PM Madbouli inspects pilot operation of BRT's 1st phase
CAIRO - 17 May 2025: Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli inspected on Saturday the pilot operation of the first phase of the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) on the Ring Road.
The premier was accompanied by Deputy Prime Minister for Industrial Development Minister of Industry and Transport Kamel el Wazir.
During the visit, Prime Minister Dr. Mostafa Madbouli said he inspected the trial run of the first phase of the BRT on the Ring Road, a project that was considered a "dream" and serves citizens.
What is the BRT project?
The Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project is being implemented by the Ministry of Transport, as an alternative to the fifth metro line that operates on the ring road. The BRT will also be an alternative to the microbus. A service road will be constructed to connect the microbus stops and the new bus stations.
The project is being implemented in two phases, with 49 stations on the ring road, at a cost of approximately EGP 9.5 billion.
The project aims to operate 100 electric buses along the road, and they will be connected to other means of transportation, including service stop points under the ring road, in addition to other means of transportation such as the metro, trains, and superjet.

Egypt, Uganda hold talks on water security, regional cooperation - Foreign Affairs
Egypt's Foreign Minister, Badr Abdelatty, and Minister of Water Resources, Hani Sewilam, held talks in Kampala on Monday with Uganda's State Minister for Foreign Affairs, Henry Oryem Okello, focusing on water security, regional developments, and strengthening bilateral ties. During the visit, Abdelatty handed over a grant of agricultural equipment and light transport vehicles to a Ugandan NGO supporting youth and small-scale farmers. According to foreign ministry spokesperson Tamim Khallaf, Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt's commitment to deepening its historical relationship with Uganda and boosting political and economic cooperation. He expressed support for Uganda's participation in a development project financing mechanism for southern Nile Basin countries, established by Egypt. Abdelatty also underscored Egypt's readiness to expand technical cooperation with Uganda across infrastructure, energy, investment, and development sectors. He called for increased access to Egyptian goods in Ugandan markets and affirmed Egyptian companies' willingness to contribute to Uganda's development, in line with President Yoweri Museveni's priorities—particularly in infrastructure, water, energy and pharmaceuticals. Abdelatty highlighted the role of Egyptian companies operating across the continent, noting Uganda's participation in training programmes run by the Egyptian Agency of Partnership for Development (EAPD), which Ugandan officials described as valuable support for capacity building. The meeting also addressed water security in the Nile Basin. Abdelatty stressed the importance of cooperation based on international law and reiterated Egypt's rejection of unilateral actions in the Eastern Nile Basin that violate international law, saying Cairo would take 'all necessary measures' to protect its water security. Sewilam outlined existing bilateral cooperation on water projects and reiterated that respecting international law is fundamental to ensuring shared benefits for all Nile Basin countries. The two sides also discussed regional developments, particularly the situation in Somalia and the ongoing deployment of the African Union Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM), in which both Egypt and Uganda participate. Abdelatty stressed the need to preserve the unity and stability of Somalia and Sudan, support national institutions, and promote peace and development across the continent. The Kampala visit followed Abdelatty's recent tour of five West African countries—Nigeria, Burkina Faso, Niger, Mali and Senegal—aimed at strengthening ties and enhancing coordination on counterterrorism in the Sahel region. Suplyd Raises $2M to Expand Restaurant Procurement Services in Egypt
Suplyd Raises $2M to Expand Restaurant Procurement Services in Egypt Egyptian startup Suplyd, a digital procurement platform serving restaurants, has raised $2 million in a pre-Series A funding round. The round was led by 4DX Ventures, Camel Ventures, and Plus VC, with participation from Seedstars and existing investors. Founded in 2022, Suplyd helps small and medium-sized restaurants manage procurement more efficiently by directly connecting them with suppliers and streamlining order management. The platform is designed to address major inefficiencies in Egypt's $10 billion HORECA (hotel, restaurant, and catering) supply chain, including fragmented sourcing, unreliable deliveries, and lack of price transparency. Since raising $1.6 million in pre-seed funding in 2022, Suplyd has expanded significantly, growing nearly 20-fold in both the number of restaurants served and the value of goods delivered. The company now serves over 5,000 restaurants and continues to develop new backend operational tools tailored for F&B operators. 'Suplyd has become a key enabler in the digital transformation of Egypt's F&B sector, turning a once-fragmented procurement process into a streamlined, tech-driven solution," Hasan Haider, Founder and Managing Partner at Plus VC, said. The new round of funding will support Suplyd's plans to enhance its procurement platform, develop new service verticals, and expand into underserved areas across Egypt. The startup offers restaurants access to hundreds of products through a single digital interface, replacing daily fragmented orders with a consolidated procurement system. Suplyd also provides real-time analytics and procurement insights, aiming to help businesses reduce waste, lower costs, and improve predictability in their supply chains.

Egypt industrial exports surge to $17.6 bln in H1 2025 - Economy
Egypt's industrial exports have surged by 9.9 percent to an estimated $17.6 billion in the first half of 2025, Minister of Industry and Transport Kamel El-Wazir announced on Monday. This figure is up from the $16 billion in exports recorded during the same period in 2024, Minister El-Wazir said during the sixth Egyptians Abroad Conference in Cairo. El-Wazir added that the increase was a direct result of the country's prioritizing of its industrial sector, according to a cabinet statement. He highlighted the government's strategy focusing on the establishment of specialized industrial cities, such as the Leather City in Rubiki and the Margham Plastic Industries Complex. These are part of a wider initiative to build 16 new industrial complexes across 15 governorates, El-Wazir clarified, adding that the plan is designed to strengthen local manufacturing, bolster supply chains, and create new jobs. Furthermore, he highlighted other key achievements, including the allocation of over 2,000 land plots for industry and the issuance of nearly 2,000 building permits. He noted that the government has supported over 6,000 factories, ensuring that none were forced to close, the statement added. The minister detailed new financing initiatives and legislative reforms aimed at attracting investment. He explained that 5,773 new factories have been granted operating licenses, creating more than 230,000 jobs, and that 987 previously stalled factories have been brought back into operation. This focus on industrial exports is part of an ambitious government plan to boost annual exports to $115.8 billion by 2030 and reduce the import bill. According to the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS), Egypt's total exports reached $44.846 billion in 2024, up from $42.553 billion in 2023. Imports also increased, reaching $94.69 billion in 2024, compared to $84.22 billion in 2023, according to media reports. Follow us on: Facebook Instagram Whatsapp Short link:
