Jaipur: Padmanabh Singh of Jaipur will lead the Jaipur polo team on Saturday, July 19, at the prestigious Indian Polo Day being held at Guards Polo Club, UK. The day will feature two key matches — the final of the Indian Polo Challenge Shield (18 goals) and the revival of the historic Jaipur Trophy, where Team Jaipur will face off against Guards Polo Club.
Playing alongside Padmanabh Singh for Team Jaipur will be Jaisal Singh, Abhimanyu Pathak, and Daniel Otamendi. The Guards Polo Club team will include Will Emerson (captain), Kuldeep Singh Rathore, Dino Dhankhar, and Vishwarupe Bajaj.
The Jaipur Trophy holds a special place in polo history. It was first presented in 1968 by HH Maharaja Sawai Man Singh II of Jaipur to Guards Polo Club. The inaugural match featured a team led by HRH The Duke of Edinburgh, with a young Prince of Wales playing at number 1.
For many years after, Rajmata Gayatri Devi continued to present the trophy at Guards. The cup was last played in 2011, and now, over a decade later, it is being revived by Padmanabh Singh, marking a proud moment in Indo-British polo relations.
