Air Arabia-led consortium wins bid to launch new low-cost airline in Saudi Arabia
A consortium comprising Air Arabia, Nesma Group, and KUN Holding has won a bid from Saudi Arabia's General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) to establish and operate a new national low-cost airline headquartered in Dammam.
The carrier will be based at King Fahd International Airport and is intended to boost both domestic and international connectivity for the Eastern Province.
The win marks the result of a strategic partnership among the three firms, aimed at supporting the kingdom's aviation goals and economic development objectives.
'We are proud to have been selected by GACA to launch a new national low-cost airline headquartered in Dammam,' said Adel Al Ali, group CEO of Air Arabia. 'This achievement represents a key milestone that reaffirms our commitment to supporting the growth and development of the kingdom's aviation sector.'

The airline, which draws on Air Arabia's regional low-cost operating model, aims to deliver reliable and value-driven travel for passengers while creating economic opportunities in the region. According to Al Ali, the project will contribute to job creation and the broader economic development of the Eastern Province.

Faisal Bin Saleh Al-Turki, president of Nesma Group, and Mohamed Bin Nabil Hefni, CEO of KUN Holding, called the initiative a direct contribution to strengthening Saudi Arabia's tourism infrastructure and local economy.
'Launching a new low-cost carrier from Dammam is not merely an air transport project,' they said in a joint statement, 'but a contribution to creating high-quality jobs, empowering national talent, and supporting aviation-related commercial activity. We believe this project reflects the private sector's role in supporting the goals of Saudi Vision 2030.'
By 2030, the airline plans to operate 45 aircraft, covering 24 domestic and 57 international destinations, and serve around 10 million passengers annually.
The project is expected to generate over 2,400 direct jobs in the aviation sector and contribute significantly to tourism and economic growth in the Eastern Province.

US aviation regulators said Monday they are investigating a recent close call in which a passenger plane took emergency action to avoid a mid-air collision with a US military bomber. The passenger who recorded the video, Monica Green, said she was "sick to my stomach" about the near miss. Green, quoted by NBC News, said she felt the jet take a hard turn and then "I just remember the plane going, like, sideways... and just looking straight out the window and just seeing grass" with no visible skyline. For the first six months of 2025, SAB generated a net profit after Zakat and income tax of SR4.262 billion, reflecting a 5% year-on-year increase. Total operating income rose to SR7,341 million, supported by higher loan volumes and a strong deposit base. Net loans and advances reached SR283 billion, and customer deposits increased to SR297 billion. Return on tangible equity stood at 15.5%, aligned with the Bank's medium-term performance targets. Lubna Olayan, Chair of SAB, said: 'Our H1 performance demonstrates consistent delivery against our long-term strategy. RIYADH — Saudi Arabia's Digital Government Authority (DGA) has announced the closure and integration of 267 digital platforms across various government sectors as part of ongoing efforts to enhance user experience and increase digital efficiency. The move reflects a broader commitment to improving the quality of government digital services and ensuring platform integration in line with Saudi Arabia's strategic digital transformation goals. According to a statement from the DGA, the closures come under a regulatory framework that includes new governance standards, the adoption of shared technical resources such as the National Single Sign-On system, e-payment gateways, and the Government Integration Channel. All platforms are also required to adhere to the unified design code known as the 'Platform Code,' enabling streamlined and effective digital services. The initiative is part of the 'Inclusive Government' program launched in 2022, which has reduced the number of government digital platforms from 817 to 550 as of the end of H1 2025. The program aims to optimize government resource usage and deliver more efficient and user-centered digital services, supporting the Kingdom's broader digital transformation and improving public satisfaction.
