Kolkata: This year's West Bengal Joint Entrance Exam results are yet to be declared, with the timeline lagging nearly 20 days behind previous years', and the board members attributed the reason to their wait for clarification from the advocate-general on the OBC-related matter.
The entrance test for engineering institutes in the state was held on April 28.
An official said the joint entrance exam board had sought clarification from the advocate-general as well as the higher education department. An official said the result was ready but the date would be declared only after they received an update on the issue.
Several students and their parents have written to the board, seeking a dateline, pointing out career decisions depended on it.
Debraj Kundu, a parent of a JEE examinee, who sent a letter to the board, highlighting that the exam was held two months ago, told TOI: "The results were expected in early June but we do not have any idea when it will be released. My son wants to study in Bengal. He has got through reputable institutes in other states, where he doesn't want to go.
But how long can we wait?"

My son refused to take admission elsewhere as he was keen on studying here. But once the state JEE results are declared and he finds his score is not that great, he will be in a fix. The JEE board should decide on declaring the date." The board replied to all, asking them to follow the website for updates.
Without waiting for the latest clarification, Jadavpur University has already opened its arts and science undergraduate admission portal, setting aside 7% seats for OBC candidates, as mandated by the Calcutta High Court's order in May 2024. The applications will be received until July 3. Rabindra Bharati University released an admission notice for fine arts and visual arts, mentioning reservation of seats for different categories would be according to govt norms.

‘Don't know if we will wake up': Israel launches fresh new attacks in Gaza; claims 23 lives
AP file photo In a fresh new offensive, Israeli airstrikes and gunfire have claimed the lives of 23 people, including children, in the war-battered territory of Gaza on Sunday, as per Gaza's civil defence agency, reported AFP. Mahmud Bassal, the civil defence spokesman, told AFP that his services "transported 23 martyrs, including several children and women" who were killed in various locations around the besieged territory. The Israeli military told AFP it couldn't comment on the reported incidents but said its ongoing campaign aims to "dismantle Hamas military capabilities" following the group's October 2023 attack on Israel. Bassal informed that two children were killed in an air strike in their home, which was completely destroyed, in the Zeitun neighbourhood of Gaza City early on Sunday morning. A family member, Abdel Rahman Azzam, 45, told AFP that he had heard 'huge explosions' coming from his relative's house, when he 'rushed out in panic and saw the house destroyed and on fire," he said. "We evacuated more than 20 injured people, including two martyrs, two children from the family. The screams of children and women were non-stop," Azzam said. "They bombed the house with a missile without any prior warning. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Por qué está en boca de todos esta inteligencia artificial que hace dinero? A drone strike on a tent sheltering displaced people had killed five people, including a child near the southern city of Khan Yunis, said Bassal. Four more people lost their lives in an Israeli gunfire in Rafah, also located in the south. In the Northern town of Jabalia, Ahmed Arar, 60, said that his home was completely destroyed after they had recieved a warning from a person identifying himself as an Israeli army officer. "About half an hour later, they bombed the house, and it was completely destroyed," he told AFP by telephone. Israeli offensive has claimed the lives of at least 56,500 Gazans, most of whom are civilians in the war-battered territory according to the area's health ministry. Around 1,219 people, mostly civilians have also lost their lives in Israel. Israeli authorities have informed that they would refocus on its campaign against Gaza, that it launched in the aftermath of the October 7, 2023 attack, after the 12-day war with Iran that ended with a ceasefire on Tuesday.

