Rachel Zegler reveals candid deails about how she reacted following her film Snow White's commercial failure

Daily Mail24-06-2025
Rachel Zegler has revealed details about how she 'wasn't functioning' after the live action remake of Snow White bombed at the box office.
The actress, 24, addressed the backlash that she received and admitted that the conversation around the film made her extremely anxious.
The $270million remake of the 1937 classic was beset by multiple controversies including dumping the traditional 'sexist' romance plot to reimagining the Seven Dwarfs as a diverse group of 'magical creatures' of all heights, gender and race.
The 2025 adaptation was a box office disappointment, with worldwide gross falling short of expectations and estimated losses reaching into the hundreds of millions.
Rachel took the brunt of the blame for the film underperforming its massive budget - grossing just $69million domestically - and becoming slated on film review sites.
Speaking about the effect the film's shortcomings had on her, Rachel told i-D magazine: 'My f***ing psychiatrist has seen me through all of it,' she says.

She said she needed someone to remind her that, "What you're going through isn't normal", that sentence did such wonders for me in multiple situations in my life.'
Rachel also told how she got medicated for her anxiety too, 'which was truly a game changer, because I just wasn't functioning.
'And I wanted to function in a way that made me feel confident in the way I was moving through the world.'
Rachel also spoke about those with a 'victim mindset' and her experiences with perceived negativity, saying:'I think a victim mindset is a choice, and I don't choose it.
'I also don't choose nastiness in the face of it. I don't choose negativity in the face of it. I choose positivity and light and happiness.
'And I do believe at times, happiness is absolutely a choice, and every day I wake up and I think I'm very lucky to live the life I live.'
The lead actress came under fire almost immediately after her casting due to her Colombian and Polish mixed heritage.
Many fans were upset since the original Brothers Grimm fairy tale describes the character as having, 'skin as white as snow.'
Rachel previously said that the origin story has changed, and in Disney's new version the princess earns the name due to a snowstorm she survived as a child.
The lead then came under fire for criticising the 1937 animation, calling it 'dated' during a red carpet interview with Extra TV in 2022.
'There's a big focus on her love story with a guy who literally stalks her. Weird. So we didn't do that this time,' she said.
'We have a different approach to what I'm sure a lot of people will assume is a love story just because we cast a guy in the movie.'
Rachel eventually walked back her comments and assured fans that the love story would be 'integral' to the remake's plot.
Disney fans then expressed discontent at Rachel when she said she was 'scared' of the original version as a child and only watched it one time.
Rachel wasn't the only point of criticism during the making of the film, as the remake's Evil Queen Gal Gadot became a subject of backlash for her stance on the Gaza war.
Gal, an Israeli native who also served in the Israel Defense Force, has been vocal about her support for the country.
Meanwhile, Rachel on the other hand, expressed her support for freeing Palestine from Israel's occupation.
Disney's attempts to make the remake friendlier to 'woke' audiences have fallen flat at times, with actor Peter Dinklage calling out the company's hypocrisy in 2022.
'It makes no sense to me,' he told Mark Maron on the WTF podcast.
'You're progressive in one way and you're still making that f***ing backwards story about seven dwarfs living in a cave together, what the f*** are you doing, man? Have I done nothing to advance the cause from my soapbox? I guess I'm not loud enough.'
The film also suffered yet another rather humiliating blow, with its dreadful 1.5 rating on IMDB currently one of the worst of all time.
A review by Daily Mail's Brian Viner gave the film a pitiful two stars, calling it 'a painfully muddle-headed affair.'
'Disney's contorted attempts not to offend anyone have somehow managed to offend everyone,' Viner wrote.

