Driver raced 104 mph because he ‘liked the noise of the exhaust,' FL cops say
The arrest happened just after 11 p.m. Tuesday, June 3, in Lehigh Acres, after a deputy spotted three vehicles traveling at a high rate of speed on six-lane Lee Boulevard, according to a Lee County Sheriff's Office affidavit.
The speed limit in the area is 45 mph and radar 'clocked' the vehicles in the 100-mph range, officials said.
All three were stopped, and among the drivers was an 18-year-old who noted he was 'racing a Dodge Charger because he liked the noise of the exhaust,' the sheriff's office reported.
He was arrested and charged with a street racing/stunt driving violation, and his vehicle was impounded, the sheriff's office said.
Details of the other drivers were not released.
'I have zero tolerance for street racing in Lee County,' Sheriff Carmine Marceno said in a June 5 news release. 'Driving an excessive speed and putting yourself, your passengers, and others on the road at risk is an incredibly selfish decision.'
Lehigh Acres is about a 140-mile drive southeast from Tampa.

Two arrested after shootout during attempted carjacking in Detroit
Two men are recovering from their wounds, and two others are under arrest, in the aftermath of a shootout during an attempted carjacking in Detroit. The incident occured shortly before 10 p.m. Thursday along the Southfield Service Drive, near Joy Road. Commander Vernal Newson of the Detroit Police Department said the victims were in a Dodge Charger when two other men in a blue car pulled up and announced a robbery. A shootout resulted among the individuals in both cars, a witness also opened fire on the suspect's car. "Our robbery detail was just coincidentally in the area. They spotted the vehicle and they were able to take the vehicle in custody without incident," Newson said. Two weapons were recovered, along with ski masks believed to be the ones worn by the suspects. The victims suffered graze wounds and were said to be in stable condition.

Family teams up for arcade robbery, with mom as the getaway driver, FL cops say
A family outing turned criminal when a man decided to rob an arcade and used his mom as the getaway driver, according to investigators in Florida. It happened Friday, July 18, at the Kings World Arcade in Fort Myers, and investigators say surveillance video led to the duo's capture days later. 'This family took game night way too seriously,' the Lee County Sheriff's Office wrote in a July 23 news release 'Witnesses reported a man entered the business, held the cashier at gun point, and fled with an undisclosed amount of cash. Surveillance footage from nearby businesses captured the suspect running and jumping into a RAV4.' Sheriff's office analysts used Department of Transportation footage and license plate reader data to identify the vehicle's driver as Yideyla Suarez Cedeno, 43, of Cape Coral, officials said. She was arrested Tuesday, July 22, and 'her son 22-year-old Jose Baez Surez, was also on scene and detained,' the sheriff's office said. 'Following an investigation by Violent Crimes Detectives, it was determined that Jose Suarez entered the arcade, demanded money and fled while his mother waited nearby, acting as the getaway driver,' officials said. 'Deputies recovered clothing along with a black BB gun, resembling the handgun used in the robbery.' The mother and son have both been charged with robbery, officials said. Fort Myers is about a 125-mile drive southeast from Tampa.

Florida driver yells, ‘Sike!' at cop and flees — only to crash into 18-wheeler
He's not laughing now. A Miami doofus shouted, 'Sike!' at a cop and laughed in his face while starting to flee a traffic stop — only to almost immediately crash his sports car into a tractor-trailer, police said. Eduardo Barbaro Gonzalez, 42, was spotted by a Miami officer engaging in what appeared to be a drug deal in a shopping-center parking lot around 11 p.m. Wednesday when he saw the cop's marked car and tried to pull away in his Dodge Charger. Advertisement The officer pulled his cruiser in front of Gonzalez's car and lowered his window to try and talk to him, telling him he was not 'free to leave,' according to a police report obtained by WPLG. Gonzalez, who was on probation at the time and had eight warrants against him for various crimes, then 'laughed out loud' and said 'Hahaha, sike!' as he pounded the gas and sped off with his tires smoking, cops said. About two blocks later, Gonzalez blew through a stop sign and crashed into an 18-wheeler, according to police. The Miami native was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital, where he gave cops a fake name and birthday. He was identified by his fingerprints, and police learned he had eight active warrants and an open case with the Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office for fleeing and eluding.