India is well-positioned to emerge as centres of gravity, says Anand Mahindra; calls for speed & private investment amid 'Globalisation 2.0'
A rising tide of protectionism is reshaping global trade, but it is not the end of globalisation—rather its rebirth, said Mahindra Group Chairman Anand Mahindra in his address to shareholders in the company's 2024–25 annual report. Mahindra believes this transition offers India a unique opportunity to emerge as a new centre of gravity in what he called "Globalisation 2.0". "India, too, will face challenges," Mahindra said, noting the evolving nature of global trade marked by shifting alliances, reduced dependence on China-centric supply chains, and diminishing dominance of the US market. He said the world is moving toward a "multi-polar, regional, and domestically driven" model of globalisation, in which India is well-positioned to thrive. "Ironically, the US shift toward de-globalisation may lead to a new avatar of globalisation… I believe India is well-positioned to emerge as one of the new centres of gravity," Mahindra asserted. He underscored India's advantages, including its stable democracy, reputation as a reliable partner, and a strong, apolitical military. However, Mahindra cautioned that the future remains uncertain. "Whether it be a country or a business, the winners will be the ones who can successfully navigate uncertainty and ambiguity—the ones who are resilient." by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like One of the Most Successful Investors of All Time, Warren Buffett, Recommends: 5 Books for Turning... Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Click Here Undo Referring to geopolitical volatility, Mahindra acknowledged that India faces risks, especially with 'our provocative neighbour', Pakistan. "I am optimistic that we can demonstrate the limits to our tolerance without impeding our path to economic ascendance," he added, quoted PTI. He pointed out that US-China decoupling, while uncertain, is likely to continue, impacting trade flows. "International trade has already slowed amidst heightened uncertainty and dampened investor confidence," he said. Industries relying on global supply chains—such as electronics and consumer goods—are particularly vulnerable due to rising input costs, he warned. Mahindra stressed that India must rethink its trade dependencies and diversify sourcing. He predicted increased localisation, re-engineered supply chains, and the formation of new trade networks globally. India's trade deficit, sectoral vulnerabilities, and rising competition must be addressed strategically. "The challenge will be to minimise the adverse effects, akin to how Lord Shiva confined the poison to his throat without letting it spread," Mahindra said, invoking the mythological reference of Samudra Manthan. But he urged India not to merely mitigate risks but seize this shift as a growth opportunity. "Instead, we can proactively view this as an opportunity to enable some 'Amrit' to emerge," he said. Mahindra emphasised that private enterprise must lead this economic transformation with speed and agility. India could benefit from China's adversarial stance, which may open up new opportunities in supply chains. Mahindra said India must focus on innovation, R&D, and manufacturing to capture market share from global competitors. "Restrictions on China and high tariffs for other competing countries could open new markets for Indian goods," he said. To make the most of the moment, Mahindra warned, India must act swiftly. "Speed and agility are essential, as countries like the Philippines and Vietnam are already touting themselves as future manufacturing hubs. We must act swiftly and strategically to secure our share of the Amrit." Stay informed with the latest business news, updates on bank holidays and public holidays . AI Masterclass for Students. Act promptly on plaints about substandard seeds, fake fetilisers: DC to officers
Kalaburagi: Deputy commissioner of Kalaburagi, Fauzia Tarunam, has directed officials to take immediate action upon receiving complaints from farmers about substandard seeds and spurious fertilisers. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now She emphasised the importance of regular inspections at private and dealer shops. Speaking to TOI, she said she discussed in detail with agricultural officers and farmers regarding the approval of the Krishi Yantrikaran sub-campaign, micro-irrigation, sugar cane crop, and survey action plan under centrally sponsored schemes for 2025-26. With the arrival of monsoon, she stressed the need for seamless seed distribution across all taluks, urgent resolution of soybean seed issues, and ensuring an adequate fertiliser supply. The DC highlighted the importance of educating farmers about proper fertiliser application, crop diversification, and collaboration with local model farmers to promote crop rotation practices among small-scale agriculturists. Further, she said there should be swift processing of applications for agricultural equipment, including drip irrigation and sprinkler systems, provided under various govt schemes. The administration suggests creating and sharing short videos featuring successful farmers on social media platforms to inspire others, utilising these networks for promotional purposes. Given the early onset of the monsoon this year, authorities are focusing on raising awareness about crop surveys and insurance. Farmers will be encouraged to submit applications through their mobile devices to avoid confusion. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Technical challenges in crop surveys require prompt coordination with state-level officials for resolution. Villages missing from taluk maps need to be brought to state authorities' attention. The administration emphasises organising small group training sessions for farmers, focusing on crop selection based on soil types and providing essential agricultural information and awareness. "Banks, both co-operative and nationalised, have been advised to ensure a respectful approach while providing agricultural loans and handling crop insurance matters. If in case any farmer raise grievances regarding loan-related issues, bank officials will be held accountable for their actions," the DC said.
