TNAU releases district-level rainfall forecast for Southwest monsoon
The rainfall forecast was calculated based on the Southern Oscillation Index and Sea Surface Temperature values of Pacific and Indian Oceans by using Australian Rainman International V.4.3. software at the university's Agro Climate Research Centre.
The TNAU presented its forecast at 60% probability level. Normal rainfall (±10 per cent deviation from long term rainfall) is expected in most of the districts in Tamil Nadu. Near normal rainfall (-10 per cent deviation from the long-term rainfall) is expected in Coimbatore, Tiruppur, Karur, Namakkal, Thenkasi, Tirunelveli, Tutucorin and Kanyakumari districts of Tamil Nadu.
The predicted rainfall (in mm) have been grouped under different zones.
North Eastern Zone (Normal rainfall in mm, predicted rainfall, and percent deviation in brackets): Chennai (440, 430, -2), Chengalpattu (450, 450, 0), Cuddalore (360, 370, 3), Kallakurichi (410, 385, -6), Kancheepuram (479, 462, -4), Ranipet (450, 430, -4), Tiruvallur (456, 440, -4), Tirupathur (416, 400, -4), Tiruvannamalai (449, 449, 1), Villpuram (405, 405, -5), Vellore (453, 422, -7).
West zone: Coimbatore (210, 185, -12), Erode (260, 245, -6), Tiruppur (151, 130, -14).
North West zone: Dharmapuri (392, 380, -3), Krishnagiri (375, 377, 1), Namakkal (336, 300, -11), Salem (421, 410, -3).
Cauvery Delta zone: Ariyalur (377, 355, -6), Karur (199, 175, -12), Mayiladuthurai (295, 300, 2), Nagapattinam (279, 267, -4), Perambalur (279, 269, -4), Thanjavur (314, 315, 0), Tiruvarur (302, 280, -7), Tiruchirapalli (277, 260, -6).
Southern Zone: Dindigul (308, 296, -4), Madurai (325, 298, -8), Pudukkottai (330, 326, -1), Ramanathapuram (135, 135, 0), Sivaganga (417, 421, 1), Theni (215, 205, -5), Tenkasi (174, 150, -14), Tuticorn (67, 59, -12), Tirunelveli (128, 108, -16), Virudhunagar (190, 175, -8).
Hilly Zone: The Nilgiris (875, 860, -2).

Udupi: Repair roads battered by rains on priority, Rohini Sindhuri tells officials
District in-charge Secretary and Secretary to Labour Department Rohini Sindhuri on Friday directed the officials concerned to repair and restore roads that were battered by recent rains in Udupi district. She was chairing a meeting to review the impact of natural disasters and the functioning of different departments at Rajatadri, district office complex, in Manipal. Ms. Sindhuri said repair works should be undertaken at the earliest to facilitate the smooth flow of traffic. Ms. Sindhuri asked the district administration to provide a weather bulletin on a daily basis to the general public, particularly to the fishermen. She said the fishers should be coaxed to wear life jackets while venturing into the sea. Asking the administration to plan the expansion of Malpe fishing harbour, she wanted the creation of basic facilities at the upcoming Hejmady fishing jetty. She said work on foot bridges should be resumed soon after the rains abate and completed on a priority basis before the next Monsoon. Ms. Sindhuri noted that 487 works out of 525 under the Jal Jeevan Mission were completed and asked the officials to expedite the remaining 38 works. MP for Udupi-Chikkamagaluru, Kota Srinivas Poojary, Deputy Commissioner T.K. Swaroopa, zilla panchayat Chief Executive Officer Prateek Bayal and others were present.

Karnataka Holiday July 25: Schools And Colleges Closed Today In These Districts
Due to heavy rain forecast, all schools, colleges and Anganwadis in Dakshina Kannada will remain closed on July 25, as per the district administration's order Monsoon rains continue to lash Karnataka, and the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast more heavy downpours in the coastal and Malnad regions this week. With alerts issued for multiple districts, authorities have declared holidays for schools and colleges in some areas on Thursday, July 25. A yellow alert has been issued for Bengaluru and interior districts such as Hassan, Kolar, Mysuru, and Tumakuru. On July 25, Bengaluru is expected to witness cloudy skies with thunderstorms, which may lead to waterlogging and traffic disruptions. According to the state agriculture department, ongoing heavy rains have already begun to damage crops like coffee and paddy in districts such as Kodagu, Shivamogga, and Chikkamagaluru. Farmers have been advised to secure their farmland and strengthen drainage systems to prevent further losses. The Karnataka State Disaster Management Authority (KSDMA) has issued a high alert in coastal areas. Fishermen have been strictly warned against venturing into the sea due to wind speeds reaching 40-50 kmph. Residents in low-lying areas have been asked to stay alert and contact local authorities in case of emergencies. The IMD has predicted that heavy rainfall will likely continue across the state until July 26. While coastal districts are expected to see intense rain, moderate showers are forecast in interior regions. Disaster response teams have been kept on standby, and the state government has urged citizens to stay safe and vigilant. Mangaluru Update In Dakshina Kannada, the district administration has declared a holiday for all government, aided, and private schools and colleges, including Anganwadis, on July 25 due to the expected heavy rainfall. The low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal is intensifying rain activity across coastal districts like Dakshina Kannada, Uttara Kannada, and Udupi. Malnad districts including Shivamogga, Chikkamagaluru, Kodagu, and Hassan are also likely to witness heavy showers. An orange alert has been issued for these regions from July 24 to July 30, warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall, gusty winds (30-40 kmph), thunder, and lightning.
