Etoro shares jump 29% after its IPO in the US - is it a buy for UK investors?
The stock settled at $67 per share at the end of trading, up 29 per cent from its Initial Public Offering value of $52, but lower than the $69.69 it opened at.
Etoro shares peaked at $74.23 each, up 43 per cent form its IPO price. At the time of writing, shares in the firm are trading at $62.91, having slipped some 6.1 per cent on Thursday.
Israel-based Etoro had upsized its IPO value to $52 from an expected range of between $46 and $50 apiece.
The result of the IPO gives the firm a market value of around $5.4billion. The firm said it had expected to raise around $217million in its IPO.
Etoro offers trading of both shares and cryptocurrencies, with the latter making the firm $12.15billion in revenue in 2024, quadrupling year on year.
Last year the firm posted profit of $192million, rising from just $15million a year ago.
Writing on the company's website, its co-founder and chief executive Yoni Assia said: 'As a platform built to provide access to the capital markets, becoming part of those markets as a listed company was a natural next step.
'Today, that ambition became a reality, but it is only the beginning.
'We will continue to push the boundaries of what's possible and to build a platform that not only meets the needs of today's investors, but also anticipates the opportunities and challenges of tomorrow.'
Assia told CNBC: 'We felt that we're seeing the light at the end of the tunnel of the correction in the markets.'
Back in 2022, the firm filed for an IPO, before scrapping the plans as equity markets saw a downturn.
The firm was founded by brothers Yoni and Ronen Assia and David Ring in 2007.
It has a popular Copy Trader feature that allows users to replicate strategies of experienced investors and 'smart portfolios' which it says offer diversified, analyst-curated investment options aligned with specific market themes.
The Nasdaq debut, however, comes despite market turmoil caused by Donald Trump's tariffs, which has seen the likes of Klarna and Stada choosing to put their own offerings on hold.
The firm cited the Israel-Hamas conflict as a potential business risk in its IPO filing.
Etoro said: 'As a company headquartered in Israel, there is heightened risk of cyberattacks on our and our supply chain's IT networks in general, and more so as a result of the war.
'Although the current war has not materially impacted our business or operations as of the date of this prospectus, the continuation of the war and any escalation or expansion of the war could have a negative impact on both global and regional conditions.'
Etoro shares are traded under the Nasdaq ticker 'ETOR'.

Report: Dolphins, Minkah Fitzpatrick agree to reworked deal
July 27 - The Miami Dolphins and All-Pro safety Minkah Fitzpatrick agreed to a reworked contract, ESPN reported on Sunday. Fitzpatrick will receive a $16.435 million signing bonus and Miami will save $11 million against the 2025 salary cap, per the report. The Dolphins acquired Fitzpatrick from Pittsburgh last month in a trade that sent cornerback Jalen Ramsey and tight end Jonnu Smith to the Steelers. Fitzpatrick signed a four-year, $73.6 million extension with the Steelers in 2022 and hopes to eventually sign a long-term deal with Miami, according to agent Drew Rosenhaus. "We are comfortable with this commitment to Minkah as we continue to work with the Dolphins on a multiyear extension," Rosenhaus told ESPN on Sunday. Fitzpatrick, 28, is a five-time Pro Bowl and three-time All-Pro selection who launched his career in Miami as a first-round pick (11th overall) in the 2018 NFL Draft. Fitzpatrick recorded 96 tackles and one interception in 17 starts last season. He has 20 picks, 54 passes defensed and 608 tackles in 106 career games (101 starts) with the Dolphins (2018-19) and Steelers. --Field Level Media

Simple savings habit helps Americans dodge recession and build wealth
Americans have been surprisingly strategic with their cash. New research finds that more US consumers are shifting money out of traditional checking and savings accounts and into financial vehicles that offer investment income. It's a trend that helps explain the surprising strength of the US economy — which continues to grow despite high inflation and uncertainty around tariffs. The analysis, conducted by the JPMorganChase Institute, examined the accounts of 4.7 million households. Researchers found that when including brokerage accounts, money market funds, and certificates of deposit, people's total cash reserves are actually rising. That finding offers a fresh perspective at a time when standard bank balances, adjusted for inflation , remain flat and historically low. 'Families across many income bands are now seeing a turnaround in their total cash,' said Chris Wheat, president of the institute. The shift explains a previously puzzling economic contradiction: consumer spending has remained strong , even though checking and savings balances appeared stagnant. So far, this earnings season, companies have continually reported that consumers keep spending cash at record numbers. GM reported a seven percent increase in US car sales . Hasbro said its revenue also shot up seven percent. Delta Airlines beat Wall Street's profit guidance. Some consumers have even had cash lying around to invest in new meme stocks . But that continued spending and stagnant wage growth might have just been a product of Americans making smarter financial moves. Wheat also noted that in today's higher-interest environment, consumers parking cash in accounts that yield returns, rather than making risky, long-term investments. Still, he cautioned that the trend might be temporary, and it's unclear whether it will continue. JPMorganChase Institute also uncovered that the investment shifts were more popular for middle- and high-income earners. The analysis also found that households earning under $35,000 saw their total cash balances increase at an annual rate of 5 to 6 percent. It found the lowest income quartile typically holds just over $1,000 in bank accounts. The median balances of the highest income quartile exceed $8,000.

Cowboys TE Jake Ferguson gets 4-year, $52M extension
July 27 - The Dallas Cowboys signed Jake Ferguson to a four-year, $52 million contract extension on Sunday, making him the highest-paid tight end in franchise history. The deal includes $30 million guaranteed for Ferguson, who was due to earn $3.4 million in the final year of his rookie contract in 2025. Ferguson, 26, caught 59 passes for 494 yards with no touchdowns in 14 games (all starts) for the Cowboys last season. The 2022 fourth-round draft pick made the Pro Bowl in 2023 and has 149 receptions for 1,429 yards and seven TDs in 47 career games (38 starts). According to the Cowboys, Ferguson becomes the seventh-highest paid tight end in the NFL and the extension also frees up $1.8 million toward the team's 2025 salary cap. Although Dallas has locked up a key piece of its offense, All-Pro pass-rusher Micah Parsons still is waiting for his payday as the team prepares for its Sept. 4 season opener at defending Super Bowl champion Philadelphia. The announcement about Ferguson's deal on the team's website said Cowboys co-owner and COO Stephen Jones considers the training camp site in Oxnard, Calif., a "friendly ground for getting contracts one, so Dallas may not be done just yet." --Field Level Media