Mets mascot goes viral after suffering embarrassing comedy of errors on stage with The Lumineers at Citi Field

The person underneath the Mr. Met concert went from singing 'Oh-Ophelia' to saying 'Oh-Oh No' on Friday night after clumsiness struck at an inopportune time. On Friday, the Denver, Colorado-based folk band The Lumineers took to the stage at Citi Field in Queens, New York - home of the baseball's New York Mets. With the Mets out of town to take on the Kansas City Royals, the popular indie band performed to a large crowd on a tour promoting their latest album, 'Automatic'. Playing to that audience, the band decided to bring up the baseball team's popular mascot Mr. Met as they played their song 'Ophelia' - which has over 1.5billion streams on Spotify. Lead vocalist Wesley Schultz attempted to throw a tambourine over a piano and across the stage to the anthropomorphic baseball, but Mr. Met pulled a 'Luis Castillo' and dropped it. But that wouldn't be the end to the embarrassment. As Mr. Met crossed the stage - appearing to wear suspenders rather than his typical jersey - he didn't see where he was going and fell right off. Rough night for Mr. Met at the Lumineers concert — Fin (@jessefinver) July 12, 2025 Credit to him, Mr. Met popped right back up and held the tambourine up as a sign that he wasn't harmed. He was helped up on the stage and continued to dance. If there was any concern for Mr. Met, he took to X and let those worried know that he was okay. 'Don't worry, I don't oppheeliiia too bad. Thanks for having me, @thelumineers!,' read a tweet from the official account. Fans couldn't help but laugh at the absurdity of the entire situation, joking about it on social media. 'this is so f***ing funny i hope they're okay but also mr. met going to the lumineers concert dressed like he's a 2010s hipster at a rustic barn wedding is such a good bit,' one fan said. Another post read, 'You try catching a tambourine when the circumference of your head is infinitely larger than your body.' 'Two errors in one play sums up the Mets the last month,' joked another post. While Mr. Met may be hurting, his team isn't after the Mets came from behind to beat the Royals 8-3.

Yellowstone fans overjoyed as major character announces return

The original Yellowstone series concluded after its fifth season last year, but the Duttons will live on in an upcoming spin-off. The as-yet-untitled series, which is centered around the characters Beth Dutton and Rip Wheeler, will also star Carter in a prominent role, according to Deadline. Played by Australian actor Finn Little, 19, Carter previously appeared on seasons four and five of the original Yellowstone. The character is a troubled teenager and orphan who is taken in by Beth Dutton and becomes a ranch hand at Yellowstone. Fans of the western are already overjoyed by the news of Carter's inclusion, with one commenting, 'Awesome!!! I would be disappointed if he wasn't in the spin off. He's a amazing actor and he worked good with Beth and Rip's characters.' 'I for one am happy Carter will be a part of this spinoff. Carter was the best thing to happen to Beth and Rip,' wrote another. A third commented, 'This is great news. Looking forward to the Beth and Rip spin off!' The Beth and Rip series isn't the only Yellowstone spin-off on the way. Yellowstone star Luke Grimes landed his very own spinoff, which is currently in production. Back in May it was announced that the actor, who played Kayce Dutton on the saga, will be the focus of Y: Marshals. On the show, Kayce will join the US Marshals in Montana. The last time viewers saw Kayce, he had moved to a small part of the Yellowstone ranch. It remains unknown whether the show will feature his wife Monica and their son Tate, played respectively on the original series by Kelsey Asbille and Brecken Merrill. The official logline has Kayce 'combining his skills as a cowboy and Navy SEAL to bring range justice to Montana, where he and his teammates must balance family, duty and the high psychological cost that comes with serving as the last line of defense in the region's war on violence.' It comes after Grimes slammed Yellowstone star Kevin Costner when he said it was easier filming the end of season five without the Hollywood icon. The actor, 41, played the son of Costner's rancher patriarch John Dutton. Costner sensationally left the show before its final half-season, amid explosive reports that he clashed with its creator Taylor Sheridan. In the wake of his departure, Grimes said the last episodes were 'the easiest' to film because 'some of the conflict was gone,' kicking up a flurry of rumors that he had also feuded with Costner, though he denied 'any hard feelings.' Grimes is currently starring in Eddington, a film by Midsommar and Hereditary director Ari Aster.
