A cat that was awarded the freedom of a town in the north of the Isle of Man has been immortalised in famous works of art. Thomas the cat was awarded the freedom of Ramsey last year, after being informally adopted by several retailers. He has been used as the subject for a number of reimagined classic works of art in an exhibition by Mannin Art group, which is celebrating its 75th anniversary.Twenty paintings which feature the famous feline resident have gone on display in various shop windows throughout the town.
Wendy Turner from the art group came up with the idea for the trail and said she hopes it will encourage people from all around the island to visit Ramsey. The trail features a wide variety of reimagined classics, including Munch's The Scream, the Cat with the Pearl Earring, and Whisker's Mother.
People are invited to walk around the town to try to spot all of the artworks hidden among shop window displays.Ms Turner said they were keen to do something special for the occasion and said they had "really enjoyed doing it".
She also hoped the trail would encourage more people to the town and "attract business".She said it would take about an hour to find all the paintings in their various occasion. "You can't tell me in that time that somebody isn't going to want a cup of coffee or a child isn't going to want an ice cream," she said. There are three pieces in St Paul's Square, which Ms Turner described as an "often forgotten area", which they hoped to increase footfall through the trail.
Chair of Mannin Art Tom Field said it also raised awareness of classic paintings, albeit with a feline twist, "some of those paintings are well known... it might interest them in taking up painting too".Having only taken up painting and joining the group in 2020, he said it had become a big part of his life.
He said: "Sometimes I can just sit and paint and focus on it, and it's very peaceful".As well as putting on the art trail, which runs until 22 August, there is also an exhibition of the group's work in St Paul's church hall to celebrate the milestone anniversary.

AI robot 'drills into biggest concerns of our time', Oxford creator says

The creator of the first ultra-realistic robot artist has said that working with a robot has evoked "lots of questions about the relationship we have with ourselves".The artificial intelligence (AI) robot Ai-Da has been devised in Oxford by Aidan Meller, a specialist in modern and contemporary art, and built in the UK by Engineered has been specifically designed as a humanoid to be able to do art and has recently unveiled a portrait of King Charles Meller said Ai-Da and her artwork "drills into some of the biggest concerns and thoughts of our time". Ai-Da has cameras in her eyes, which she uses to take thanks to AI algorithms, she is able to interrogate the image which goes through to her arm to be converted into real-time coordinates - that enables her to hold a paintbrush to paint and draw."You can meet her, you can talk to her using her language model and she's then able to paint and draw you from sight," Mr Meller said."People have got very much 1950s robots in their head - the reality is that actually they're very engaging."It's not until you look a robot in the eye and they say your name that the reality of this new sci-fi world that we are now currently in really takes hold." Ai-Da has been asked to produce and showcase work at the United Nations' AI for Good Global Summit in Geneva, 2024, she did a triptych of Enigma code-breaking mathematician Alan Turing, which was sold for more than £1m at an year, she turned her focus onto King Charles III."With extraordinary strides that are taking place in technology and again, always questioning our relationship to the environment, we felt that King Charles was a really good subject," Mr Meller said that even though Ai-Da had not met the King, Buckingham Palace had authorized permission for the artwork to be asked how she chooses her subjects, Mr Meller said: "Uncannily, and rather nerve-wrackingly, we just ask her". "Ai-Da is connected to the internet [and] she's able to speak at length about different people because she has a great deal of data to hand. "It was through those conversations that the artwork is then able to be done."Ai-Da also painted a picture King Charles' mother, Queen Elizabeth II in 2023. Mr Meller said the biggest realisation from the six years working with Ai-Da was "not so much about how human she is but actually how robotic we are"."Working with a robot is throwing up lots of questions about the relationship we have actually with ourselves," he said."We hope that Ai-Da's artwork is able to be a provocation to have that discussion." My hubby of 12 years got a second wife – he tries to make time for us both but it's hard

A WOMAN has revealed what it's like having a husband who also has another wife. 'A WOMAN has revealed what it's like having a husband who also has another wife. Tami Winder met her husband Colton 13 years ago, and the pair have been married for 12 years. 2 2 The couple are both Mormon and revealed that despite the Mormon church outlawing plural marriage, they still have always believed in "plural marriage". They remained a duo for a number of years before meeting Sophie, who became Colton's second wife. Both 'sister wives' have a physical relationship with Colton, but are not intimate with each other. For the first two years of their plural marriage, Sophie and Tami lived separately, so that they could ease into polygamy. When they finally all moved in together, Sophie and Tami realised that they didn't know each other at all, and struggled to adapt to their clashing personalities. This led to a number of misunderstandings, with Colton revealing that he sometimes felt like he was "standing in the middle of a tornado." Cowboy Colton now spends alternate nights with his two wives, which they both agree is one of the "hardest" parts of the marriage. Tami revealed that at times she feels like she is "falling short" as a wife, which is why Colton has a second wife. However, he insisted that his first wife is "perfect" the way she is. Tami said that she often feels jealous in the relationship, especially when Colton goes on a date with Sophie. First Dates hosts its very first throuple in new series However, she added that if she communicates these feelings to Colton and Sophie, they do their best to "alleviate" her issues. Date night happens once a month, with Colton either going on a separate date with each of his wives, or the three of them going out together. Only Tami is Colton's legal wife, as plural marriage is illegal in the state of Utah, where the trio lives. "Sophie is more of a spiritual marriage", Colton explained. What is polyamory? Polyamory is the practice of having romantic relationships with more than one person at the same time, with the knowledge and consent of all parties. It can refer to relationships where one person has multiple partners or spouses, or where all parties are in a relationship with each other, for example in a throuple. According to You Gov, 6.8% of people in the UK have been in a polyamorous relationship. He added that their way of life is frowned upon and that they live "outside the law." The trio have three children between them, which they all co-parent, and are aiming to continue to grow their family. Tami birthed one of the children, whilst Sophie birthed the other two. Determined to make her brood bigger, Tami is now using IVF, and revealed that she struggles with the fact that Sophie popped out two children in quick succession, whereas she has found it more difficult. "If you're sleeping with the same man, you think it's got to be something to do with you", she said. The trio agree that it can be really hard to live together, but added that it's all worth it because their children make their plural family feel "complete."
