vigilant and report instances where they have been defrauded. 'If it seems too good to be true, it probably is. Cullinan and Ekangala crime blitz leads to mass arrests, fines
Over 350 suspects were arrested for various crimes, including murder, attempted murder, rape and armed robbery during crime combating efforts. Led by Tshwane District Commissioner, Major-General Samuel Thine, the operation focused on tackling crime in the rural communities of Ekangala and Cullinan policing precincts on July 31. 'SAPS in Tshwane intensified its ongoing efforts to combat crime through the continued implementation of Operation Shanela,' he said. He said SAPS personnel from across the metro were deployed to enhance policing efforts. 'Key activities included continued liquor compliance inspections, the tracing of wanted suspects, and heightened patrols in identified crime hotspots,' he said. He said district detectives made significant progress in their tracing operations, resulting in the arrest of 318 wanted suspects. 'The arrested suspects include seven for murder, three for attempted murder, four for armed robbery and 10 for rape,' he said. He added that a roadblock was assembled in Ekangala, with tactical teams deployed in both precincts to increase police visibility. He stated that, 'This operation led to the detention of 30 illegal immigrants, who are currently being processed for court proceedings and possible deportation.' He said two individuals were fined for employing illegal immigrants. Van Dyk said during the operation, 1 265 individuals and 509 vehicles were searched, with 35 vehicles being tested to verify ownership. 'The operations resulted in the arrest of a total of 360 suspects for a range of criminal offences,' he said. Furthermore, he said patrols were conducted in 20 high-crime areas and premises with two second-hand dealers being inspected and fined for contravention of the Second-Hand Goods Act. 'Traffic officers provided valuable support by issuing 102 AARTO infringement notices amounting to R39 000 for various traffic-related offences.' He then said that, as part of liquor law enforcement, 10 liquor outlets were inspected, with five outlets that were shut down for non-compliance with the Liquor Act. 'Alcohol, three speakers and a fridge were confiscated,' he said.
